Immortal Journey Zed

First game I played with Immortal Journey Zed was around 1 AM on a Wednesday, right after the patch dropped in August 2023. Locked it in for a Diamond ranked game and immediately noticed the model. Not gonna lie, the Eastern fantasy aesthetic on Zed hits different than most of his catalog. The armor has that celestial warrior vibe, gold trim over dark panels, flowing cloth elements that move with his animations. Felt clean from champion select onward.

How Immortal Journey changes Zed’s kit

This is a 1350 RP Epic tier skin so you’re getting new VFX across the board plus a fresh recall animation. Voice lines stay base, no new VO. The Q shurikens have this trailing golden energy that reads well in lane, especially when you’re poking through minions pre-6. Easier to track than some of his darker skins where the shurikens blend into the Rift.

W shadow placement got a visual overhaul. The shadow itself carries the Immortal Journey color scheme, so theres a distinct golden-teal shimmer when you swap positions. In teamfights this actually matters because your shadow is more visible to you without being distracting. Played maybe 40 games before I really appreciated that detail.

E slash has matching particles. Nothing groundbreaking but consistent with the theme. The real star is the R. Death Mark application leaves this celestial seal on the target, and the pop has a satisfying burst of golden energy. Killed their Jinx under tower last season with the mark pop and the VFX made it look cinematic. The recall animation features Zed meditating with floating blade fragments that reassemble. Solid work, fits the immortal warrior fantasy.

Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack animations feel slightly different too. Might just be the particle trails making them read faster. Either way the skin feels responsive in lane when you’re going for cs and short trades.

The Immortal Journey line and where this Zed fits

Immortal Journey released August 16, 2023. Pandart Studio nailed the splash art. Zed is front and center with dual blades, surrounded by celestial energy. The composition works, gives him that mythic swordsman energy that the skinline aims for.

The Immortal Journey set is one of Riot’s Eastern mythology lines. Zed fits naturally here because his whole ninja-shadow aesthetic translates well into the celestial warrior archetype. Better fit than some champions they’ve forced into the line honestly. (Random aside: the Immortal Journey splash arts as a collection might be some of the best themed set Riot has put out.)

8 chromas available for this skin. Amethyst is my personal pick, the purple tones lean into a darker mystical look that suits Zed’s personality. Sapphire runs a deep blue that reads almost like a night sky variant. Pearl goes light and clean but kinda feels like it loses the edge that makes Zed interesting. Shop has it permanently, 1350 RP, standard Epic pricing.

Worth the 1350 RP?

Zed has a massive skin catalog at this point. Galaxy Slayer exists. PROJECT exists. Championship exists. So where does Immortal Journey Zed land? I think it sits comfortably in the upper half. Not his absolute best skin but a strong pick if you’re tired of the techy or edgy aesthetics that dominate his collection.

Been running this as my secondary Zed skin since it dropped. Main skin for Zed this season when I dont want to use Galaxy Slayer. The VFX clarity is genuinely good for gameplay, which matters when you’re trying to track shadow positions in a chaotic teamfight around dragon pit. Real talk though, if you only buy one Zed skin, Galaxy Slayer or PROJECT probably edge it out on pure value. But if you main Zed and rotate skins, Immortal Journey earns its spot.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New particles on every ability, clean recall, strong splash, and 8 chromas if you want variety. The Immortal Journey theme gives Zed a different flavor than anything else in his wardrobe. Season 13 pickup that I keep coming back to. Skip it if you’re a casual Zed player with one skin already, but for one-tricks and Zed mains specifically this is an easy recommend. Not his flashiest option but maybe his most elegant one.
