Debonair Malzahar

First time I saw Debonair Malzahar on PBE I thought Riot finally lost it. Malzahar in a suit. The Void prophet who melts your brain with space bugs, dressed up like he’s heading to a charity gala. Played maybe 40 games with it that first week in December 2021 and honestly? It works. Not sure if it’s just me but theres something about dropping a full combo on someone’s ADC while looking like you belong at a cocktail bar that just hits different.

The VFX sell it

Debonair Malzahar gets new VFX across the board and a fresh recall animation. No new voice lines, base VO stays. The Q opens up with these sharp green-tinted energy slashes that read way cleaner than default in teamfights. Been running this in Diamond for a few seasons now and the visibility on the Q silence zone is actually better than most Malzahar skins. Real talk though, the W voidlings are the star. Little suited-up minions. They look ridiculous and I love every single one of them.

E spreads this elegant green-gold particle effect instead of the usual purple corruption. Looks less like a disease and more like expensive cologne killing you slowly. The R suppression beam goes full emerald laser, thick and bright. In lane specifically, the ult VFX makes it super obvious to your jungler that you’re locking someone down for a gank, which is a small detail that actually matters in ranked.

Recall animation has Malzahar adjusting his suit and doing this smug pose. Short, clean, no filler. (Random aside: my duo partner mains Malzahar and refuses to use any other recall now, says it “matches his energy.”) The splash by Jennifer Wuestling captures the whole vibe perfectly. Green lighting, sharp suit, voidlings lurking in the background like bodyguards. She put in the work here.

Where Debonair fits in Malzahar’s lineup

The Debonair skinline dropped December 9, 2021. Late season 11 if I remember right. Debonair 2.0 was Riot’s second pass at the theme and Malzahar got grouped with Brand, Draven, Leona, and others. The line leans into this high-fashion villain aesthetic and Malzahar fits it naturally. A guy who floats around whispering about the Void while wearing designer clothes. Kinda feels like Riot designed the whole line around characters who’d be fun to put in suits.

9 chromas total for this one. Obsidian is my go-to, turns the whole palette dark and moody, perfect for the “I’m the final boss of this comp” energy. Tanzanite hits a deep purple that honestly looks closer to classic Malzahar colors but with the suit model. Cerulean Club is the exclusive one, lighter blue-white combo that reads clean against Summoner’s Rift but I dont see many people running it. The rest cover your standard spread but those three are the ones worth caring about.

This is an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP. Shop has it, permanent availability. For the price you get new VFX, new recall, new model, and the chromas if you want variety. Voice pack is base only but Vic Mignogna’s original performance carries well enough with the new visuals that it doesnt feel like a gap.

Should you buy Debonair Malzahar?

Straight talk: if you play Malzahar regularly, this is a strong pickup. Been daily driving it since around season 12 and it holds up. The VFX clarity alone is worth it over half his catalog. Battle Boss exists for the arcade fantasy, Hextech if you have the gemstones, but Debonair sits in this sweet spot where its fun without being over the top.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Not the absolute best Malzahar skin if you value thematic consistency with his lore, but for ranked? For spamming E-W combos in mid lane and watching suited voidlings chase down the enemy backline? Top pick for Malzahar mains. Last Tuesday around 2 AM I had a game where my voidlings took a turret plate by themselves while I was backing and even the enemy laner typed “nice suit” in all chat. That one game sold me on this skin permanently. Could be wrong here but I think this is the most personality any Malzahar skin has outside of Legendary territory.
