Snow Moon Illaoi

First time I saw Snow Moon Illaoi load in, I thought Riot finally figured out what to do with her. Not gonna lie, Illaoi has always been one of those champions where the skin team seems to struggle with the tentacle fantasy. This one though? The silver and pale blue palette with the lunar motifs on her idol just works. Locked this in for about 40 ranked games the week it dropped and the VFX alone kept me coming back.

What Snow Moon Illaoi actually brings to the table

So the tentacles. Thats the whole thing with any Illaoi skin, right? If the tentacles look bad, the skin is dead on arrival. Snow Moon gives them this cold spectral glow, pale moonlight energy that reads cleanly against the Rift. When you slam W and a tentacle comes crashing down, there’s a frosted particle burst that feels heavier than base. Good stuff.

Q sends out this wide lunar arc. The ground indicator has a subtle crescent pattern I didnt even notice until maybe my tenth game. E is where it gets interesting though. The spirit pull has this silvery tether that looks way more distinct than default, easier to track in a chaotic teamfight. Been playing since season 5 and I can tell you visibility on Illaoi E matters more than people think. When you’re trying to peel for your backline or dive their carry, knowing exactly where that tether sits is huge.

Ult VFX are clean. R slams down and you get this burst of moonlight energy radiating outward. In a 3v1 splitpush scenario last Thursday I popped ult in their top side and the visual clarity actually helped me track which tentacles were proccing and which werent. Could be wrong here but I think the hitbox reads better on this skin than Cosmic Invoker.

The recall animation fits the Snow Moon theme. Illaoi meditates with her idol under moonlight. Simple change – huge impact on the skin’s feel. Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP.

The Snow Moon line and release context

Snow Moon Illaoi dropped June 23, 2022. Mid-season 12 if I remember right. David Villegas and West Studio handled the artwork, and they captured something fierce in the splash. Illaoi standing under a crescent moon with her idol radiating cold energy. Check their portfolio honestly, this is solid work.

The Snow Moon skinline is one of Riot’s more underrated themes. Kinda feels like it never got the hype that High Noon or Spirit Blossom gets, but the aesthetic is consistent. Caitlyn and Kayn both have Snow Moon skins and the whole set shares that silver-blue-white palette. Illaoi fits naturally into the line because the tentacle god she worships translates well into a lunar deity concept.

8 chromas total for Snow Moon Illaoi. Obsidian is my go-to because it turns the whole thing dark and the tentacles get this shadowy purple energy that reads like an entirely different skin. Sapphire pushes hard into an icy direction, almost Freljord vibes. Rose Quartz is interesting if you want something softer but honestly I keep coming back to Obsidian. (Random aside: the Obsidian chroma on this skin has been my desktop wallpaper since like August 2022.)

Is Snow Moon Illaoi worth 1350 RP?

Real verdict: if you main Illaoi this is competing with Cosmic Invoker for best skin slot. Might be overthinking it but I think Snow Moon edges it out purely on tentacle clarity. The VFX are distinct without being noisy. You know what surprised me? How clean the E tether looks in late-game fights around dragon pit. Played maybe 30 games in Diamond with this one and I never felt like the particles got lost in the chaos.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across all abilities, solid recall, clean splash. Shop has it, no vault nonsense. For Illaoi one-tricks this is an easy pickup. For people who play her occasionally in top lane when they need a splitpush threat, its still worth considering. Skip it only if you already own Cosmic Invoker and dont care about variety. Been maining Illaoi with this skin on and off for seasons now and the tentacle VFX alone justify the price. Top pick for Illaoi mains, no question.
