First Nami skin I ever used. Picked it up back in season 3 when I was still figuring out support and honestly it stuck with me longer than most skins in my collection. Koi Nami dropped December 7, 2012, right around when Nami herself launched, and the koi fish fantasy just hits. Not gonna lie, there’s something about the orange and white color palette that reads cleaner than her base model in lane. Simple skin. Good skin.

What Koi Nami actually changes

This is a Standard tier skin at 975 RP so temper expectations. You get a full model swap with the koi-inspired color scheme, new VFX on abilities, and a new recall animation. Voice lines stay base. No new VO here.

The W bounce has this subtle goldfish shimmer to it that I noticed around 2 AM one ranked session last week. Her Q bubble carries the koi palette too, the teal and orange mixing mid-air before it lands. Could be wrong here but I think the Aqua Prison reads slightly different in teamfights compared to base Nami, the warm colors pop against the Rift’s blue-green tones. Makes it easier for your ADC to follow up on engages.

Her ult is where the skin earns its price. Tidal Wave rolls through with koi fish patterns visible in the wave texture. Been playing Nami on and off for years and thats still one of the cleaner ult visuals across her cheaper skins. The recall animation shows her interacting with koi fish, short and sweet. (Random aside: I use this recall to BM after winning a 2v2 in bot lane and it never gets old.)

No transforming effects, no voice filter. Straightforward model-plus-VFX package. For 975 RP in 2012 this was solid value. Still is, honestly.

The Legacy line and release context

Koi Nami sits in the Legacy skinline. Michelle Hoefener nailed the splash, the composition with Nami surrounded by koi in that pond setting has this serene quality most League splashes dont bother with. Released December 2012, pre-season 3 era. Ancient by League standards.

Three chromas available if you want variety. Sunbeam shifts the palette warmer, almost golden. Twilight goes purple and I think it actually competes with the base version for best look. Smoke is the muted one, teal-gray vibe, feels like a different skin entirely in my Diamond games.

Legacy skinline means this sits in the shop permanently. Shop has it whenever you want. No vault rotation, no loot-only nonsense. Might be overthinking it but for a 2012 skin to still hold up visually against newer 975 RP releases says something about the original design work.

Should you buy Koi Nami?

Real verdict: if you play Nami at all, Koi is the budget pick that punches above its weight. 975 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX refresh keeps it from looking dated, the chromas add replay value, and the koi aesthetic is unique across her entire skin catalog.

Played this into maybe 40 ranked games last month while climbing through Diamond and it held up fine. Skip it if you already own Cosmic Destiny or Splendid Staff since those offer more for the price jump. But for Nami mains building a collection or support players who want something clean without dropping Legendary money, Koi Nami is the move. Been running this in bot lane specifically when I want to feel chill about the game. Best budget Nami skin, no contest.
