Crime City Nightmare Zyra

First game I played with Crime City Nightmare Zyra was around 1 AM on a Tuesday, ranked flex with a duo who kept telling me my plants looked “cursed.” Fair description. The entire skin leans hard into this eldritch noir vibe that honestly caught me off guard when I first previewed it in the shop. Been maining Zyra support on and off since season 8, and this one immediately felt different from her other options. Not the usual botanical horror. Something darker.

What Crime City Nightmare changes on Zyra

The model rework here is substantial for an Epic tier skin. Zyra’s plants transform into these writhing tentacle-like growths, somewhere between Lovecraftian and 1920s gangster nightmare fuel. Her Q spawns these dark purple-green thorns that read cleanly in lane, which matters more than people think. Had a game last week where my ADC said they couldnt tell my W seeds apart from the ground clutter on base Zyra. Not a problem with this skin.

New VFX across the board. Her E root trail has this smoky, shadowy particle effect that feels heavier than default. Q plants pulse with a dark energy that’s distinct from the Coven line. The recall animation is the standout though. Zyra gets pulled into this noir underworld portal thing. Hard to describe without seeing it. Worth locking in just for the recall spam between waves honestly.

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Kinda feels like Riot could have added a voice filter at minimum for this thematic, but at 1350 RP I’m not gonna complain too hard. The base Karen Strassman performance still holds up. (Random aside: her voice work on Zyra is genuinely underrated compared to what people praise in other champs.) The VFX do enough heavy lifting that you dont notice the missing filter after a few games.

One thing that surprised me in teamfights specifically. The ult. Crime City Nightmare Zyra’s R has this massive dark eruption that reads way better than base in chaotic 5v5s around dragon pit. Played maybe 30 games with it in Diamond and the visual clarity on the knockup zone is cleaner than Coven’s, which says something.

Crime City Nightmare dropped August 26, 2021. Late summer, right in the middle of season 11. Svetlana Tigai and West Studio handled the artwork, and they cooked on this one. The splash captures the noir-horror crossover perfectly. Zyra in a 1920s outfit with eldritch tendrils creeping from behind her. It works.

The Crime City Nightmare line was one of those community-voted thematics that actually delivered. Zyra fits the concept naturally because her plant mechanic translates well into tentacle horror. Better than Darius or Akali in the same line if you ask me. Might be overthinking it but the Nightmare skins feel like they were designed around Zyra first and everyone else second.

9 chromas total. Underground is the sleeper pick, deep dark purple-black combo that leans full villain. Amethyst runs a similar vibe but brighter, more mystical. Rose Quartz is the one I see most in my games, the pink tones contrast nicely against the Rift. Not gonna list every single one but Peridot exists if you want the green plant mage fantasy back.

Is Crime City Nightmare Zyra worth 1350 RP?

Real verdict: this sits comfortably in Zyra’s top three skins. Coven is the main competition and that’s a tighter race than people give it credit for. Crime City Nightmare has better plant clarity in lane. Coven has the prestige variant and slightly more cohesive color palette. Different vibes entirely.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX, new recall, strong model rework, and 9 chromas if you want variety. Shop has it, permanent availability. Been running this as my go-to Zyra skin since about halfway through season 12 and I keep coming back even after picking up the Crystal Rose and Street Demons options. The noir horror aesthetic just hits different in a poke lane where you’re spamming Q plants from behind your ADC. Real talk though, if you only play Zyra occasionally, Coven might be the safer investment. But for Zyra mains? This is the skin. Top pick for Zyra mains who want something with edge.
