Heartseeker Varus

Not gonna lie, when I first saw Heartseeker Varus load into a game I thought someone was trolling. Pink and white on an ADC known for corruption and void arrows? Took me a few games to come around. But after locking this in for maybe 30 ranked games last February around Valentine’s week, something clicked. The skin plays smoother than it looks in the splash, and the VFX carry it hard.

What Heartseeker Varus actually brings to the table

The Q is where this skin earns its keep. Piercing Arrow charges up with this glowing pink trail that reads surprisingly clean against the Rift. In teamfights where you’re poking from backline, you can actually track the projectile better than base Varus. Weird flex for a valentine skin but I’ll take it.

E drops heart-shaped particles on the ground. Kinda feels like Riot went all-in on the theme here. Hail of Arrows becomes this shower of little hearts, and the blight stacks proc with a subtle pink burst. Not as dramatic as some Epic skins but it works. The W passive indicators are tinted to match too.

Recall animation is the highlight for me. Varus pulls back a heart-tipped arrow and shoots it into the sky. Clean. Simple change – huge impact on the feel of backing after a won lane. Been running this skin specifically in bot lane and the recall just hits different after you secure a double kill.

(Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play with me when I use this skin because “it clashes with his Draven aesthetic.” Whatever that means.)

Voice lines stay base, which is expected at 1350 RP. No voice filter either. Honestly its fine because Varus already has solid VO from the base kit. You know what surprised me? The auto attack animations feel slightly different with the bow redesign, even though I think they’re technically the same. Could be wrong here but the draw animation on the bow reads lighter.

The Heartbreakers line and where this sits

Heartseeker Varus dropped February 13, 2015. Right before Valentine’s Day, obviously. Part of the Heartbreakers skinline alongside Heartseeker Vayne, Heartseeker Quinn, and a few others. Sixmorevodka Studio handled the artwork and they nailed the color palette on the splash. Varus looks regal without looking ridiculous, which is hard to pull off with a love-themed skin on a void-corrupted archer.

The Heartbreakers line is one of Riot’s annual holiday pushes. Some of them land, some dont. I think Heartseeker Varus lands better than most because the bow redesign actually looks like a weapon and not a toy. Compare that to some of the other Valentine skins where champions look like they walked out of a candy shop.

No chromas on this one. Bit of a missed opportunity since a red and gold variant would’ve been clean for Lunar New Year crossover vibes. But Riot never went back to add them.

This is a Legacy vault skin, so you cant just grab it whenever. Shows up during Valentine’s events or you need to roll it from Hextech crafting. Seen maybe 5 of these in my Diamond games all season, which honestly makes it feel more special when you do lock it in. That ranked game last Tuesday where I went 12/2 on Varus, I got two compliments on the skin in post-game. Rare for this elo.

Should you pick up Heartseeker Varus?

Real verdict: at 1350 RP this is a solid Epic tier skin that does exactly what it needs to. New VFX across abilities, clean recall, cohesive theme. It’s not the flashiest Varus skin out there. Cosmic Hunter and Project both have more going on visually. But Heartseeker has charm.

If you main Varus and want something different from the edgy void aesthetic, this is your pick. The pink VFX actually help with ability tracking in chaotic teamfights, which is a real gameplay plus when you’re trying to land Q poke through a messy engage. Been maining Varus with this skin on and off since season 10 I think, and it holds up years later.

Skip it if you only play Varus occasionally. Legacy availability means you’re waiting for the vault to open or getting lucky with chests. But for Varus one-tricks? Worth 1350 RP when it comes around. Top pick for Varus mains who want to stand out without going full Legendary price. The skin just works, no notes.
