First time I saw General Wukong in a loading screen I thought someone modded the game. The armor just looks that different from base. Played maybe 200 games with this one across seasons 3 through 6 before rotating to other skins, and honestly it still holds up better than some 975 RP options Riot puts out today.
What the skin actually changes
General Wukong swaps the Monkey King’s default look for a full military commander aesthetic. Heavy plated armor, a more ornate staff, and a helmet that gives Wukong this serious warlord presence on the Rift. No new VFX on Q or E, no updated particles on your ult. Voice lines stay base. Standard tier stuff at 750 RP so thats expected.
The model work carries the whole skin. Wukong’s staff gets this gold and red treatment that reads cleanly in teamfights. Not gonna lie, the armor detail is solid for a skin from 2011. The shoulder plates and chest piece give him a bulkier silhouette compared to default, which I think actually helps with the engage fantasy when you’re diving their backline with E into R.
Could be wrong here but the auto attack animations feel slightly weightier with the heavier staff model. Probably just placebo from the visual bulk. Either way, spamming autos after Q proc feels satisfying. Been running this in Diamond when I want a clean Wukong look without all the flashy particle effects that come with his newer skins. Sometimes simple is better.
Release and the Legacy skinline
General Wukong dropped July 26, 2011. Early League days. Zhou Juexian did the splash, and for that era the composition works. Wukong standing in full military regalia with the staff planted. Not the most dynamic pose compared to modern splashes but it captures the theme. (Random aside: this splash reminds me of those old Dynasty Warriors box art covers and I cant tell if thats intentional.)
Part of the Legacy catalog. Shop has it at 750 RP which is about as cheap as skins get these days outside of the 520 tier. No chromas available. Zero. For a skin this old that’s normal. Riot wasnt doing chromas back in season 1.
The Legacy line is basically Riot’s catch-all for older skins that dont fit a specific thematic. General Wukong sits alongside stuff like Volcanic Wukong in that early roster. Real talk though, between those two original Wukong skins, General is the stronger pick. The military theme gives Wukong more visual identity than just “red monkey.”
Should you pick up General Wukong?
Straight talk: if you’re a Wukong main climbing through ranked and you want something different from base without dropping 1350 on Radiant or Battle Academia, General Wukong does the job. 750 RP feels fair for what you get. The model is clean, the theme is distinct, and in lane or during a gank the skin reads well.
Last Tuesday I locked in General Wukong for a jungle clear test in practice tool just to see how it felt in season 14. Still smooth. The staff animations during E engage into R teamfight combos look good even by current standards. Not the flashiest Wukong option but for mains who rotate between skins, this earns a slot.
Skip it if you already own Jade Dragon or Lancer Stratus. Those bring more to the table with updated effects. But if you’re building a Wukong collection or you just like the military commander fantasy, 750 RP well spent for mains. Might be overthinking it but I think this is one of those skins that ages better than people expect because the theme is timeless. Generals dont go out of style.
