Not gonna lie, when Shan Hai Scrolls Jhin dropped I wasnt expecting much. Another thematic Jhin skin in a sea of already solid options. But then I loaded into a ranked game around midnight on a Tuesday, and the first Q bounce lit up in that ink-wash style. Stopped me mid-cs for a second. The whole aesthetic just clicked in a way I didnt anticipate, and I’ve had it in my skin rotation ever since.

The ink brush fantasy on Jhin

So what actually changes here. The big draw is the VFX overhaul. Every ability gets this traditional East Asian ink painting treatment. Q bounces leave trails of black and gold ink splatter. W fires a long calligraphy stroke across the lane. E traps bloom into little ink flowers on the ground, which honestly look clean in the bot lane specifically. And the R? Curtain Call turns into this whole scroll-unfurling spectacle. Each shot paints across your screen with ink streaks. Gorgeous stuff.

The model itself puts Jhin in flowing robes with a porcelain-style mask. Think ancient scholar meets theatrical assassin. The shoulder pieces have scroll motifs and the gun transforms into something that looks half-brush, half-rifle. Kinda feels like Riot’s art team was watching too much wuxia and channeled it perfectly.

Recall animation is where the skin flexes hardest. Jhin paints a landscape on a floating scroll, then dramatically signs it. Very on-brand for the character. Been running this in Diamond for a couple seasons now and the recall still hasn’t gotten old. Base voice lines, no changes on the VO front, but Jhin’s base voice pack is already S-tier so no complaints there.

(Random aside: I screenshot the recall mid-paint and used it as my Discord profile banner for like three months.)

Shan Hai Scrolls and where this skin sits

Released January 28, 2021. Season 11 start, if memory serves. Lucas Parolin and West Studio handled the artwork, and they cooked on this one. The splash captures Jhin mid-performance against a mountainous scroll backdrop. Gold, black, ink wash tones everywhere.

The Shan Hai Scrolls line pulled in some interesting champions. Cho’Gath, Nautilus, Neeko all got skins in the set. Jhin fits the theme naturally though. The whole “art is perfection” angle maps perfectly onto a skinline built around mythological scroll paintings. Might be overthinking it but I think Shan Hai Scrolls Jhin is the best executed of the set by a comfortable margin.

8 chromas total for this one. Obsidian is my go-to, the dark tones make the ink VFX pop harder against the Rift. Sapphire gives it a cold calligraphy vibe that reads well in teamfights. Pearl exists if you want the clean white porcelain look but honestly it washes out the ink effects a bit. I’d skip Pearl unless you’re collecting them all. Still in the shop at 1350 RP, permanent availability.

How it compares in Jhin’s lineup

Real talk though. Jhin has maybe the best skin catalog of any ADC in the game. High Noon is the Legendary everyone defaults to. Blood Moon is the OG fan favorite. PROJECT has the tech aesthetic locked down. Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin exists for the prestige crowd. So where does Shan Hai Scrolls land?

For 1350 RP it punches way above its weight. The VFX quality rivals skins that cost more. I played maybe 40 games with it last season in a row, swapping between this and Dark Cosmic, and the Shan Hai Scrolls VFX felt cleaner on ability reads. Could be wrong here but the ink particles have better visual clarity than the cosmic effects during late-game teamfights when your backline is getting dove.

Worth 1350 if you main Jhin. Hard to argue against that price point when the VFX work is this thorough. Every ability feels distinct, the recall slaps, the model redesign commits fully to the theme. If you’re a Jhin one-trick with 600 games this season and you dont own this yet, fix that. Top pick for Jhin mains who want something that isn’t High Noon or Blood Moon. The only knock is that voice lines stay default, but again, Quinton Flynn’s Jhin VO carries itself. That ranked game where my Kayn inted 0/7 and I still felt stylish losing? This skin. That’s the vibe.
