Empyrean Lux

First game I played with Empyrean Lux was around 2 AM on a weeknight, and the VFX genuinely caught me off guard. Not sure if it’s just me but the whole neon-digital aesthetic reads way cleaner in motion than it does in the splash. Been maining Lux on and off since season 7 and this one slotted right into my rotation after maybe three ARAM games.

How Empyrean Lux actually plays

The VFX overhaul is the main draw here. Her Q binding gets this sharp cyan trail that cuts through teamfights better than most of her other skins. Honestly not gonna lie, landing a max-range Q with this skin just feels different. The particle is thinner, tighter. Reads well against dark Rift terrain.

W shield has a digital ripple effect. Subtle change but it makes shielding your ADC in lane feel more intentional, like you can actually track who got the proc. E zone is where it gets interesting – the Lucent Singularity pops with this fragmented holographic look. Played maybe 40 games with this skin last season and the E detonation never got old.

Her ult is solid. Big laser, neon streak, standard Lux fantasy but wrapped in that Empyrean digital skin. Not the most dramatic ult VFX Lux has (Dark Cosmic still holds that crown) but its clean and satisfying. The recall animation pulls the whole theme together with Lux ascending through some kind of digital plane. Worth watching at least once before you spam B.

Base voice lines, no changes. Carrie Keranen’s VO carries over from default. For an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP thats expected, and honestly the base voice fits fine here.

The Empyrean line and where Lux fits

Released November 3, 2022. Mid-season 12, right when the Empyrean batch dropped alongside K’Sante’s launch. West Studio handled the artwork, and they captured that high-tech ascension vibe across the whole set. The Empyrean skinline leans into this digital transcendence concept. Lux fits it naturally because her kit is already beam-and-light focused.

The Empyrean roster is stacked. Jhin, Pyke, Zed, Varus all got skins in the line. Lux holds her own but she doesnt stand out as the flagship of the set. Kinda feels like she was the accessible pick for support and mid players who wanted in on the theme without buying the Legendary K’Sante skin.

9 chromas total. Obsidian is the standout for me, turns the whole palette dark and the abilities pop harder against the muted base model. Tanzanite leans into a deep purple that reads like a Dark Star crossover. Neon Flare is wild – red and green split that I’ve seen maybe twice in my Diamond games all season. Most people run base or Obsidian from what I can tell. (Random aside: the Pearl chroma on this skin is genuinely one of the cleanest white-themed Lux looks in the game, beats out several of her standalone skins.)

Should you pick up Empyrean Lux?

Real verdict: this is a good skin. Not her best. Lux has too many options for any single Epic to dominate. Dark Cosmic and Elementalist exist in a different tier entirely. But if you’re looking for something modern with sharp VFX and you dont want to drop Legendary or Ultimate money, Empyrean Lux earns its 1350 RP.

Shop has it. Permanent availability, no vault nonsense. Could be wrong here but I think this skin performs better in ranked than most Lux options because the particles are clean without being distracting. Been running this in Diamond when I need a comfort mid pick and the ability clarity is genuinely above average for her catalog.

Skip it if you already own Cosmic or Dark Cosmic. Those two cover the “space-tech” Lux fantasy better. But if you main Lux and want variety in your rotation, 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Solid poke lane skin, good teamfight readability, strong chroma options. Not the Lux skin if you can only own one, but a clean addition if you’re collecting. That ranked game last week where my Kayn inted three times pre-6 and I still carried on Empyrean Lux – the skin wasnt why, but it didnt hurt either.
