Breakout True Damage Ekko

First time I saw Breakout True Damage Ekko load into a game, I thought someone was running a custom skin. The colors hit different from the original True Damage version. Not sure if it’s just me but the whole aesthetic feels like Riot took the music theme and cranked it up a few notches, gave Ekko this raw street-art energy that the 2019 version only hinted at. Played maybe 30 games with it the first week it dropped and I kept noticing small details I missed before.

VFX and recall on Breakout True Damage Ekko

So this is a Mythic skin, meaning you’re not just buying it off the shop shelf for RP. Special pricing, Mythic Essence or event-gated. What you get for that investment is a full VFX overhaul and a new recall animation. No new voice lines though. Voice stays default, which honestly feels like a missed opportunity for a skin at this tier.

The Q throw has this neon trail that cuts through the Rift cleanly. In teamfights where everything is chaos, you can actually track your Q return better than on base Ekko. Thats a genuine gameplay clarity upgrade, not just cosmetic. The W zone drops with these musical-wave ripples that spread outward, and when the stun procs on two or three people in a late-game teamfight, the visual payoff is satisfying.

E dash leaves these streaking light particles. Short blink, clean effect. Nothing overdone. The R rewind is where the skin really earns its keep. The afterimage trail has this glitchy, almost holographic quality to it. Been running this in Diamond ranked and every time I ult back into a fight after baiting a dive, the animation just looks crisp. Could be wrong here but I think the R particles are slightly more visible than original True Damage, which helps your team read your plays better.

Recall animation is themed around the music production angle. Ekko messes with some kind of beat pad or mixing board. Quick and stylish. (Random aside: I’ve watched the recall loop like 15 times trying to figure out if the sounds are actually musical notes or just generic SFX.)

True Damage line and where Breakout fits

The True Damage skinline launched back in 2019 with that Worlds performance. Yasuo, Qiyana, Senna, Akali, Ekko. One of Riot’s bigger crossover moments. Breakout True Damage Ekko dropped November 8, 2023, years after the original set. It’s basically a prestige-adjacent variant that reimagines Ekko’s look within the same universe.

Herbie Wang and Kudos Productions handled the splash art. They cooked. The composition puts Ekko center frame with this explosive energy radiating outward, very much in line with the music-meets-street-culture vibe that True Damage always had. The color palette leans harder into golds and blacks compared to the original’s blue-purple scheme.

No chromas on this one. Zero. Which makes sense for a Mythic tier skin. Riot rarely attaches chroma packs to Mythic releases. You get the one version and that’s it.

Available through Mythic Essence rotation. So you’re either sitting on enough ME from event passes or you been grinding chests all season. Last Tuesday I checked the shop rotation and it was still accessible, but these things cycle. Worth locking in if you see it and you’re an Ekko main.

How it stacks against other Ekko skins

Ekko has a solid skin lineup at this point. PROJECT Ekko is the safe pick. Pulsefire is flashy. Star Guardian is… polarizing, lets leave it at that. Arcane Firelight Ekko carries the nostalgia factor hard for anyone who watched the show.

Breakout True Damage sits in a weird spot. It’s not a Legendary with new VO and animations. It’s a Mythic with strong VFX and a recall. Kinda feels like you’re paying the Mythic tax for exclusivity more than raw content. That said, the VFX quality is legitimately above most Epic skins. The particles have this sharpness to it that you notice in lane, especially when you’re poking with Q or looking for E engages pre-6.

Been maining Ekko with this skin since around season 13 end. In my Diamond games specifically, I’ve gotten compliments on the skin maybe four or five times. Not a common sight on the Rift. Seen maybe two other people running it all of last split. That exclusivity factor matters if you care about standing out in champ select.

Should you grab Breakout True Damage Ekko?

Real verdict: if you one-trick Ekko or he’s in your top three jungle or mid picks, this skin is worth the Mythic Essence. The VFX carry it. Base voice lines hold it back from being perfect, and no chromas means what you see is what you get. But the visual package is clean, the recall is fun, and the True Damage aesthetic still holds up years after the original launch.

If you’re not an Ekko main, honestly skip it. Save your ME for a champion you actually spam in ranked. The skin doesnt reinvent the champion fantasy the way God Fist Lee Sin or Spirit Blossom Ahri does for their respective mains. It’s a strong cosmetic upgrade with premium exclusivity. For Ekko players who want something rare and polished, top pick. For everyone else, your Mythic Essence is better spent elsewhere. Fair price for the package if you’re already committed to the champion.
