First time I saw Lancer Zero Hecarim load into my game I genuinely thought it was a new champion. Not gonna lie, the silhouette is so different from base Hecarim that my brain needed a second to process what was charging at me from river. The white and gold armor plating, the lance held forward like an actual jousting knight. Completely different energy from anything else in Hecarim’s lineup.
The full visual package on Lancer Zero
So this is a Mythic tier skin, and it shows in the details. The model rework turns Hecarim into this angelic lancer figure. White armor with gold trim, glowing blue accents running through the joints and the lance itself. His lower half keeps the spectral horse shape but wrapped in this sleek futuristic plate armor that reads more mech-knight than ghost centaur. Clean design.
The VFX are where Lancer Zero Hecarim really earns its status. His Q swings trail this bright blue energy arc instead of the usual green spectral slash. W creates a geometric circle pattern on the ground, almost like a shield generator activating around him. E charge builds up with blue particle trails streaming behind, and when you connect with a target the impact burst is satisfying. Big flash of light, clean hit confirmation. His R is probably the highlight though. The spectral riders become these armored lance-wielding phantoms charging in formation. Looks like a proper cavalry charge instead of a ghost parade.
Recall animation is custom too. Hecarim plants his lance into the ground and this energy field expands outward, kinda feels like he’s claiming territory. Voice lines stay base unfortunately, no new VO which is the one area where this skin doesnt quite match what you’d expect at this tier. But the visual overhaul is strong enough to carry it.
(Random aside: I’ve used this recall to BM after stealing dragon more times than I’m proud of.)
Where Lancer Zero fits in the lineup
Released August 16, 2017. Mid-season 7 if I remember right. Xu ‘Crow God’ Cheng nailed the splash, the composition with the lance pointed directly at the viewer has this aggressive energy that most Hecarim splashes lack. Really captures what the skin feels like in game.
The Lancer skinline is one of Riot’s smaller thematic sets. You got Lancer Rogue Blitzcrank, Lancer Paragon Blitzcrank, and Lancer Stratus Wukong in the same universe. Hecarim fits the Lancer theme better than any of them honestly. A mounted knight with a lance. It writes itself. The Lancer line never really took off the way Dark Star or Project did, but the individual skins are solid. Lancer Zero Hecarim is the best executed of the set.
No chromas on this one. Given the Mythic status thats expected. Riot typically keeps Mythic skins as single-variant releases.
Availability wise, this is a Mythic skin with Special pricing. You cant just walk into the shop and grab it. Need to roll it from chests or wait for a Mythic shop rotation. Could be wrong here but I think it shows up in the Mythic Essence shop periodically. Been playing since season 5 and I’ve seen maybe 4 of these in my ranked games total across hundreds of Hecarim encounters. Rare skin in practice.
How it plays in Diamond
Took this into ranked for about 30 games last season after I finally rolled it from a chest around November. The VFX clarity is actually decent. Your Q range reads clearly, your E charge is visible to you and enemies, and the R ghostriders dont obscure your actual hitbox. Some skins make it harder to track your own abilities in a teamfight. Lancer Zero Hecarim keeps everything readable.
One thing I noticed specifically in bot lane ganks and river skirmishes: the white color scheme stands out against the Rift’s darker terrain. Could argue that makes you slightly more visible when trying to flank through jungle, but realistically if the enemy ADC has ward coverage it doesnt matter what skin you’re wearing. The engage pattern is the same. E from fog, R the backline, Q spam in the middle of their comp. Peel for nobody because you’re Hecarim and your job is to dive.
Spammed this in Diamond for the full pre-season and the skin just feels premium. The auto attack animations have this weight to them, the lance connecting with targets has a satisfying rhythm when you’re clearing camps or fighting in lane. Not sure if it’s just me but my jungle clear felt smoother. Placebo probably. But I’ll take it.
The honest take
Lancer Zero Hecarim is arguably the best Hecarim skin if you can get your hands on it. The competition is High Noon Hecarim and Arcana Hecarim, both solid picks with more availability. But Lancer Zero has that rare factor plus a genuinely unique visual identity. No other Hecarim skin turns him into a knight. Every other skin keeps the spectral warhorse vibe, this one goes full armored cavalry.
Skip it if you’re not a Hecarim main. The Special pricing and Mythic rarity mean you’re either spending Mythic Essence or getting lucky with Hextech crafting. Not worth chasing unless Hecarim is your go-to jungler. But if you one-trick the horse, been maining Hecarim through thick and thin, this is the skin. Top pick for Hecarim mains who want something nobody else is running. S-tier cosmetic that earned its Mythic status.
Real talk though, if Riot ever adds new voice lines to this skin it would be perfect. That’s the only thing holding it back from being a 10 out of 10 for me. The visuals do the heavy lifting and they do it well. Just wish the VO matched the effort they put into everything else.
