Poppy Skins

13 skins available

Poppy has one of those skin catalogs that kind of sneaks up on you. Thirteen skins deep and most people couldnt name more than three off the top of their head. Been maining her on and off since season 6, mostly as a jungle pick in Diamond, and I've cycled through probably eight of these skins by now. The collection ranges from genuinely adorable to genuinely cursed. Not gonna lie, Poppy gets slept on hard when people talk about champion cosmetics, but there's real quality hiding in this roster if you know where to look.

Poppy's Full Skin Collection Over the Years

Thirteen skins spanning from 2010 to 2023. That's a solid thirteen-year run for a yordle who spent a good chunk of that time being one of the least picked champions on the Rift. The early stuff is rough. Blacksmith Poppy dropped back in 2010 and it shows its age in every pixel. Noxus Poppy is from the same era. These were pre-rework skins that got visual updates when Riot rebuilt her kit in late 2015, but even after the facelift they feel like relics.

The tier split tells you a lot about how Riot views Poppy. Six Standard skins, six Epics, one Mythic. No Legendary. Let that sink in for a second. Thirteen skins and not a single Legendary in the bunch. Feels like Riot keeps putting her in group skinlines without ever giving her the solo spotlight treatment. Every Epic she has is 1350 RP and honestly most of them deliver more than some champions' Legendaries do, so maybe I'm just being greedy here.

The real turning point was the 2015 rework. Before that, Poppy was this weird niche bruiser with a kit that made no sense. After the rework she became this lovable hammer-wielding yordle and the skin team clearly got inspired. Star Guardian Poppy came in 2016 and that was the first skin that felt like it was designed for the new Poppy from the ground up. Everything after that point is at minimum decent. Could be wrong here but I think Snow Fawn and Star Guardian are what convinced Riot to keep investing in Poppy skins.

From 2016 to 2023 she got a new skin roughly every year or so. Consistent output. The newest one, Cafe Cuties Poppy, landed in 2023. Cute concept, solid execution. Not her best but far from her worst. The catalog has a clear before-and-after split at the rework and once you see it you cant unsee it.

Best Skins for Poppy

Hextech Poppy is the crown jewel and its not even close. Mythic tier, special currency only, and it earns that exclusivity. The hextech crystal effects on her Q slam and her ult send are genuinely beautiful. Played maybe 40 games with it last season after finally crafting it from gemstones I'd been hoarding since season 10. The hammer model is completely reimagined with those blue-green hextech energy lines running through it. Her W shield pulse looks like shattering crystal. Her E charge leaves a trail of hexagonal particles. (Random aside: I literally screamed when I finally rolled enough gemstones for this one.) If you can get it, get it. Full stop.

Star Guardian Poppy sits right behind Hextech for me. Released back in 2016 as part of the first Star Guardian wave alongside Lux, Jinx, Janna, and Lulu. The skin transforms her into this magical girl warrior and it works way better than it has any right to. Her hammer becomes a star-topped wand thing and the R knockup sends enemies flying with a burst of pink starlight. The recall animation where she sits with her little star familiar? Chef's kiss. Been running this in ranked more than anything else this split honestly. 1350 RP well spent for mains.

Snow Fawn Poppy is the sleeper pick. Winter Wonder skinline, 1350 RP, released around the holiday season. She gets this deer-antler headpiece and a candy cane hammer and the whole thing reads like a Studio Ghibli character dropped into the Rift. The Q leaves snowflake patterns on the ground. Might be overthinking it but the auto attack animations feel smoother on this skin than base, something about the hammer swing arc. Spammed this in Diamond during December and January for two years straight.

Astronaut Poppy is clean. Space suit, bubble helmet, the works. Her ult launches enemies with a rocket booster effect thats pretty satisfying in teamfights. The W creates this holographic dome instead of the standard shield zone. Not as flashy as Star Guardian but it's got a more mature vibe if the magical girl aesthetic isnt your thing.

Bewitching Poppy rounds out the top five. Halloween skin, witch hat, pumpkin-themed hammer. The E wallstun creates a splatter of orange VFX that looks great in bot lane specifically. Solid skin, nothing groundbreaking, but the seasonal theme hits right if you're the type to swap skins based on time of year. Had this locked in for all of October last year.

Skinlines and Themes That Fit Poppy

Star Guardian is Poppy's best thematic home. No contest. The earnest, slightly naive protector archetype maps perfectly onto a yordle who literally carries a hero's hammer looking for the "real" hero. Kinda feels like the Star Guardian writers read Poppy's lore and said "yeah this one writes itself." The magical girl warrior angle gives her abilities this sparkly, energetic feel that matches her playstyle of diving in with E and peeling for carries.

Winter Wonder is another strong fit. Poppy's got that wholesome, storybook energy and the Winter Wonder line leans into it hard with Snow Fawn. The deer motif specifically works because it's gentle but sturdy. Like Poppy herself. Small but hits like a truck.

The older skinlines are more mixed. Dragon World gave us Scarlet Hammer Poppy which is fine but generic. Medieval is Blacksmith Poppy and that's pure legacy novelty at this point. Sugar Rush line didnt include Poppy directly but Lollipoppy exists in this weird candy-adjacent space that I think technically falls under Toy Box. (Sidebar for old Poppy mains: remember pre-rework Lollipoppy splash art? The stuff of nightmares. Riot fixed it but the trauma remains.)

Cafe Cuties is the newest line she's in and it's a decent fit. Poppy serving coffee with a tiny apron and a latte-themed hammer. Not gonna lie its adorable but it doesnt hit the same emotional notes as Star Guardian. The skinline works better on champions with more expressive animations. Poppy's kit is very slam-and-stun focused which makes cute themes feel slightly at odds with what you're actually doing in game. Real talk though, the recall animation saves it.

Budget vs Premium Picks

Poppy's price range runs from 520 RP to 1350 RP for shop skins, with Hextech Poppy sitting outside the normal economy entirely. No Legendary means no 1820 RP decision to agonize over. Good news for your wallet.

Best budget option is Scarlet Hammer Poppy or Battle Regalia Poppy. Both are Standard tier, both got visual updates with the rework, and both look clean enough in game that you wont feel embarrassed locking them in during ranked. Scarlet Hammer specifically has this red-and-gold color scheme that reads well on the Rift. For 520 or 750 RP its a solid pickup if you're climbing and dont want to dump a full 1350 on a champion you play occasionally.

But if you play Poppy with any regularity? 1350 RP for Star Guardian or Snow Fawn is the move. The VFX upgrades alone justify the price jump. Your Q, W, E, and R all get custom particles and that matters when you're spamming abilities in a teamfight at dragon pit at 25 minutes. Fair price for the package. The Epics punch well above the Standard skins here and the gap is noticeable in game.

Could be coping but I genuinely think Poppy has one of the better value propositions in the game. No overpriced Legendary to feel pressured into buying. Six Epics that are all at minimum good. Pick whichever theme you vibe with and you're set.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Poppy have?

Poppy has 13 skins total as of 2023. Six Standard, six Epic, one Mythic. Been collecting them since season 6 and the catalog is solid for a yordle who spent years being unpopular. No Legendary though, which still bugs me. The range covers 2010 through 2023 so there's a huge quality gap between old and new.

What is the best Poppy skin?

Hextech Poppy if you can get it. The crystal VFX on every ability are gorgeous and the hammer model is top tier. If we're talking shop skins only, Star Guardian Poppy takes it. The magical girl theme fits her kit perfectly and the particles on her ult are clean. Spammed it in ranked for months.

What is the cheapest Poppy skin?

Noxus Poppy and Blacksmith Poppy are the cheapest options in the 520 RP range. They're old Standard skins from 2010 that got visual refreshes with the rework. Honest take: they look fine but nothing special. If you're on a tight budget, Scarlet Hammer at 750 RP is a better spend.

Does Poppy have a Legendary skin?

Nope. Thirteen skins and zero Legendaries. Her highest tier is Mythic with Hextech Poppy. Feels like Riot keeps slotting her into group skinlines at Epic tier without giving her the full Legendary treatment. Kinda frustrating for Poppy mains honestly. Maybe someday but I'm not holding my breath.

What skinlines is Poppy in?

Star Guardian, Winter Wonder, Astronaut, Bewitching, Cafe Cuties, Dragon World, Medieval, and a few others. Star Guardian is the best fit by far. The older lines like Medieval and Dragon World feel dated but they have their charm. She gets around thematically, which keeps the collection varied.

Does Poppy have chromas?

Several of her Epic skins have chromas available. Star Guardian Poppy, Astronaut Poppy, and Bewitching Poppy all got chroma sets. Good variety if you want to customize further without buying a whole new skin. Been rocking the pink Star Guardian chroma in my games this season and it hits different from base.

When was Poppy's last skin released?

Cafe Cuties Poppy in 2023. It's a cute skin with a coffee shop theme. Not her strongest but definitely servicable. Before that was Firecracker Poppy. Riot's been giving her roughly one skin per year since the rework which is a decent cadence for a champion with her pick rate.

Is Poppy worth buying skins for?

If you play her at all, yes. Her Epic skins are consistently good value at 1350 RP with full VFX changes on every ability. The kit is satisfying to watch with custom particles, especially the R knockup and E wallstun. Locked her in as my pocket pick for jungle and top lane and never regretted grabbing Star Guardian. Top pick for Poppy mains.
