Battle Academia Rakan

First game I loaded this up was a late-night ranked session, maybe 1 AM on a Wednesday. My duo locked in Xayah and I hovered Battle Academia Rakan without even checking the spotlight. Just vibes. Honestly not gonna lie, the anime school uniform direction on a champion who already moves like he’s performing for a crowd? Felt like it was made for him. Rakan already has this dramatic flair in his kit and the Battle Academia line leans all the way into it.

What actually changed on Battle Academia Rakan

The VFX are the main sell here. New particles on everything that matters. His W, Grand Entrance, gets this bright energy burst on impact that reads clean in teamfights. You know what surprised me? The E shield visuals. They pop harder than I expected for an Epic tier skin. Golden streaks trail behind Rakan when he dashes to an ally, and in chaotic bot lane trades thats actually useful for readability.

Q heal effect has a subtle academic glow to it. Nothing crazy but it ties the theme together. The recall animation is where Riot put the personality though. Full anime protagonist energy. Rakan does this dramatic pose with floating academy symbols around him. Been spamming the recall in Diamond games just to tilt the enemy support.

Base voice lines, no changes. Standard for 1350 RP so no complaints there. The model itself looks sharp. White and gold uniform with these angular shoulder pieces. Cape flows well with his passive movement speed. Kinda feels like they studied what makes Battle Academia work on champions like Ezreal and Lux and applied the same formula but with Rakan’s dancer silhouette.

Skin particles during his R are where it gets interesting in practice. The charm effect has this golden pulse that spreads outward. In a five-man engage where you’re diving the backline, the visual feedback helps you track who got hit. Small detail. Matters in Diamond+ where people actually sidestep your ult.

The Battle Academia line and release context

Battle Academia Rakan dropped March 19, 2025. Late season 15. Sora Kim and West Studio handled the splash, they captured the vibe perfectly. Rakan standing in what looks like an academy courtyard with that confident smirk. Classic.

The Battle Academia skinline is one of Riot’s more consistent anime-inspired sets. Rakan joins a roster that already includes Ezreal, Lux, Caitlyn, Garen, Leona, Yone, Wukong, and a bunch of others. Could be wrong here but I think Rakan fits the theme better than half the existing roster. His personality already screams popular transfer student who shows up mid-semester and immediately has a fan club.

8 chromas total. Obsidian is my go-to because the dark uniform with gold accents gives off a more serious look that contrasts with Rakan’s usual flamboyance. Tanzanite hits different too, the deep purple reads well against Summoner’s Rift. Rose Quartz is the obvious pick if you want to match with a Xayah player in your duo. (Random aside: my phone wallpaper has been the base splash since release and I dont plan on changing it.)

Should you pick up Battle Academia Rakan?

Real verdict: if you play Rakan with any regularity this is a strong pickup. Not his absolute best skin, I still think Star Guardian and Elderwood compete for that spot depending on your taste. But Battle Academia Rakan fills a specific niche. Clean. Modern. Good particle clarity in lane and in teamfights.

For support mains who peel and engage in equal measure, the VFX readability on W and E matters more than people think. Played maybe 40 games with this skin since it dropped last month and the visual feedback during a flash W into the enemy comp just feels right. Season 9 or 10, dont remember exactly, I used to run Cosmic Dawn exclusively. This has replaced it in my rotation.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX, solid recall, clean model. Voice pack is base only but thats the deal at this price point. Skip the chromas unless Obsidian or Tanzanite catch your eye. The rest are fine but nothing I’d spend extra on. If you main Rakan and want something that reads well in ranked while looking like an anime protagonist doing it, Battle Academia Rakan earns the slot.
