Elderwood Skins

All 17 skins in the Elderwood skinline. Browse splash art, chromas, and detailed reviews for every Elderwood skin in League of Legends.

Elderwood is one of those skinlines that just nails a vibe from the first splash you see. Ancient forest spirits, twisted bark armor, glowing green and amber VFX across the board. Been a fan of this line since the early days when it was just a couple skins and a concept, and watching it grow to 17 skins over the years has been wild. The aesthetic sits somewhere between dark fantasy and Studio Ghibli if you squint hard enough. Not every champion fits the theme perfectly, but when Riot gets it right with Elderwood, they really get it right.

What Makes Elderwood Stand Out on the Rift

Could be wrong here but I think Elderwood is one of the most visually cohesive skinlines Riot has ever put together. The shared DNA across all 17 skins is obvious: bark-textured armor, leaf and vine motifs baked into every ability, and that signature amber-green color palette that reads instantly in a teamfight. You see an Elderwood skin on the loading screen and you know exactly what you're getting before the game even starts.

The VFX work is where the line really shines. Particle effects across the Elderwood roster lean into nature magic hard. Leaves scatter on ability casts. Roots and vines weave through crowd control animations. There's this warm golden glow that ties everything together, almost like autumn light filtering through a canopy. Compare that to something like Coven, which shares some of the dark fantasy space but goes full witch-cult purple-black. Elderwood keeps things warmer. More alive.

Not gonna lie, the splash arts carry a lot of weight here too. The backgrounds are consistently gorgeous - dense enchanted forests, ancient stone circles overgrown with moss, twilight skies through twisted branches. There's a painterly quality to the older Elderwood splashes that some of the newer skinlines dont quite match. The composition feels deliberate in a way that, say, the Empyrean splashes never managed for me.

(Random aside: I used the Elderwood Bard splash as my desktop wallpaper for like eight months straight in season 11. Still one of the best pieces of art Riot has commissioned.)

The Old God sub-theme deserves a mention too. Old God Nocturne sits under the Elderwood umbrella and pushes the aesthetic darker. Corrupted nature instead of enchanted nature. Same forest DNA but twisted into something threatening. Kinda feels like Riot realized they could stretch the concept further without breaking what made the original skins work. Smart move honestly.

Best Elderwood Skins Worth Locking In

Alright, hot takes time. Been playing this game since season 3 and I have strong opinions about which Elderwood skins actually deliver.

Elderwood Bard is the crown jewel. Full stop. The thematic fit is so natural it almost feels like Bard's default should have been Elderwood all along. His whole kit revolves around magical journeys and mystical chimes, and wrapping that in ancient forest spirit energy just works on every level. The Q stun particles look like twisted vines snapping shut. His magical journey portal becomes this hollowed-out tree trunk. Played maybe 150 games on Elderwood Bard in Diamond last season and every single one felt clean. The sound design alone is worth 1350 RP.

Elderwood LeBlanc is a close second. The splash is stunning and her abilities translate beautifully into the forest theme. Her clone mechanic with the Elderwood VFX creates genuine confusion in teamfights because the nature particles obscure the tells that experienced players usually read. Thats a real gameplay advantage wrapped in cosmetic packaging. Had a game last Wednesday where a Zed couldn't figure out which LeBlanc was real under my tower specifically because the Elderwood particles muddied his read.

Elderwood Hecarim deserves more love than it gets. The spectral horse reimagined as a forest nightmare creature is inspired. His ult turning into a stampede of bark-and-vine spirits across the lane hits different when you're the one engaging. S-tier engage skin.

Elderwood Veigar surprised me honestly. Not sure if it's just me but the tiny evil yordle wrapped in ancient tree bark is both adorable and menacing. His cage becomes this ring of gnarled roots and his ult meteor is a massive seed pod or something. Spammed this in ranked around patch 13.15 I think, and the VFX on his W felt so satisfying to land in the bot lane specifically during roams.

Old God Nocturne rounds out my top five. The darker corruption angle gives Nocturne exactly the energy his kit demands. His ult paranoia effect with the Old God overlay is genuinely unsettling. Best Nocturne skin if you want your opponents to feel something when you press R.

The Elderwood Champion Roster

17 champions in the Elderwood line and honestly the roster reads like Riot had a clear vision for who belongs here. Some fits are obvious. Some feel forced. Real talk though, most of them land well.

Bard and Ornn are the most natural fits. Forest spirit energy runs through their base kits already. Ornn especially - ancient craftsman god living under a mountain, reimagined as an ancient forest entity? Makes perfect sense. Been maining Ornn with this skin since it dropped and the forging animation with the bark-and-leaf texture is chef's kiss.

Ahri works surprisingly well. The nine-tailed fox mythology blends cleanly into the enchanted forest aesthetic. Her orb becomes this glowing amber seed thing and her charm sends out a burst of golden leaves. Seen maybe a dozen Elderwood Ahris in my Diamond games this season and the skin reads well even in chaotic teamfights.

Azir is where things get interesting. Ancient emperor commanding sand soldiers, reimagined as a forest lord commanding bark soldiers. Cool concept. The execution is solid but might be overthinking it - his soldiers look a bit cluttered on the Rift when you have three or four up during a siege. Minor complaint.

Rek'Sai and Wukong feel like the weakest thematic fits in the roster. Rek'Sai is a void burrower - the nature overlay works visually but doesn't resonate the same way Bard or Ornn does. Wukong's monkey king fantasy sits a bit awkward in the enchanted forest. They're fine skins. Just not the best examples of what Elderwood can be.

Who should Riot add next? Ivern is the most obvious omission. The literal tree man doesnt have an Elderwood skin. Criminal. Maokai too. (Sidebar: I've been saying this in every skin survey Riot sends out since like 2020 and nothing yet. Pain.) Lillia would be another perfect fit - fawn spirit in an enchanted forest basically writes itself.

Tier Breakdown and What You're Paying

Here's where Elderwood keeps things accessible. 14 of the 17 skins sit at Epic tier, 1350 RP each. The remaining three are Standard tier at 520 RP - those are the older skins like Dryad Soraka and Emerald Taric from way back in 2009 when the skinline was just getting started. No Legendaries. No Ultimates. No Mythics.

Honestly? The lack of a Legendary is both a strength and a missed opportunity. Strength because every Elderwood skin delivers roughly the same level of quality at 1350 RP. You're not looking at a massive gap between the best and worst skin in the line. The Epics all have new VFX, new particles, and solid recall animations. 1350 feels fair across the board.

But imagine an Elderwood Legendary with new voice lines, unique animations, the works. Elderwood Bard with a full VO rework where he speaks in ancient forest whispers? Take my money. Elderwood Ornn with new forging voice lines referencing ancient woodland spirits? Could be the best Legendary in the game. Maybe just my experience but I think Riot left money on the table by never pushing this line into the 1820 RP bracket.

Price range across the full roster runs 520 to 1350 RP. Accessible for most players. If you're climbing ranked on a budget and want a good-looking skin for one of these champions, Elderwood Epics at 1350 are solid value. The Standard tier skins show their age - Dryad Soraka is essentially just a recolor at this point - but they're cheap enough that it dosent matter much.

Elderwood Skinline FAQ

How many Elderwood skins are there?

There's 17 Elderwood skins in the game right now. The line started back in 2009 with Dryad Soraka and Emerald Taric, then Riot kept adding to it over the years through 2023. Most of them are Epic tier at 1350 RP with three older Standard skins at 520 RP. Solid roster size for a skinline that's been around this long.

What is the best Elderwood skin?

Elderwood Bard, not even close. The thematic fit is perfect and the VFX work on his abilities translates the forest spirit fantasy better than any other skin in the line. Elderwood LeBlanc is a strong second pick though, especially if you're a LeBlanc main who values the particle confusion in teamfights. Personal bias maybe but I've played both extensively in Diamond and Bard wins.

Which champions have Elderwood skins?

17 champions total. The big names are Bard, LeBlanc, Ahri, Ornn, Hecarim, Veigar, and Azir. Also includes Alistar, Soraka, Karthus, Taric, Nocturne (Old God variant), Wukong, Gnar, Rek'Sai, Rakan, and Xayah. Good mix of supports, tanks, and mages. Not a lot of ADCs in there honestly.

Does Elderwood have Legendary skins?

Nope. No Legendaries in the Elderwood line. Everything is either Epic at 1350 RP or Standard at 520 RP for the three older skins. Kinda surprising given how popular the aesthetic is. Been waiting for Riot to drop an Elderwood Legendary for years now. Bard or Ornn would be perfect candidates if they ever decide to go there.

When did the Elderwood skinline release?

The earliest Elderwood skins dropped in 2009 with Dryad Soraka and Emerald Taric, back when the game was barely out. The line kept growing through 2023 with newer additions like Elderwood Ornn. So it spans basically the entire history of League. Wild when you think about it - 14 years of forest spirit skins.

Are Elderwood skins worth buying?

If you main any of the champions in the roster, yeah absolutely. The Epic tier skins at 1350 RP all deliver strong VFX changes and cohesive theming. Elderwood Bard and LeBlanc are must-buys for mains. The older Standard skins like Dryad Soraka show their age though, so maybe skip those unless you're collecting. Overall the line punches above its price point.

Do Elderwood skins have chromas?

Several of the newer Elderwood Epics have chroma sets available. The older skins from 2009 don't have any. If chromas matter to you, check the individual skin pages for each champion since the count varies. Some of the chromas push the color palette into darker territory which honestly works better than the base green on certain champions.

Will Riot make more Elderwood skins?

Could be wrong here but I think they will eventually. Elderwood has been getting new additions for over a decade and the aesthetic still holds up. Riot tends to revisit popular lines every couple years. Ivern and Maokai are the most obvious candidates that dont have one yet. No official announcements as of early 2026 though, so we're just hoping at this point.
