Not gonna lie, there’s something about seeing Riot Graves load into a game that just hits different. The whole concept of Graves decked out in riot gear with a helmet and shield, trading his usual outlaw look for full tactical enforcement mode. Been running this skin on and off since season 3 and it still gets comments in lobby chat. Rare enough that most people dont even recognize it.
What Riot Graves actually brings to the table
This is a Standard tier skin at 975 RP, so temper expectations. No new VFX on the abilities, no voice filter, base VO stays the same. What you get is a complete model swap. Graves trades the cowboy getup for dark tactical armor, riot shield strapped to his back, helmet with visor. The shotgun gets a sleek matte black redesign that reads well against the Rift.
Kinda feels like Riot took the “what if Graves was on the other side of the law” angle and ran with it. The silhouette changes enough that he looks distinct in lane, especially when you’re csing and the armor catches the light from river. His auto attack animations feel chunkier with the new model even though mechanically nothing changed. Placebo? Probably. But I swear my cs improved the first week I used it.
Voice lines stay base. No new recall animation either. For a 975 RP skin from 2012 thats about what you’d expect. The splash is solid though, Graves looking menacing in full riot gear with smoke behind him. Simple composition but it works for the era.
The Riot skinline and where this one fits
Released August 16, 2012. Deep into season 2 territory. The Riot skinline is one of Riot Games’ self-referential collections where champions get kitted out in Riot-branded gear. Think Riot Blitzcrank, Riot K-9 Nasus. The whole line started as convention exclusives and event giveaways before most of them landed in the Legacy vault.
Riot Graves sits in the Legacy pool now, so you cant just grab it from the shop whenever. Hextech only these days, or you wait for one of those rare vault openings. (Random aside: I got mine from a mystery gift back when those were the move, like season 4 or something.) Zero chromas available which makes sense given the age. The Riot line never got the chroma treatment.
Played maybe 40 games with this last season around late November. In my Diamond games specifically, ran into exactly one other person using it. That kind of rarity is part of the appeal for Graves mains who want something different from Pool Party or the EDG skin everyone and their duo partner uses.
Should you chase Riot Graves?
Real verdict: this is a collector’s skin. If you’re a Graves one-trick who wants the full collection, obviously you need it. The tactical armor look is clean and the model holds up better than some 2012 skins I could name. But 975 RP worth of changes with no VFX and no new recall means you’re paying for the aesthetic and the exclusivity.
Could be wrong here but I think this is one of those skins that ages into relevance. The longer it stays vaulted the cooler it gets to flash in champ select. Not the best Graves skin by any stretch. Sentinel and Porcelain exist. But for what it is, a decade-old Legacy standard skin, it earns its spot in the rotation. Worth grabbing if it ever drops from a chest. Dont go out of your way to reroll for it though unless you really main Graves and want the flex.
