Withered Rose Talon

First game I played with Withered Rose Talon was a late-night ranked session, maybe 1 AM on a Wednesday. Locked him in, loaded the splash, and honestly wasnt expecting much from a Valentine’s event skin on an assassin. But the dark romantic aesthetic hit different on Talon specifically. Not sure if it’s just me but something about a blade assassin draped in wilted roses and thorns just works. Been running this as my main Talon skin since season 11 and I keep coming back to it over Enduring Sword.

Visual overhaul and ability VFX

So the model itself goes full gothic prince. Talon gets this dark formal outfit with rose motifs woven into the fabric, thorned blade, and the cape has this deep crimson lining that catches light during his E wall hop. Clean design. The color palette leans into blacks and deep reds with subtle purple accents, which reads well against the Rift’s greens.

The VFX are where this Epic tier skin earns its keep. His Q proc leaves rose petals on impact, and the W rake sends out these thorn-covered blades that trail dark particles on the return. Looks fantastic in lane when you’re poking with W through the wave. The R is the highlight though. Shadow Assault pops with this burst of withered rose petals spiraling outward, and the stealth trail has this faint dark mist. In a teamfight when you’re diving the backline, the ult VFX actually help sell the fantasy of this phantom rose assassin materializing behind the ADC.

Recall animation is new too. Talon conjures a rose, examines it, and crushes it. Short and clean. No new voice lines, kept the base VO. Travis Willingham’s delivery still works fine with the skin’s vibe so I dont mind. (Random aside: Talon might have the most underrated base voice in the game, the guy sounds genuinely menacing.)

One thing I noticed after maybe 30 games: the W return animation is slightly easier to track visually than base Talon’s. Could be wrong here but the petal trail makes the boomerang path more readable. For your opponents that might be a slight disadvantage, but in my Diamond games nobody’s dodging Talon W on reaction anyway.

The Withered Rose line and release context

Withered Rose dropped February 11, 2021. Right in the Valentine’s patch window. West Studio handled the splash, and they captured this brooding elegance that fits Talon’s character perfectly. The Withered Rose skinline is Riot’s darker take on romance themes. Syndra and Elise got skins in the same line. Talon fits naturally into the Withered Rose set because his entire kit revolves around getting close and personal, which maps onto the dark romance motif better than most champions would.

The skinline sits in an interesting spot. Crystal Rose was the lighter counterpart released alongside it. Withered Rose leans into the “beauty corrupted” angle. For Talon mains specifically, it filled a gap because most of his skins before this were either edgelord (Blood Moon) or historical fantasy (Enduring Sword, Dragonblade). This was the first one that gave him actual personality beyond “guy with blade.”

8 chromas total. Obsidian is my go-to, the dark palette makes the rose elements pop harder against the black base. Sapphire hits a completely different vibe, almost icy, which is weird for a rose skin but I kinda dig it. Pearl goes white and gold, feels like it belongs in the Crystal Rose line instead. The rest are solid but those three stand out. Still in the shop at 1350 RP, permanent availability.

Where it ranks for Talon mains

Real verdict: Withered Rose Talon is a strong mid-tier pick in his skin catalog. At 1350 RP it delivers exactly what an Epic should. New particles, new model, solid recall. Doesn’t reinvent the champion but gives him a distinct identity that his older skins lack.

Kinda feels like it competes most directly with Enduring Sword for the “elegant assassin” slot. Enduring Sword has the sword VFX going for it but Withered Rose has better particle work overall. Blood Moon is the other popular choice and honestly I think Withered Rose edges it out on model quality alone. High Noon came later and is probably the strongest competitor now, but that’s a different aesthetic entirely.

If you’re a Talon one-trick climbing through ranked, this skin is worth the 1350 RP. The VFX are clean without being distracting, the model reads well in lane and in teamfights, and the chromas give you options. Been spamming this in Diamond for seasons now and it still feels fresh. Not his absolute best skin anymore since High Noon exists, but top three for sure. Might be overthinking it but I think the W particles on this skin are the smoothest of any Talon cosmetic. 1350 feels fair for what you get. Lock it in if you play Talon with any regularity, season 11 purchase I still dont regret.
