First time I saw Academy Vladimir in a game was during some late-season 5 climbing session, probably around 2 AM when the server was full of one-tricks spamming their best champs. Loaded into a mid lane matchup and the enemy Vlad just had this clean school-uniform look that I hadn’t registered existed. Felt weird seeing a blood mage dressed like a prep school student. Honestly not gonna lie, it kind of works.
What changes with Academy Vladimir
This is a Standard skin at 750 RP, so don’t go in expecting new animations or a voice filter. Academy Vladimir swaps the classic dark crimson robes for a navy blue school blazer, white shirt, and that signature red tie. The color palette shifts hard from gothic horror to structured academia. Clean look.
No new VFX, same base voice lines from Kevin M. Connolly, no new recall animation. Vladimir’s Q still looks like Q, his W pool stays the same deep red, and the R Hemoplague effect is unchanged. For a Standard skin thats the deal you’re making – a costume swap, nothing else. The splash art by Sixmorevodka Studio is actually one of the better parts of this skin. Vladimir posed with a book, looking like he belongs running some cursed honor society instead of draining backline ADCs. Banger splash.
What I’ll say is the outfit reads well in-game at a distance. The navy blue contrasts against the Rift better than the base dark red does, weirdly. In teamfights with heavy visual noise, spotting the Academy skin is slightly easier. Might just be my experience but I’ve noticed the cleaner silhouette helps with positioning awareness in mid lane scrums. Could be coping but I believe it.
Academy skinline and release
Academy Vladimir dropped August 26, 2015. Season 5, patch cycle moving fast, Riot was pushing the Academy line across several champions at once. Vladimir was part of that initial wave alongside Ahri, Darius, and others. (sidebar: if you’re into the Academy skinline, Darius might have the best execution of the set, which makes sense since the commanding general type fits an authority figure at school.)
Sixmorevodka Studio handled the artwork. The composition is clean – Vlad looking genuinely menacing holding a book, like the kind of student you avoid sitting next to during finals. The Academy concept works for Vladimir because he’s canonically ancient and obsessive about knowledge. Fitting him into an academic setting adds a layer of irony that I think the splash captures well.
No chromas on this one, which honestly isn’t a loss for this theme. Permanent shop, always available.
Is Academy Vladimir worth it
Real verdict: if you main Vladimir and want something that shifts the aesthetic completely, from horror to prep school menace, this delivers. 750 RP feels fair for what you get. The in-game silhouette reads distinctly different from base, and it holds up through the lane phase and late-game teamfights. Been running this on and off since I picked up Vlad for a ranked grind in season 7 and it never feels like a downgrade.
If you need new VFX or voice lines, skip it and save for Nightbringer or Cosmic Devourer Vladimir. Those are the Legendary options that go all in. But as a Standard skin that totally refreshes the champion’s vibe, Academy Vladimir earns its spot. Worth it.
