Star Guardian Janna

First time I saw this skin in loading screen I thought Riot finally figured out what Janna mains actually want. Not another weather gimmick, not another staff reskin. A full magical girl transformation with VFX that feel clean in lane. Been running this as my default Janna skin since season 7 and honestly havent found a reason to switch off it for long.

What Star Guardian Janna actually brings to the table

The whole kit gets a VFX overhaul. Q tornado trades the usual wind column for this spiraling star energy that reads way better in teamfights. When you’re trying to peel for your ADC and there’s six abilities flying around, that bright teal-gold tornado is easier to track than base Janna’s transparent wind. Huge deal in Diamond where every Q placement matters.

W passive trails leave little star particles behind Janna as she moves. Subtle thing but it makes roaming feel satisfying. The shield on E wraps your carry in this golden star barrier. Crisp visual. Your ADC knows they got shielded without checking the buff bar.

R is where it gets good. Monsoon pushes out waves of star energy instead of wind. The healing circle has these constellation patterns on the ground. Played maybe 150 games with this skin last season and the R visual never got old. Not sure if it’s just me but the ult animation feels slightly more impactful than base, even though the hitbox is identical.

Recall animation has Janna floating up with her Star Guardian familiar, this little white fox spirit thing. Cute touch. Voice lines stay base though, no new VO on this one. Standard for an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP.

The Star Guardian Season 1 lineup and release context

Star Guardian Janna dropped October 5, 2016. Part of the first Star Guardian expansion that brought the skinline beyond just Lux. Janna, Jinx, Poppy, and Lulu all got the treatment in this wave. Kinda feels like Riot tested the waters with Star Guardian Lux and then went all in once they saw the sales numbers.

Esben Lash Rasmussen handled the splash art. Clean composition – Janna floating above the city with her familiar, staff trailing light. The color palette reads magical girl without going full pastel overload. (Random aside: I used this splash as my desktop wallpaper for like three months straight back in 2017.)

The Star Guardian Season 1 line set the template for everything that came after. Multiple seasons of Star Guardian skins now exist and the quality bar started here. Janna fits the magical protector archetype naturally since she’s already a support enchanter. The thematic match is stronger than some of the later Star Guardian picks where Riot had to stretch the concept to fit assassins and bruisers.

No chromas on this one. What you see is what you get. The teal and gold color scheme is locked in.

Worth the 1350 RP?

Real verdict: this is one of the best Janna skins for the price. 1350 RP gets you new VFX across the full kit, a solid recall animation, and a splash that still holds up years later. Shop has it permanently so no vault anxiety.

Competition in Janna’s skin catalog is real though. Forecast Janna exists at Legendary tier with full VO. Sacred Sword Janna came later with arguably cleaner particles. But for pure value at the Epic price point, Star Guardian holds its own. Been playing this in ranked for years and the visual clarity on abilities is genuinely useful, not just cosmetic fluff.

Could be wrong here but I think this skin ages better than most 2016 releases. The Star Guardian aesthetic doesn’t rely on realistic textures that look dated – it’s stylized enough to stay fresh. That ranked game last Thursday where my Kayn inted three kills pre-6, at least my Janna looked good peeling the backline with star tornados.

Skip it if you already own Sacred Sword or Cyber Halo and you’re not into the magical girl vibe. But if you main Janna and want one skin that covers all situations – solo queue, clash, ARAM – Star Guardian Janna is the pick. 1350 RP well spent for mains. Top pick for Janna one-tricks who want style without the Legendary price tag.
