Arcana Zilean

First time I saw Arcana Zilean in a loading screen I honestly thought someone was playing a different champion. The silhouette reads completely different from base Zilean, and thats saying something for a champ who hasnt exactly been drowning in cosmetic love over the years. Been running this as my go-to Zilean skin since it dropped and I keep coming back to it even after trying the other options in his lineup.

What Arcana Zilean actually brings to the table

The tarot card fantasy works surprisingly well on Zilean. His whole time manipulation kit already has that mystical fortune-teller energy, so wrapping him in Arcana robes feels natural. The model swap is clean. Rich golds and deep purples replace the tired blue-and-gold base look, and the clock motifs get reworked into something that reads more like arcane sigils than steampunk gears.

Not gonna lie, the Q bombs landing on the ground look satisfying in this skin. The bomb particles carry the Arcana color palette, purples and golds swirling together. Voice lines stay base, no VO refresh, which is a miss for a champ who could use some updated quips. But for an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, the visual package holds up.

E speed-up and slow-down have subtle particle shifts that feel distinct from base. Nothing dramatic but enough that you notice it mid-lane. Could be wrong here but the ult particles might read slightly cleaner too, the revive circle has that Arcana card-flip aesthetic going on. Played maybe 40 games with this skin in Diamond last season and the ability clarity never caused issues for me or my ADC.

The Arcana line and where Zilean fits

Arcana is one of Riot’s better thematic lines. The whole tarot card concept gives each champion a distinct identity within the set. Zilean slots in as the time-keeper archetype, which, yeah, obvious pick. But obvious picks work when the execution is there.

8 chromas total for Arcana Zilean. Tanzanite is my personal favorite, the deep purple leans into the mystical vibe harder than base does. Obsidian goes full dark mode which looks clean against the Rift, especially in river fights around dragon. Not every chroma justifies itself but those two earn their spot in the rotation. (Random aside: I keep Tanzanite for ranked and Obsidian for normals, no idea why I started doing that but now its a habit.)

Shop has it permanently. Standard 1350 RP pricing for this Epic skin. Considering Zilean’s skin catalog is pretty thin, you dont have a ton of competition here. Blood Moon Zilean exists, Sugar Rush exists, Winterblessed exists. Real talk though, Arcana probably has the most cohesive theme-to-champion match of the bunch.

Playing Zilean with this skin in ranked

Something about a good skin makes you play better. Placebo, sure. But I had a three-game win streak last Wednesday night around midnight spamming Arcana Zilean support in Diamond, landing double bomb stuns I had no business hitting. The Q animation just feels right. Smooth release, clean landing indicator.

Zilean mains already know the champ is underrated in solo queue. Peel for your ADC, speed-up your jungler for ganking, ult whoever dives the backline. The kit does work in any comp. This skin doesnt change gameplay obviously but the visual clarity on your E is something I appreciate in chaotic teamfights. Season 13 or 14, dont remember exactly, I climbed from D4 to D2 with Zilean as my pocket support pick and Arcana was the skin the entire time.

One small complaint: the recall animation isnt new. For 1350 RP in 2024 you’d expect at least a custom recall. Kinda feels like they cut a corner there. The base recall on this model looks fine but its clearly base Zilean’s animation wearing a new outfit.

Should you buy it?

Verdict time. If you play Zilean at all, Arcana is probably the skin. His catalog is small enough that the competition is thin, and this Epic delivers on the visual front even without new VO or a custom recall. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Tanzanite and Obsidian chromas push it further if you want variety.

Skip this only if you’re completely locked into Blood Moon or Winterblessed already. For everyone else, especially Zilean mains climbing in ranked, Arcana Zilean is the one to lock in. Top pick for Zilean mains, no question. Maybe just my experience but this skin makes the champ feel less like a relic from season 1 and more like he belongs in modern League.
