First time I saw Special Weapon Zac in a loading screen I thought someone modded their client. The purple-black alien look is so different from base Zac that it barely registers as the same champion. Been running this skin on and off since season 3 and it still turns heads in Diamond lobbies when people expect the usual green blob.
What actually changes with Special Weapon Zac
The entire color palette flips from Zac’s signature green to this dark purple with hints of black. Kinda feels like Riot took the Void aesthetic and slapped it onto a blob champion. The texture work reads as more sinister, almost like Zac got corrupted by something nasty. His body has these vein-like patterns running through it that catch light differently depending on the angle.
VFX got a rework here. His Q, W, E, and R all carry that purple tint which honestly makes the abilities easier to track in teamfights. Not sure if it’s just me but the Elastic Slingshot feels more satisfying when you see that dark streak flying across the lane. The blobs he drops also match the purple theme so you’re not picking up green pieces with a purple body.
Recall animation is custom too. For a 975 RP Standard skin released in 2013, thats pretty generous from Riot. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the visual package alone carries this one. Simple change – huge impact on how Zac feels to play. Last Tuesday I ganked bot lane and my ADC pinged the skin asking what it was. In Diamond. People still dont know this skin exists sometimes.
The Legacy line and release context
Special Weapon Zac dropped March 29, 2013. Day one skin for Zac’s release. Pan Chengwei did the splash and honestly captured the alien weapon vibe perfectly. The splash shows Zac in this laboratory setting looking like he’s about to break containment.
Part of the Legacy skinline which is just Riot’s catch-all for older skins that dont fit a thematic universe. Shop has it at 975 RP. No chromas available. (Random aside: the splash would make a solid desktop wallpaper if you crop it right, been using it for my second monitor since like season 10 I think.)
For context Zac only had two skins for years after release. This and base. So Special Weapon carried the entire “alternate Zac” fantasy before Pool Party and SKT dropped later. Mains had no choice and honestly? Could be wrong here but I think this forced loyalty is why so many Zac one-tricks still default to Special Weapon over newer options.
Should you grab Special Weapon Zac for 975 RP?
Real verdict: if you play Zac in the jungle at all, this skin earns its price. 975 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX changes alone make abilities read cleaner on the Rift. Been spamming Zac in ranked this split and I keep coming back to Special Weapon over Battlecast and even Empyrean.
The competition is stiffer now with newer skins having more bells and whistles. Pool Party Zac exists. Empyrean exists. But Special Weapon has this gritty alien energy that none of the others replicate. Skip it if you only play Zac as a pocket pick maybe three games a season. But for mains? Top pick for Zac mains. Played maybe 200 games with this thing across multiple seasons and the purple blob just hits different when you’re diving the backline at dragon pit. Available any time in the shop so no rush, but if you see it on sale for half off dont hesitate.
