Leopard Nidalee

Kinda feels like this skin gets overlooked constantly and I dont really get why. Leopard Nidalee dropped way back on February 24, 2010, back when League was still figuring itself out as a game. Played maybe 40 games with this one last season in Diamond and the leopard print cougar form still turns heads in the loading screen. Old school cool.

What Leopard Nidalee actually brings

So this is a Standard tier skin at 520 RP. You get a full model swap for both human and cougar form. Nidalee rocks the leopard-print outfit in human form, and cougar form gets the matching spotted fur pattern. No new VFX on Q spears or W pounce or anything like that. Base voice lines, no changes. The auto attacks feel identical, the E heal looks the same. Standard fare for a skin from this era.

Not gonna lie, the appeal here is purely aesthetic. The leopard pattern on cougar form reads really clean on the Rift, especially in river fights around dragon pit. Had a game last Wednesday where I was splitpushing top and my ADC pinged the skin asking what it was. That’s how rare this thing is in actual games.

The human form model holds up okay for a 2010 skin. Nidalee’s spear and general silhouette look decent, though obviously you can tell the polygon count is from a different generation. The cougar pounce animation with the leopard spots just works. Simple change – huge impact on the fantasy of playing a shapeshifter jungle pick.

The Legacy factor and release history

Jon ‘DrPh8’ Buran and Jessica ‘OwleyCat’ Oyhenart handled the artwork. For a splash from early 2010 it captures the vibe well enough.

Here’s the thing about Leopard Nidalee. It sits in the Legacy vault, meaning you cant just walk into the shop and grab it. You either need to roll it from Hextech chests or wait for one of those rare Legacy vault openings Riot does maybe once a year. Been maining Nidalee with this skin off and on since season 9 I think, and every time someone asks about it in post-game chat theres this moment of “wait that skin exists?”

The Legacy skinline tag is basically Riot’s way of saying this is a collector’s piece now. 520 RP if the vault ever opens, which is dirt cheap. (Random aside: my buddy who one-tricks Nidalee jungle has been trying to get this from rerolls for two years straight and still hasn’t hit it.)

Should you chase Leopard Nidalee?

Real verdict: this is a nostalgia pick and a flex for Nidalee mains who want something different in their rotation. Could be wrong here but I think most people sleep on the older cheap skins because they assume no new particles means no value. Fair point for some champs but Nidalee’s cougar form carries skins harder than most because you spend half your gameplay time in it.

Skip this if you need flashy VFX on your spear tosses pre-6 or want a new recall animation. The skin doesnt compete with Headhunter or Dawnbringer Nidalee on a feature-by-feature basis. But for 520 RP from a vault rotation? Worth it if you main Nidalee. The leopard fantasy fits her kit better than half her more expensive options. Seen maybe 5 of these across all my Diamond games this season. Rare skin energy. If it drops from a chest, keep it.
