Medieval Skins

All 8 skins in the Medieval skinline. Browse splash art, chromas, and detailed reviews for every Medieval skin in League of Legends.

Medieval is one of those skinlines that feels like it shouldn't work as well as it does. Been playing since season 2 and I remember when half these skins were just "cheap recolors nobody cared about." Fast forward to now and theres something genuinely charming about the whole set. Knights, kings, mages, a literal blacksmith. Riot went full renaissance faire with this one and I think the simplicity is what sells it. No flashy VFX overhauls, no legendary voice packs. Just solid fantasy theming on champions that actually fit a medieval setting. Eight skins total, all Standard tier, priced between 390 and 975 RP.

What Makes the Medieval Line Stand Out

Not gonna lie, when you stack Medieval against something like Coven or Eclipse, it looks modest. No custom particles on any of them. No recall animations that take 15 seconds. But that's kind of the point. These skins came out between 2009 and 2016, back when Riot's approach to cosmetics was "new outfit, maybe a weapon swap, call it a day." The Medieval line leans into that old-school energy hard.

The visual signature here is straightforward fantasy. Armor plating, crowns, robes, chainmail. Color palettes run earthy: golds, silvers, deep reds, stone grays. Queen Ashe gets a royal blue and gold treatment. Tryndamere rocks full plate armor with a crown. Twitch is literally a medieval rat with a crossbow. The splash arts have this painted quality to them that newer lines dont replicate, partly because Riot moved to a different art pipeline around season 6 or 7.

What ties the line together is commitment to a single aesthetic without trying to be edgy or dark about it. No corrupted knights. No fallen kingdoms. Just regular medieval fantasy played straight. Kinda feels like Riot said "what if we just made D&D skins" and then actually followed through. Compare that to something like Ruination where every champion needs glowing eyes and purple mist. Medieval keeps it grounded.

(Random aside: I used to run a D&D campaign where my players were all League champions and the Medieval skins were basically their character art. Worked surprisingly well.)

The shared element across all eight skins is the period-appropriate weaponry and armor. Ashe swaps her ice bow for something more regal. Poppy gets a blacksmith hammer that looks forged rather than magical. Even Veigar trades his dark mage look for a white mage robe. Simple changes but they read cleanly on the Rift during teamfights.

Best Medieval Skins Worth Your RP

Been running most of these at various points across multiple seasons. Here's where I land on the top picks.

Queen Ashe is the standout. Full stop. The royal armor redesign gives her a completely different silhouette in lane and the splash is genuinely one of the better classic-era pieces. Played maybe 60 games with it back in season 4 when I was spamming ADC in ranked. The crown, the regal bow, the cape. Everything reads "queen" without overdoing it. At 975 RP its one of the better value Standard skins in the game.

King Tryndamere pairs with Queen Ashe and thats honestly half the appeal. Lock them both in during duo queue and you've got the royal couple of bot lane. Could be wrong here but I think these were designed as a pair back in 2009. The full plate armor on Trynd looks heavy and grounded which contrasts nicely with his usual barbarian aesthetic. Good skin for Tryndamere mains who want something different from the shirtless warrior vibe.

Medieval Twitch is the sleeper pick. A rat in medieval peasant clothing with a crossbow. The concept alone carries it. Seen this maybe twice in my Diamond games all season and both times it got comments in all chat. The skin has this weird cult following among Twitch one-tricks and I get why. It's funny without being a joke skin.

Little Knight Amumu deserves a mention too. Tiny mummy in knight armor. The helmet is oversized on purpose and it makes his model look adorable during jungle clear. Not the most popular Amumu skin but its got personality. Took this into ranked for a week last March and honestly the vibe just felt right for engage comps.

White Mage Veigar rounds out my top five. Swapping Veigar from dark mage to white mage is a clean concept flip. The white and gold robes look distinct from every other Veigar skin. Real talk though, this one shows its age more than the others. The model is rough by 2026 standards.

The Champion Roster and Who Fits

Eight champions. Ashe, Tryndamere, Twitch, Amumu, Veigar, Poppy, Lux, and Kled. Not every pick makes equal sense for the theme.

Ashe and Tryndamere are natural fits. They're literally Freljord royalty in base lore so putting them in medieval king and queen outfits is almost too easy. Poppy as a blacksmith works perfectly with her hammer. Blacksmith Poppy might be the most thematically logical skin in the entire line. She's already a yordle with a big hammer. Making her a blacksmith is chef's kiss territory.

Sir Kled came later in 2016 and he fits well enough. A mounted knight on Skaarl. The jousting lance is a nice touch. Kled's aggressive personality translates to a hot-headed knight pretty naturally. Been daily driving Sir Kled when I'm autofilled top and need something that matches the splitpush energy.

Sorceress Lux is the one that feels most generic to me. Maybe just my experience but "Lux in a robe" isnt exactly groundbreaking when half her skins are "Lux in a different colored robe." She's got so many better options at this point. The skin works fine but it disappears in a roster of 15+ Lux skins.

Who should Riot add next? Garen is the obvious pick. The dude is literally a knight in base form. Jarvan IV. Fiora with a rapier swap to a longsword. Might be overthinking it but Braum with a castle door shield would go crazy. Leona as a paladin. The line has room to grow if Riot ever circles back to it.

Tier and Price Breakdown

Here's the thing about Medieval. Every single skin is Standard tier. All eight. No Epics. No Legendaries. No Mythics. This is a purely budget skinline and that's actually part of its charm.

Prices range from 390 RP at the low end to 975 RP at the top. Most of them sit around 520 to 750 RP. For context thats cheaper than a single Epic skin. You could theoretically buy the entire Medieval collection for less than two Legendaries. Played around with the math one night at like 1 AM and I think the full set runs about 5000 RP total. Thats roughly $35 USD for eight skins.

The Standard-only roster means no custom VFX, no new voice lines, no unique recalls. What you get is model swaps, texture changes, and sometimes weapon redesigns. For players climbing through ranked who want a skin but dont want to drop 1820 RP on a Legendary, Medieval offers solid options. Especially Queen Ashe and King Tryndamere at 975 RP. Good value.

The trade-off is obvious though. These skins cant compete with modern Epics on a feature level. A 2024 Epic at 1350 RP gives you custom particles, new SFX, recall animation, and sometimes a unique border. Medieval skins give you a costume change. Different eras of skin design. Worth knowing before you buy.

Not sure if it's just me but I think Standard tier skins get underrated in the community. Not every skin needs to be a production. Sometimes you just want your champion to look cool in a different outfit and Medieval delivers exactly that. No more, no less.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Medieval skins are there?

Eight total. Queen Ashe, King Tryndamere, Medieval Twitch, Little Knight Amumu, White Mage Veigar, Blacksmith Poppy, Sorceress Lux, and Sir Kled. All Standard tier, released between 2009 and 2016. Riot hasn't added a new one in about ten years now so the count might stay at eight for a while. Not the biggest line but it covers a decent range of roles.

What is the best Medieval skin?

Queen Ashe. The royal redesign hits harder than anything else in the line and at 975 RP the value is there. King Tryndamere is a close second especially if you duo queue with an Ashe player. Medieval Twitch gets honorable mention for pure personality. Been running Queen Ashe on and off since season 4, still holds up in ranked.

Which champions have Medieval skins?

Ashe, Tryndamere, Twitch, Amumu, Veigar, Poppy, Lux, and Kled. Mix of ADC, top lane, jungle, and support viable picks. Poppy and Kled fit the knight theme most naturally. Lux is the weakest thematic fit honestly. The line covers enough roles that you could run a near-complete Medieval comp if your team cooperates.

Does Medieval have Legendary skins?

No. Every Medieval skin is Standard tier. No Legendaries, no Epics, no Mythics. The whole line sits in the 390 to 975 RP range. This means no custom VFX or new voice lines on any of them. Purely model and texture swaps. Could be wrong here but I dont think Riot plans to revisit this line with higher-tier releases anytime soon.

When did the Medieval skinline release?

The first Medieval skins dropped in 2009 with Queen Ashe and King Tryndamere. The line expanded slowly over the years with the last addition being Sir Kled in 2016. So the full rollout spans about seven years. Early League era through mid-seasons. Most of these skins predate the modern skin pipeline Riot uses now.

Are Medieval skins worth buying?

For the price, honestly yes. You're paying 390 to 975 RP which is dirt cheap by modern standards. Queen Ashe and King Tryndamere offer the most bang for your RP. If you main any of these champions and want a budget skin that looks clean on the Rift, Medieval skins deliver. Just dont expect Epic-level features at Standard pricing.

Do Medieval skins have chromas?

Most Medieval skins dont have chromas. These are older Standard tier skins from 2009 to 2016 and Riot generally doesnt retroactively add chromas to legacy skins at this price point. What you see is what you get. If you want color variety on these champions you'd need to look at their newer skin lines instead.

Will Riot make more Medieval skins?

Hard to say. The last Medieval skin was Sir Kled in 2016 and Riot hasnt touched the line since. They tend to focus on newer thematic lines that support Epic and Legendary tiers. Not gonna lie though, a modern Medieval batch with updated VFX would go hard. Garen, Jarvan, and Fiora are obvious candidates if it ever happens.
