Lunar Beast Alistar

First time I saw Lunar Beast Alistar load in, season 11 ranked around 1 AM, I thought it was a completely different champion. Not even joking. The silhouette reads so different from base Alistar that my brain needed a second to process it. Been playing support and jungle Alistar on and off since season 7, and this skin changed the way the champion feels in my hands. Kinda feels like Riot actually put thought into the Lunar Beast line for once.

How Lunar Beast Alistar actually looks in game

The model is where this skin earns its keep. Alistar gets this heavy ceremonial armor with deep reds and golds, ox-themed headpiece that ties into the Year of the Ox event from 2021. Massive horns. The whole design screams mythological beast and it works way better than I expected from an Epic tier skin.

VFX got a full rework for 1350 RP. His Q groundslam has this red and gold burst that reads clean in teamfights. W headbutt trails red energy behind him. Not gonna lie, the W animation specifically feels more satisfying to land with this skin. Could be placebo but the wind-up looks snappier. E heal pulses with warm golden light instead of the base green, which is a nice touch when youre peeling for your ADC in a chaotic dragon fight.

Recall animation is the highlight though. Alistar does this ceremonial ox dance, stamps the ground, fireworks go off. Classic Lunar Revel energy. Played maybe 200 games with this skin and I still let the full recall play out instead of canceling it. Worth the extra second.

Voice lines stay base. Same Harlan Hogan VO from default Alistar. No filter, no new lines. Standard for an Epic.

The Lunar Beast line and where Alistar fits

Released February 4, 2021 alongside the Lunar Beast batch. That was the Year of the Ox event, so Alistar getting a skin here made perfect thematic sense. Alex ‘alexplank’ Flores nailed the splash. The composition puts Alistar front and center with this explosive red backdrop, lanterns floating everywhere. Strong piece.

The Lunar Beast skinline had some hits and some misses. Fiora and Darius from the same set both looked solid. Viego’s was forgettable. Alistar sits somewhere near the top of the batch I think. The ox motif gives him a natural advantage since, well, he’s already a bull. Riot didnt have to stretch the concept at all.

7 chromas available for this one. Obsidian is my go-to pick, turns the whole skin dark with these subtle gold accents that look clean against the Rift. Amethyst swaps everything to purple and honestly reads like a completely different skin. Rose Quartz is the sleeper pick for anyone who wants something softer. Rest are fine but those three carry the chroma set.

(Random aside: the Obsidian chroma on Lunar Beast Alistar has been my phone lock screen since I rolled it from a chest in like March 2021. No regrets.)

Should you pick up Lunar Beast Alistar?

Real verdict: this is a Legacy vault skin now, so you cant just grab it whenever you want. Sits in the vault and comes out during Lunar Revel events or shows up in Your Shop if you play enough Alistar. Hextech crafting is your other option. 1350 RP when it was available, standard Epic pricing.

For Alistar mains specifically, this competes directly with Moo Cow and Blackfrost. Different vibes entirely. Moo Cow is the meme pick, Blackfrost is the edgy pick, Lunar Beast is the “I actually want my champion to look powerful” pick. Been running this as my main Alistar skin since that ranked game where my Kayn inted three times before level 6 and I still managed to peel the teamfight at drake. Skin felt right.

Might be overthinking it but there’s something about the red and gold color scheme that makes your engage feel more threatening. Maybe just my experience but I swear laners respect the W-Q combo more when you’re running this. Season 13 I think, spammed this in Diamond for a solid two months straight on support Alistar. Win rate stayed consistent.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across abilities, solid recall, strong model redesign. No new voice is the only knock against it but thats standard at this price point. Top pick for Alistar mains who want something with actual presence on the Rift. If it shows up in your loot or Your Shop rotation, lock it in.
