First time I saw Arclight Brand load into my game I genuinely thought it was a custom skin. Not gonna lie, the golden holy fire aesthetic on a champion known for burning everything alive felt wrong in the best way possible. Brand mains usually get stuck with the “angry fire guy” fantasy and this was Riot saying okay but what if the fire was righteous. Played maybe 40 games with this the week it dropped back in March 2019 and the novelty still hasnt worn off for me.
How Arclight Brand actually looks in game
The model swap is the first thing that hits you. Brand goes from charred demon to golden paladin radiating divine energy. White and gold armor pieces replace the cracked magma skin, and the passive blaze marks on enemies shift to this bright amber glow that reads clean against the Rift. Huge visual upgrade.
VFX is where 1350 RP earns its keep here. Q fires a golden bolt that trails light particles instead of the base orange fireball. Feels faster somehow, might just be the cleaner read on the projectile. W drops a pillar of holy light instead of the usual fire circle, and the delay before it pops still catches people off guard in lane. Been playing Brand support in Diamond for three seasons now and the W zone looks noticeably different from base, which matters when you’re trying to zone the enemy ADC off cs.
E spread looks gorgeous. The bounce between targets leaves golden trails connecting them and when you proc the passive stun with three stacks the explosion is this radiant burst. Real talk though, the R is where it gets wild. The bouncing pyroclasm becomes a golden orb of light ricocheting through the enemy team. Last week in a teamfight near baron pit I watched it bounce five times and each hit left these little light sparks. Clean.
Recall animation is new too. Brand channels this ascending light beam, kneeling like he’s receiving divine power. Fits the Arclight theme perfectly. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the voice filter wouldnt really make sense here anyway since the skin is more about visual transformation than character reimagining.
The Arclight line and where Brand fits
Arclight as a skinline has some heavy hitters. Varus and Vel’Koz got solid entries, and Brand slots in naturally. The theme is basically “what if this champion served divine light instead of their usual thing” and for Brand specifically the contrast between destruction and divinity works. Alvin Lee nailed the splash, the composition with Brand floating above golden ruins with light pouring from his hands is one of the better Epic tier splashes from that era.
Released March 7, 2019, late into season 9. Four chromas available and honestly they’re a mixed bag. Obsidian goes dark with purple-black energy which completely changes the skin’s identity, probably my favorite of the set. Ruby swaps to red-gold which feels too close to base Brand for my taste. Aquamarine and Pearl round it out. Aquamarine gives off frost mage vibes which is funny on Brand (sidebar: my duo partner bought it specifically to tilt people in bot lane). Pearl is clean but forgettable.
Kinda feels like Riot could have pushed the chroma designs harder. Four total is modest for an Epic skin even by 2019 standards. The base gold is still the best version in my opinion.
Should you buy Arclight Brand?
Verdict time. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across all abilities, solid model, good recall. No new voice lines but that’s standard for Epic tier. Could be wrong here but I think this is top three Brand skins, competing with Zombie and Spirit Fire for the best slot.
If you one-trick Brand or play him support regularly this is worth picking up. Shop has it, permanent availability, no vault nonsense. The Arclight fantasy is unique enough in Brand’s catalog that it doesn’t overlap with anything else he has. Skip if you already own Zombie Brand and only need one skin in rotation, but for collectors or Brand mains climbing through ranked this season, it earns its price. S-tier Brand cosmetic. (Random aside: the golden W circle on dragon pit floor during late game fights is genuinely one of the prettiest ability visuals I’ve seen in this game.)
