Nocturne Skins

10 skins available

Nocturne is one of those champions where the skin catalog tells you exactly how Riot's art team evolved over a decade. Been playing him on and off since season 3, mostly as a jungle pick when my team needs hard engage and the enemy ADC thinks they're safe farming bot. Ten skins deep now. Some of them look like they crawled out of 2011 and never came back. Others hit so hard they changed how I feel about locking in the champion. Not gonna lie, the quality gap between his worst and best skin is massive.

Nocturne's Full Skin Collection

Ten skins spanning 2011 to 2024. That's thirteen years of Nocturne cosmetics and you can literally watch Riot's art pipeline level up in real time. The early stuff is rough. Frozen Terror Nocturne dropped in 2011 and it shows. Basic recolor energy. Void Nocturne, Ravager Nocturne, same era, same vibe. They were fine for the time but playing them now in my Diamond games feels like showing up to lane with a flip phone.

The tier split tells an interesting story. Five Standard skins, three Epics, one Legendary, one Mythic. Heavy on the budget end which makes sense for a champion who's been around since nearly the beginning. Riot was pumping out 520 and 750 RP skins like crazy back in seasons 1 through 3. Quantity over quality. Different era entirely.

Could be wrong here but I think Nocturne got kind of neglected in the middle years. There's a big gap where he wasnt getting much love from the skin team. Then the Epics started rolling in and suddenly he's getting actual VFX work, new particles on his Q trail, different colored Darkness effects. Night and day difference. Literally.

The collection peaked somewhere around Old God and hasnt really slowed down since. Three Epics in the back half of the catalog compared to zero in the first half. Riot figured out that Nocturne's kit translates well to thematic skins because his Q, W, E, and especially R give artists a lot to work with. That Paranoia ult is basically a canvas. When everything goes dark and then you dive the backline, the skin VFX matter more than almost any other champion because that's the one moment everyone on the enemy team is staring at their screen.

Best Skins for Nocturne

Eternum Nocturne. Full stop. This Legendary dropped at 1820 RP and it's still the benchmark for what a Nocturne skin should feel like. New voice processing that makes him sound like a corrupted machine. The Q trail becomes this digital red streak across the ground. W shield has that tech barrier effect. E tether looks like you're downloading someone's soul. And the R? When Paranoia hits and you hear that distorted Eternum scream instead of the base "DARKNESS" call, it hits different. Been spamming this in ranked since maybe season 5 and the skin still doesnt feel dated. (Random aside: the splash art on this one has been my Discord avatar for two years straight.)

Hextech Nocturne is the flex pick. Mythic tier, special currency only, you cant just buy it. Need to craft it through Hextech or get lucky with drops. The blue crystalline aesthetic works surprisingly well on a shadow demon. Feels like Riot asked "what if Nocturne was made of sapphire" and just committed. Clean particles on every ability. Might be overthinking it but the Hextech skins tend to age better than most because the crystal theme is timeless.

Old God Nocturne. This is where Riot proved Nocturne fits into the Elderwood and Coven universe. Epic tier at 1350 RP. The design leans into cosmic horror, ancient deity energy. His Q leaves this organic trail that looks like corrupted vines or tentacles spreading across the ground. The ult darkness effect has a green tint that feels more eldritch than just "scary shadow." Took this into ranked for maybe 30 games last season and the recall animation alone is worth the price. He channels this dark ritual energy. Sick stuff.

Broken Covenant Nocturne surprised me. Another 1350 Epic. The Coven adjacent theme with the stained glass and dark religious imagery fits Nocturne better than I expected. The blade arms get this ornate gothic treatment. VFX have a purple and gold color scheme thats unique in his catalog. Not the flashiest but it reads clean in teamfights which matters when you're diving through five people.

Empyrean Nocturne rounds out the modern trio. His newest skin from 2024. The Empyrean line has that digital void aesthetic, neon accents on dark base. Feels like a natural fit for a nightmare entity. Q trail glows with that signature Empyrean energy. Solid Epic, nothing groundbreaking, but a good modern option if the older stuff feels too dated for you.

Skinlines and Themes That Fit Nocturne

Here's where it gets interesting. Nocturne appears in a bunch of skinlines and some of them make way more sense than others. The Eternum line is basically his home. That techno-horror fantasy was built for champions like Nocturne and Rek'Sai. Kinda feels like the entire skinline exists because someone at Riot looked at Nocturne's silhouette and thought "what if robot nightmare."

The Elderwood and Coven adjacent skins work because Nocturne is already a dark entity. Old God Nocturne slots into that mythology perfectly. Ancient evil lurking in the forest. Broken Covenant takes the religious horror angle. Both leverage what makes Nocturne scary in the first place, they just redirect the fear into different thematic lanes.

Glacial is where Frozen Terror lives. Early skinline, minimal changes. Curse of the Void gave us Void Nocturne. Silver Age is Ravager. Trick-or-Treat is Haunting Nocturne, his Halloween skin. These are all legacy era themes where the skinline was basically just a color swap with a lore blurb. Not gonna lie, none of these older skinlines add much to Nocturne's fantasy. They're historical artifacts at this point.

The Omen of the Dark line is Cursed Revenant Nocturne. Dark theme for a dark champion. Checks out but doesn't push any boundaries. Fair enough for the price point though. Real talk though, Nocturne benefits most from skinlines that lean into either technology or ancient horror. The goofy or lighthearted themes dont land on him the way they do on champions like Nunu or Teemo. He needs that edge.

Budget vs Premium Picks

The budget end of Nocturne's catalog is rough. Five Standard skins ranging from 520 to 975 RP and honestly none of them compete with modern Epics. Haunting Nocturne is probably the best of the cheap options. The Halloween theme at least gives him a distinct color palette and some personality. But you're still looking at 2012 era particles and model work.

If you can only afford one skin, Old God Nocturne at 1350 RP is the value play. Modern VFX, great thematic fit, clean in-game read. It punches at Legendary weight for Epic price. Played maybe 40 games with it last split and never felt like I was missing out on the Eternum experience.

That said, if you main Nocturne and you're climbing with him consistently, Eternum at 1820 is worth saving for. The new VO alone changes the gameplay experience. Different audio cues on abilities, different feel entirely. Been daily driving it in Diamond for years and it still holds up against skins released a decade later. The gap between a Standard Nocturne skin and Eternum is one of the biggest quality jumps in the entire game. (Sidebar for jungle mains specifically: the Paranoia sound effect on Eternum actually tilts people harder in my experience, placebo or not.)

Hextech is the prestige option but you cant just buy it so its hard to recommend as a practical purchase. If you roll it from a chest, congrats. Otherwise dont stress about it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Nocturne have?

Nocturne has 10 skins total as of 2024. Five Standard tier, three Epic, one Legendary, one Mythic. Decent catalog for a champion who's been around since 2011. Not the biggest roster but there's enough variety to find something that fits your style. The quality ramp from oldest to newest is massive though.

What is the best Nocturne skin?

Eternum Nocturne. Not close. The Legendary treatment gives him new VO, completely overhauled VFX on every ability, and one of the best Paranoia effects in the game. Been my go-to Nocturne skin for years. If budget matters, Old God at 1350 RP is the best value pick. Both are strong choices depending on what you want to spend.

What is the cheapest Nocturne skin?

Frozen Terror Nocturne and Void Nocturne sit at 520 RP. Cheapest options in his catalog. Honestly they're both season 1 era recolors with minimal changes from the base model. You get what you pay for. If you're spending any RP on Nocturne I'd save up for at least the 1350 tier. Big difference.

Does Nocturne have a Legendary skin?

Yeah, Eternum Nocturne is his one Legendary at 1820 RP. New voice over, completely new VFX and SFX on all abilities. The Paranoia ult sounds terrifying with the Eternum filter. Dropped years ago but still holds up. Think its one of the better aging Legendaries in the game honestly.

What skinlines is Nocturne in?

Nocturne shows up in Glacial, Curse of the Void, Silver Age, Trick-or-Treat, Eternum, Omen of the Dark, Elderwood, and Coven adjacent lines. Pretty wide spread. The standouts are Eternum for the tech-horror vibe and the Elderwood/Coven skins for that ancient dark fantasy angle. Rest are mostly legacy era themes.

Does Nocturne have chromas?

Some of his newer Epics come with chroma options. Old God, Broken Covenant, and Empyrean all have chroma sets available. The older Standard skins don't have chromas at all. If you care about color variety, stick with the Epic tier skins. More customization options across the board there.

When was Nocturne's last skin released?

Empyrean Nocturne in 2024. His most recent addition. Epic tier at 1350 RP with the digital void aesthetic that the Empyrean line is known for. Before that he got Broken Covenant which wasnt too far back either. Riot's been feeding Nocturne mains more consistently in the last few years compared to that dry spell in the middle.

Is Nocturne worth buying skins for?

If you play him regularly in jungle, absolutely. His ult is one of the most visually impactful abilities in the game and skins change how Paranoia looks and sounds dramatically. Eternum alone justifies investing in Nocturne cosmetics. Even the 1350 Epics feel like meaningful upgrades over base. Not a champion where skins feel wasted.
