First time I saw Queen of Diamonds Syndra in a loading screen I thought someone was running a custom skin. Not because it looks bad, the opposite actually. For a 750 RP Standard tier skin this one punches above its weight in the splash department. The in-game model tells a different story though, and thats where things get complicated for Syndra mains trying to decide between this and the rest of her catalog.

What actually changes on the Rift

So at 750 RP you’re getting a model swap and texture changes. No new VFX on Q, W, E, or R. Voice lines stay base. No recall animation either. Standard fare for this price point.

The outfit itself is a red and gold card-themed design. Syndra’s spheres get a subtle color shift to match the diamond motif, and her crown-headpiece leans into the playing card queen aesthetic. Not gonna lie, the gold trim on the outfit reads really well in lane. Even at the zoomed-out camera angle you can tell its a distinct silhouette from base Syndra.

Problem is the abilities. When you’re throwing Q spheres around in a teamfight or setting up a seven-sphere ult, everything still looks like default Syndra. The dark purple orbs kind of clash with the red-gold outfit if I’m being honest. Could be wrong here but I feel like even a slight recolor on the spheres would have elevated this skin from “decent” to “great.” Been running this in Diamond on and off since season 6 and the visual disconnect between model and abilities never stops bugging me.

The Highstakes line and release context

Queen of Diamonds Syndra dropped May 20, 2015. Part of the Highstakes skinline alongside the other card-themed skins like Ace of Spades Ezreal and King of Clubs Mordekaiser. Cool concept for a set. Each champion gets a playing card rank and suit.

Michal Ivan and Sixmorevodka Studio handled the splash art. They cooked. The splash captures Syndra mid-cast with playing cards swirling around her spheres, this regal pose that fits the queen fantasy perfectly. Might be overthinking it but I think this splash is one of the better ones in the Highstakes set, the composition just works. (Random aside: I used this splash as my Discord avatar for like three months back in 2019.)

No chromas on this one. Zero. Which is a shame because a black and silver “Spades” variant or something along those lines would have been sick. Shop has it permanently so at least you dont have to wait for some vault rotation to pick it up.

Should you lock in Queen of Diamonds Syndra?

Real verdict: this is a budget Syndra skin that does its job. 750 RP feels fair for what you get. The model is clean, the theme is fun, and if you’re not the type to care about matching VFX then honestly its fine for what it is.

But if you main Syndra and you’re looking for the full package, Star Guardian or Withered Rose or even Snow Day will give you way more for the money. Those skins change particles, sounds, the whole deal. Queen of Diamonds Syndra is the skin you use when you want something different from base but you’re not ready to drop 1350 on an Epic. Played maybe 40 games with this last season around November and I kept switching back to Withered Rose for ranked because the ability visuals just read better in late-game teamfights when you need to track your spheres for peel and engage setups.

Skip this unless you’re collecting the full Highstakes set or you genuinely love the card queen aesthetic. For everyone else climbing solo queue on Syndra, spend the extra RP on something with new particles. Simple change – huge impact on how the champion feels mid-game.
