First game I loaded into with Mecha Kingdoms Leona, my ADC typed “nice gundam” in chat. Honestly not gonna lie, thats a pretty accurate read. The skin turns Leona into a full mech pilot complete with armored plating and glowing energy panels across the shield and sword. Dropped into a Diamond ranked game around midnight on a Tuesday and immediately felt the difference in how the abilities read on screen. Big fan.

How the mech fantasy plays out in game

The VFX overhaul is where this skin earns the 1350 RP Epic price tag. Leona’s Q hits with a mechanical slam effect, gold and white energy rippling outward on proc. Feels heavier than base. W activation wraps her in hexagonal shield panels that pulse before detonating, and the burst radius reads cleaner in teamfights than most of her other skins.

E is the one that surprised me. You know what caught my attention? The zenith blade projectile has this segmented energy trail that looks almost like a grappling hook firing from the mech suit. Locks onto the backline target with a satisfying snap. Been running this in support for two seasons now and the E animation just hits different compared to default Leona.

Her ult drops a mech-styled solar flare with geometric patterns radiating from the center. Clean read for your team, easy to see the stun zone versus the slow zone. No new voice lines on this one, kept the base VO. But the recall animation is where they went hard. Leona summons this massive mech construct around her, powering up before teleporting back. One of the better recall animations on an Epic tier skin, period.

Model changes are solid across the board. The shield is a massive energy barrier mounted on a mechanical arm, sword looks like it could cut through a turret. Color palette sits in gold, white, and deep blue. Could be wrong here but I think this is one of the cleaner Leona models they’ve put out.

The Mecha Kingdoms line and release context

Mecha Kingdoms Leona released January 15, 2020. Early season 10. Sean ‘Raiko’ Tay and West Studio handled the artwork, and they captured the scale of the mech perfectly in that splash. The composition puts Leona front and center with the full mech suit deployed behind her.

The Mecha Kingdoms skinline pulled from East Asian mech aesthetics mixed with dynasty warrior vibes. Leona fits naturally into the Mecha Kingdoms roster alongside Sett, Draven, Garen, and the rest. The line doesn’t get talked about enough honestly. (Random aside: the Mecha Kingdoms splash arts as a set might be the best wallpaper collection Riot’s put out.)

8 chromas total for this one. Obsidian goes full dark mode which reads incredibly clean against the Rift, and I think Sapphire actually competes with the base colorway for best version. Peacekeeper has this deep purple accent that gives off a totally different energy from the gold default. Shop has it, permanent availability so no rush. Been maining Leona with the Obsidian chroma specifically since maybe season 12 or 13 dont remember exactly.

Should you pick up Mecha Kingdoms Leona?

Real verdict: 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX on every ability, a strong recall, clean model work. You’re not getting new voice lines at this price point and that’s expected for an Epic skin. The mech theme is polarizing for some Leona players who prefer her more fantasy-leaning options like Solar Eclipse or Lunar Eclipse. Get it.

If you play Leona in the support role and you want something that feels modern and mechanical, this is the pick. Played maybe 150 games with it across two seasons and the VFX never got old. The engage combo of E into Q into R looks spectacular with the mech effects layered on top of each other in a dive.

Might be overthinking it but I feel like the auto attack animation is slightly smoother on this skin too. Could be placebo. Either way Mecha Kingdoms Leona sits comfortably in my top three for the champion. The Mecha Kingdoms fantasy is executed well here, the chromas add longevity, and the price is standard. Worth 1350 if you main Leona, skip if you already own Eclipse and dont need another option in rotation. S-tier Leona cosmetic for mech fans specifically.
