Battle Academia Leona

First game I played with Battle Academia Leona I landed a flash E onto their Jinx under tower and my ADC typed “anime protagonist moment” in chat. Honestly not gonna lie, thats exactly the vibe this skin gives off. Leona in a school uniform with golden armor plating, wielding what looks like a ceremonial blade instead of her usual sword and shield. The whole Battle Academia line leans hard into the shonen aesthetic and Leona fits it better than most of the roster.

VFX and what actually changes

For an Epic at 1350 RP, the VFX work here is solid. Her Q proc lights up with this bright golden burst that reads cleanly in teamfights. W shield gets these swirling academy crest particles around her, which I think looks better than base Leona’s orange glow. The E skillshot has a sharper, more defined trail. Easier to track.

Her R is the highlight. Solar Flare drops with academy insignia patterns on the ground and the stun zone has this crisp golden edge to it. Been running this in Diamond support games and the ult VFX genuinely help my team see the zone faster during chaotic dragon pit fights. Could be wrong here but I feel like the visual clarity on the stun vs slow ring is slightly better than default.

New recall animation too. Leona does this whole dramatic pose with her blade, very anime graduation ceremony energy. Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for the tier. (Random aside: the recall animation loops perfectly if you cancel it at like 4 seconds and restart, discovered that at 1 AM last week spamming it in practice tool.)

The Battle Academia line and release context

Battle Academia dropped March 18, 2021. Season 11. West Studio handled the artwork and they captured the school setting well. The splash shows Leona in full academy gear with that confident stance, golden light radiating behind her. Clean composition.

The Battle Academia skinline is one of Riot’s more popular thematic sets. Ezreal, Lux, Caitlyn, Garen, Yone all got skins in this line across different waves. Leona joining the roster made sense since she already has that “paladin leader” archetype that translates naturally into class president energy. Been maining Leona with this skin since it dropped and the Battle Academia fantasy just works for her kit. Engage support who dives the backline with golden anime VFX. Perfect match.

8 chromas total. Obsidian is my go-to because the dark armor with gold accents looks clean against the Rift, gives her this fallen knight vibe that I dig. Rose Quartz shifts everything pink and honestly its cool for the meme value in norms. Sapphire runs a deep blue that reads almost like a rival school uniform. Rest are fine but those three carry the set.

Should you buy Battle Academia Leona?

Real verdict: if you play Leona support regularly, this sits comfortably in her top three skins. Solar Eclipse and Lunar Eclipse Leona exist as Legendaries with more features, sure. But for 1350 RP Battle Academia Leona delivers strong VFX, a good recall, and a thematic that doesn’t overlap with her other options. Shop has it, permanent availability.

Kinda feels like this skin gets overlooked because Leona has so many choices now. DWG Leona came out the same year, High Noon followed later. But Battle Academia still holds up. The anime aesthetic is distinct enough that it fills a different slot in your collection. I played maybe 150 games on this skin across season 11 and 12 before rotating to High Noon, and I still swap back when I’m feeling the shonen energy. Worth 1350 if you main Leona. Skip it if you already own both Eclipse skins and dont need a third Leona option, but for everyone else this is a strong pickup. Top pick for Leona mains who want something lighter than her darker themed skins.
