Jaximus

First time I saw Jaximus in a loading screen I thought somebody modded a gladiator into League. Big arena energy. Jax already has this brawler identity baked into his kit, and Jaximus leans all the way into it. Not gonna lie, the skin hit different back when I first picked it up around season 3. Still does in some ways.

What Jaximus actually brings to the table

So the main draw here is the model rework. Jax goes from lamp post warrior to full Roman gladiator. He’s got the helmet, the armor plating, and a real weapon for once. Well, real-ish. The weapon swap alone justifies the look because it changes the silhouette enough that you notice it in lane. Played maybe 200 games with this skin across multiple seasons and the auto attack animations feel clean with the new weapon model.

The VFX got some love too. His Q leap and W empowered strike have tweaked particles that lean into the combat arena theme. Nothing crazy, this is a 975 RP Standard tier skin after all, but the subtle glow on the W proc reads nicely in teamfights. Counter Strike still looks solid. Could be wrong here but I think the E stun visual pops a bit more than base, or maybe thats just the contrast against the darker armor model.

Voice lines stay base. Erik Braa’s Jax voice works fine with the gladiator aesthetic though. The “imagine if I had a real weapon” line hits harder when he’s actually holding something that looks like it belongs in an arena. No new recall animation either, standard for skins from this era.

The Legacy line and release context

Jaximus released May 10, 2011. Season 1 energy. Herbie Wang and Kudos Productions handled the artwork, and they nailed the splash for what it is. The composition is straightforward: Jax in the arena, ready to fight. No flashy background explosions or cosmic nonsense. Just a gladiator.

Part of the Legacy skinline which means this sits in the vault. Legacy vault skin, so you cant just walk into the shop and grab it whenever. You either wait for a vault opening event or roll it from Hextech crafting. Seen maybe 3 of these in my Diamond games all season, which honestly adds to the appeal. When you lock in Jaximus people know you’ve been around.

(Random aside: this skin apparently had a connection to a Make-A-Wish story back in the day, which makes it one of those skins with actual history behind it beyond just cosmetics.)

Is 975 RP fair for Jaximus?

Real verdict: 975 RP feels fair for what you get. The model is clean, the VFX tweaks exist even if they’re minor, and the gladiator fantasy works perfectly for Jax’s kit identity. You’re paying for a thematic home run more than a technical showcase. No chromas available, which is expected for a skin from 2011.

Compared to something like God Staff Jax or Mecha Kingdoms Jax, sure, Jaximus is simpler. Way simpler. But simplicity isnt always bad. Been maining Jax with this skin on and off since season 9 I think or 10 dont remember, and it never feels dated the way some older skins do. The gladiator look is timeless. Last Tuesday around 2 AM I was splitpushing top with this skin on and the enemy Darius all-chatted asking where I got it. That kind of reaction is worth something.

If you one-trick Jax and you see this pop up in a vault event or you roll it from a chest, keep it. Skip rerolling. For Jax mains specifically this is a top pick alongside the flashier options. Might be overthinking it but there’s something about running a rare legacy skin that makes the champion feel more personal in solo queue. Worth 975 RP if you main Jax. Simple change – huge impact on the champion fantasy.
