First time I saw Dragon Trainer Lulu load into my game I thought it was a Legendary. Serious. The little dragon companion following her around, the fire-themed particles on every ability. Felt premium from the jump. Been running this skin on and off since season 3 and it still holds up better than skins released five years after it.
What Pix becomes in Dragon Trainer Lulu
The whole concept revolves around replacing Pix with a baby dragon. Thats the hook and it works. Pix normally floats around as this little fairy thing, but here you get a full dragon companion with its own idle animations and personality. The dragon sits on Lulu’s shoulder, flaps around during movement, and reacts to abilities in ways that feel alive.
Q sends the dragon forward breathing fire instead of the standard bolt. Visually reads clean in lane and the hitbox feels identical to base, which matters when you’re trying to poke in bot. W polymorph turns enemies into baby dragons instead of squirrels or cupcakes. Honestly not gonna lie, watching a fed Darius waddle around as a tiny dragon never gets old. E shield has these warm orange VFX wrapping around your ADC, and the dragon flies to them when you cast it on an ally. R knockup gets fire particles erupting from the ground.
No new voice lines though. Voice stays default, which is a minor letdown given how much the visual identity changes. Lulu’s base VO still fits the playful vibe so it doesnt clash, but I think new interactions with the dragon would have pushed this into Legendary territory easy.
(Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play ADC unless I lock in this specific skin. Says the dragon calms his ranked anxiety or something.)
The Dragon World line and where this skin fits
Dragon Trainer Lulu dropped November 13, 2012. Early days of League cosmetics. Part of the Dragon World skinline alongside Dragon Trainer Tristana and Dragon Trainer Heimerdinger. Kienan ‘Knockwurst’ Lafferty nailed the splash, the composition with Lulu holding her dragon companion in a training pose captures the fantasy perfectly.
The Dragon World skins share this Eragon-meets-Pixar energy. Cute but detailed. Lulu’s version leans harder into the cute side compared to Tristana’s which went full battle-dragon later. For 1350 RP the VFX package here competes with skins at the same price point from 2023 and 2024. Not many Epic skins from 2012 can say that.
5 chromas available if you want variety. Obsidian turns the dragon dark with these deep purple accents, gives the whole skin an edgier vibe that I personally prefer over base. Rose Quartz goes pastel pink and reads super clean against the Rift’s green. Ruby exists too but kinda feels like a downgrade from the warm orange base palette. Could be wrong here but I think Obsidian is the clear winner of the set.
Shop has it permanently at 1350 RP. No vault rotations, no loot exclusivity. Just buy it whenever.
Should you pick up Dragon Trainer Lulu?
Real verdict: if you play Lulu support in ranked at all, this is a top two skin for her. Maybe top one depending on how you feel about Star Guardian. Been spamming this in Diamond during a Lulu phase last February and the VFX clarity genuinely helped me track Pix position in chaotic teamfights. The dragon is bigger and more visible than base Pix, which sounds cosmetic but matters when you’re trying to peel for your backline and need to know exactly where your passive is sitting.
For Lulu one-tricks specifically, the dragon companion adds a layer of personality that base Lulu and most of her other skins just dont match. Cosmic Enchantress is fine. Pool Party is cute. But Dragon Trainer has this charm that keeps pulling me back after trying every other option in her catalog. Played maybe 40 games with it last month in a row before switching to Arcana for a bit, came right back.
1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX overhaul alone justifies the price, and the chromas give you options if the base orange isnt your thing. Skip it only if you already own Star Guardian and genuinely prefer that aesthetic. Otherwise this is the Lulu skin if you can only own one. Simple call.
