First time I saw Major Ziggs in a loading screen I thought someone was running a custom skin. Military Ziggs with the helmet and everything. Looked like something out of a war movie parody, which honestly fits his whole vibe perfectly. Been a Ziggs player on and off since season 3 and this one always stuck out to me as underrated.
What the skin actually changes
Real talk though, this is a Standard tier skin at 975 RP so temper your expectations. Major Ziggs swaps the default look for a full military getup. Green army helmet, camo-style outfit, and his bombs get that olive drab military aesthetic. The model changes are solid for the price point. Ziggs looks like he’s ready to call in an airstrike instead of just lobbing random explosives around the Rift.
No new VFX here. Base voice lines, no changes. His Q still looks like default, same with the W and E mines. The ult doesnt get a visual overhaul either. For a 975 skin released back in early 2012 thats pretty standard. Riot wasnt exactly handing out particle updates at that price back then. The model work carries the skin on its own though. Playing this in lane, the silhouette reads differently enough that it feels fresh when you’re spamming Q poke in mid.
Not sure if it’s just me but the auto attack animation feels slightly different with the military bombs. Could be placebo, probably is, but after like 40 games with this skin last season I swear the cs rhythm felt off for the first few matches. Adjusted after a week.
The Legacy factor and release context
Major Ziggs dropped February 1, 2012. Early season 2. That puts this skin in ancient territory for League standards. The game looked completely different back then. Sits in the vault as a Legacy catalog skin, so you cant just grab it whenever you want. You either need to wait for a Legacy sale event or roll it from Hextech crafting.
Part of the Legacy skinline, which isnt really a thematic line so much as Riot’s way of cycling older skins out of the permanent shop. The military theme doesnt connect to any other champion skins in a meaningful way. Major Ziggs just exists on its own. Solo queue staple for the rare Ziggs one-trick who wants something different from Mad Scientist or Pool Party.
(Random aside: I keep this skin in my rotation specifically because nobody expects the Ziggs pick in Diamond and nobody recognizes this skin when it shows up. Had a Yasuo last Tuesday ask me in all chat what skin that was mid-teamfight.)
Should you pick up Major Ziggs?
Straight talk: 975 RP is fair for what you get, but the catch is availability. Legacy vault skin means you’re at Riot’s mercy for when it comes back around. If you spot it during a vault opening event or get lucky with a reroll, grab it. The military theme on Ziggs works better than it has any right to. Kinda feels like Riot stumbled into a good concept here without overthinking it.
For Ziggs mains specifically, this competes with Mad Scientist and Snow Day in the budget range. I think Major Ziggs edges out Mad Scientist purely on the model quality, but Snow Day has actual VFX changes so thats a tougher call. If you’re climbing with Ziggs and want something that stands out in the loading screen without dropping 1350 on Master Arcanist, Major Ziggs is a clean pick. Not the best Ziggs skin full stop, but a respectable one that most players have never seen. Might be overthinking it but the scarcity factor alone makes it worth locking in when you get the chance. Voice pack is base only, no new recall animation, just a good model swap with personality. Skip it if you need flashy particles, keep it if you appreciate the aesthetic.
