World Championship Skins

All 14 skins in the World Championship skinline. Browse splash art, chromas, and detailed reviews for every World Championship skin in League of Legends.

Been watching Worlds every year since season 2 and honestly the World Championship skins hit different from the team skins. These arent the ones players pick after winning finals. These are Riot's own celebration skins, the ones that drop around the tournament with that gold-and-blue trophy aesthetic. 14 skins deep now spanning 2012 to 2024. Some of them are genuinely clean. Some feel like Riot threw gold particles on a base skin and called it a day. Kinda feels like the line peaked around 2017-2020 and the recent ones have been coasting on brand recognition alone.

What Sets World Championship Skins Apart

The visual identity here is pretty locked in. Gold. Blue. Trophy motifs. Every single World Championship skin shares that Worlds logo palette, the Summoner's Cup worked into the recall animation, and a general "prestige event" vibe that you either love or find boring after the third one. Not gonna lie, the consistency is both the strength and the weakness of this line.

VFX across the Epics follow a template. Gold particle trails on abilities, blue accents on autos, and a recall that features the champion interacting with the Summoner's Cup in some way. Worlds 2020 LeBlanc does the chains in gold that actually read well in teamfights. Worlds 2017 Ashe turns her arrows into these golden streaks that look incredible crossing the Rift. The Standard tier ones from the early years though? Worlds 2012 Riven is basically a texture swap with a trophy sword. Clean for its time but you can feel the age.

Compare this to something like Conqueror skins which also celebrate competitive LoL. Conqueror goes red and gold, more aggressive energy. World Championship leans into blue and gold, more ceremonial. (Random aside: I always mix up which one is which in the shop because the color schemes overlap more than Riot wants to admit.) The splash arts generally feature the champion in some kind of arena or stage setting, which makes sense thematically but does make the splashes blur together after you've seen a few.

What ties it all together is the recall animation. Every World Championship skin has the champion celebrating with or near the Cup. Some are subtle, some are over the top. Worlds 2022 Azir summons a golden soldier formation around the trophy. Worlds 2016 Zed does that shadow clone celebration. These details matter when you're spamming ranked and need something to look at during the 8 second channel back to base.

Best World Championship Skins

Worlds 2020 LeBlanc takes it for me. Full stop. The gold chains, the VFX on her W return pad, the way Distortion leaves this shimmering trail - its the most polished skin in the entire line. Played against one in Diamond last season around 1 AM and genuinely thought it was a Legendary for a second. The particles are that clean. At 1350 RP it earns every point.

Worlds 2017 Ashe sits right behind. Could be wrong here but I think this is one of the best Ashe skins period, not just best in this skinline. The Enchanted Crystal Arrow in gold is gorgeous. You fire that thing across the map in a ranked game and it just commands attention. Been running this on my ADC account since it dropped and the auto attack feel is smooth. Something about the gold arrows hitting minions makes csing feel satisfying in a way thats hard to explain.

Worlds 2019 Ryze surprised me. Ryze skins are hit or miss because his model is awkward, but the World Championship treatment works here. The blue scroll energy mixed with gold accents on his Q spam actually pops. Realm Warp in this skin looks clean too, the gold circle on the ground reads well for your team. Not the flashiest but solid.

Worlds 2021 Jarvan IV deserves a mention. J4 engage with golden Cataclysm walls? Chef's kiss. Locked this in for a jungle clear session last Thursday and the flag-and-drag combo in gold is visually satisfying. The EQ knockup trail specifically looks great.

Worlds 2023 Renekton is the most recent Epic that actually impressed me. Renekton needed a good modern skin and this one delivers. The gold fury bar, the empowered W stun VFX - Riot put effort here. Maybe just my experience but I think this one flies under the radar because people dont associate Renekton with Worlds.

The Champion Roster

13 champions across 14 skins. Riven technically has two, the original Worlds 2012 and the Reignited version. Not sure if it's just me but that feels like Riot playing favorites with the poster child of competitive League.

Thematic fit varies wildly. Thresh works for Worlds because he's been a staple pick in competitive for years. Same with Azir - the emperor commanding golden soldiers at the biggest tournament makes narrative sense. Kalista was a Worlds meta pick when her skin dropped in 2015, so the timing was right even if nobody plays her in solo queue anymore. (Sidebar: I literally havent seen a Kalista in my Diamond games in maybe 200 games this season.)

Some picks feel forced though. Shyvana getting a Worlds skin in 2014 was weird even at the time. She had her moment in competitive that year but the champion's kit doesn't scream "prestigious tournament celebration." Viego getting the 2024 treatment makes more sense given his relevance to the game's lore and his presence in pro play over the last few seasons.

Zed and Kha'Zix both fit the assassin fantasy well with the gold treatment. Real talk though, Zed's 2016 skin competes with too many other Zed options. Championship Zed gets lost in a sea of Galaxy Slayer, PROJECT, and Withered Rose. Kha'Zix's 2018 version has the same problem but slightly less because his skin pool is smaller.

Who's missing? Lee Sin feels like an obvious pick Riot has somehow never done. LeBlanc got hers but where's Orianna? Syndra? Champions that define Worlds metas and would look incredible in gold. Maybe we'll see them in future years.

Tier Breakdown and Pricing

Split pretty evenly. 8 Epics at 1350 RP and 6 Standards at 975 RP. No Legendaries in the entire line which honestly feels like a missed opportunity. Twelve years of World Championship skins and Riot never went above Epic tier. Might be overthinking it but a Legendary World Championship skin with unique VO referencing pro play moments would sell incredibly well.

The 975 RP Standards are the older ones. Worlds 2012 Riven, 2013 Thresh, 2014 Shyvana, 2015 Kalista. These show their age. Limited VFX changes, basic model swaps, recall animations that feel stiff compared to modern standards. Worth it if you're a collector or a one-trick for those champions specifically, but don't expect 2024 production quality.

The Epics from 2016 onward are where the line hits its stride. Zed, Ashe, Kha'Zix, Ryze, LeBlanc, J4, Azir, Renekton, Viego. Each one has proper VFX, custom recalls, and model work that justifies 1350 RP. Price range across the whole line is 975 to 1350, so you're never breaking the bank compared to Legendary or Ultimate purchases.

Fair warning: these skins tend to be available during the Worlds event window and then hit Legacy status. Some rotate back in during the next tournament. If you want one, grab it when its in the shop because availability isnt guaranteed year-round. I missed Worlds 2018 Kha'Zix at launch and had to wait a full year to snag it.

How World Championship Fits Into the Broader Skin Universe

Competitive LoL has three main skin categories. Team skins that winners choose, Conqueror skins for MSI, and World Championship skins for the tournament itself. Of the three, World Championship has the most consistent visual identity but also the least personality. Team skins get the player's signature and champion preference. Conqueror gets the red-gold aggressive energy. World Championship gets... blue and gold. Every year. Again.

That said, the predictability is kind of the point. You see a World Championship skin on the Rift and you immediately know what it represents. Spammed Worlds 2020 LeBlanc in ranked for a solid month after buying it and people in lobby chat would comment on it. "Oh nice Worlds skin" or whatever. It signals that you care about competitive League, that you watched the tournament, that you were there for that year's event.

The skins pair well with Worlds-themed ward skins and icons too. Loading into a game with the full Worlds aesthetic is a vibe if you're into that. Been doing it every October since season 7 I think or maybe 8 dont remember exactly. The point is the line has a clear identity even if individual skins sometimes feel like they're running the same playbook.

For climbing in ranked these skins are fine. No pay-to-win particle clarity issues. The gold VFX on abilities are actually pretty readable in teamfights, which matters when you're trying to peel or engage in a late-game 5v5. Had a game last weekend where my Worlds Ashe ult was clearly visible crossing mid lane and my team actually followed up. Small sample size obviously but the particles dont blend into the background the way some darker skinlines do.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many World Championship skins are there?

14 total as of 2024. Line started in 2012 with Championship Riven and Riot's been dropping one or two every year since. Mix of 8 Epics and 6 Standards. Riven has two versions if you count the Reignited re-release, which bumps the number up. Not a huge line compared to something like Star Guardian but it grows annually so expect more.

What is the best World Championship skin?

Worlds 2020 LeBlanc for me. Gold chain VFX on her abilities look incredible, the recall animation is clean, and the model work holds up. Worlds 2017 Ashe is a close second though, especially if you play ADC. The golden Crystal Arrow crossing the Rift is honestly one of the best looking ults in the game at any price point.

Which champions have World Championship skins?

13 champions across the line. Riven, Thresh, Shyvana, Kalista, Zed, Ashe, Kha'Zix, Ryze, LeBlanc, Jarvan IV, Azir, Renekton, and Viego. Most have one skin each except Riven who got the original 2012 plus the Reignited re-release. Decent spread of roles but leans toward solo laners and junglers honestly.

Does World Championship have Legendary skins?

No Legendaries in the entire line. Everything tops out at Epic (1350 RP). Kinda surprising given how long the line has been running. 12 years and no Legendary feels like a gap Riot should fill. The Epics are solid but a Legendary with unique VO referencing Worlds moments would be massive. Maybe someday.

When did the World Championship skinline release?

First one dropped in 2012 with Championship Riven during the Season 2 World Championship. Been going every year since then through 2024 with Worlds Viego being the latest addition. The line is basically a yearly tradition at this point, one of the longest running thematic events Riot does alongside Snowdown and Lunar Revel.

Are World Championship skins worth buying?

Depends on the specific skin and whether you main the champion. The post-2016 Epics at 1350 RP are genuinely good with proper VFX and model work. The older 975 Standards show their age. Worth it if you care about competitive LoL aesthetics and want to rep your Worlds experience on the Rift. Skip the early ones unless you're collecting.

Do World Championship skins have chromas?

Some of the newer ones do. The earlier World Championship skins from 2012-2015 launched without chromas and never got them. Riot started adding chroma options to the line around the same time they standardized chromas for most Epic releases. Check individual skin pages for specific chroma availability since it varies year to year.

Will Riot make more World Championship skins?

Almost certainly yes. Riot has released at least one World Championship skin every single year since 2012. No reason to think they'll stop given that Worlds is the biggest event on the LoL calendar. Could be wrong but I'd bet on a 2025 addition getting announced around September or October. The champion pick usually ties to whoever's relevant in competitive meta.
