Star Guardian Xayah

First time I saw Star Guardian Xayah load into my game I genuinely thought Riot dropped a different champion. Not even exaggerating. The whole corrupted fallen guardian angle hit different than anything else in Xayah’s catalog, and I remember sitting in the loading screen during a Diamond promo thinking “okay this skin goes hard.” That was back in September 2019 and honestly my opinion hasnt changed much since.

The corrupted guardian fantasy and what it changes

This is a full Legendary at 1820 RP and it earns every point. New model, new VFX on every ability, new voice lines, new recall animation. The whole package. Xayah gets this dark purple and magenta color scheme with corrupted star energy flowing through her feathers. Her Q sends out these jagged violet feather blades that leave trails on the ground, way more visible than base. Feels cleaner to track your feather positions in a teamfight which is actually a gameplay clarity win for Xayah mains.

W activation wraps her in this pulsing dark aura. Subtle but noticeable. The attack speed buff feels more impactful visually, like you can see the corruption accelerating her autos. E recall is where it gets wild though. Bladecaller yanks those corrupted feathers back and the root proc has this satisfying dark starburst effect. Trapped their Jinx in dragon pit last week with a five-feather recall and the VFX explosion was chef’s kiss.

Her R is the showpiece. Xayah leaps up and you get this massive corrupted star guardian wings spread, dark energy radiating outward. The untargetability window feels dramatic in a way base Xayah just doesn’t deliver. Not gonna lie, I’ve ulted purely for the animation in ARAM more than once.

The recall animation tells its own story. You see the corruption fighting against the star guardian light inside her. Real lore heads know this ties into the whole fallen guardian arc with Rakan. Speaking of which, if you have Star Guardian Rakan on your team there’s special interactions between them. Riot actually put effort into the duo fantasy here which matters because half the reason people play Xayah is the Rakan synergy.

Voice, splash, and the Star Guardian season 3 lineup

Laila Pyne on the voice acting. Full new VO with corrupted star guardian lines that swing between edgy and genuinely emotional. Some of the Rakan-specific voice lines hit harder than they should for a cosmetic in a MOBA. Could be wrong here but I think this skin has more voice lines than most Legendaries from that era.

Star Guardian Season 3 dropped September 12, 2019. This was the wave that went dark with the whole corruption storyline. Xayah and Rakan as fallen guardians, Zoe as the villain pulling strings. Kinda feels like Riot peaked with this particular Star Guardian batch in terms of narrative ambition.

Esben Lash Rasmussen and Atey Ghailan handled the splash artwork. Two artists on one splash and you can tell why – the composition is complex. Xayah’s pose radiates this defiant energy, corrupted feathers spreading behind her, and the color work balances the dark purples against those faint star guardian pinks still bleeding through. (Random aside: this splash was my desktop wallpaper for like six months straight, the dual artist collab produced something special.)

3 chromas available. Ruby shifts her into a red corruption palette that reads more aggressive in lane. Aquamarine goes blue-teal and honestly looks closest to an uncorrupted guardian vibe. Turquoise sits somewhere between. Not a huge chroma selection compared to newer skins but each one changes enough to feel distinct.

Where Star Guardian Xayah sits in the ADC skin tier list

Been running this skin in Diamond for multiple seasons now and it’s still my go-to Xayah pick. The feather visibility alone makes it practical for ranked. I switch between this and Brave Phoenix sometimes but keep coming back. There’s something about the corrupted aesthetic that just fits Xayah’s personality better than the heroic skins.

At 1820 RP it’s full Legendary price. Earns it. New VO, new VFX on every ability, the Rakan interaction layer, the recall storytelling. Compare this to some of the 1350 RP Xayah skins and the gap is massive. Elderwood is nice but it doesn’t have voice lines. Cosmic Dusk was her launch skin and shows its age. Star Guardian Xayah is the complete experience.

Real talk though, if you dont play Xayah at least semi-regularly I’d say skip it. This is a skin that rewards mains who will hear the full VO, notice the feather VFX differences, and appreciate the Rakan synergy lines. Played maybe 300 games with this thing across seasons 10 through 14 and I’m still catching voice lines I missed. For Xayah one-tricks and ADC mains who have her in rotation, this is the Xayah skin. S-tier cosmetic. For everyone else, maybe wait for a My Shop discount because 1820 RP on a champion you play twice a month is rough. But if you’re locking in Xayah in ranked, climbing through bot lane, spamming feathers into the backline every teamfight – this is the one. Season 9 or 10, dont remember exactly when I bought it, but zero regrets since.
