First time I saw Iron Solari Leona in loading screen back in season 2, I thought Riot finally gave Leona the skin she deserved. Not sure if it’s just me but there’s something about the golden armor redesign that hits harder than her base look. Been maining Leona on and off since season 3, and this skin stayed in my rotation longer than most 975 RP options have any right to.

What the skin actually changes

Iron Solari Leona swaps out the default red and silver armor for this warm gold and white plate set. The shield gets a full redesign. Solar motif across every piece of the kit. The whole silhouette reads cleaner in lane, which matters when you’re trying to bait engages bot side.

New VFX on this one. The W shield pulse has this bright golden burst that feels more impactful than base Leona. Her E, Zenith Blade, trails with a warmer light. Played maybe 150 games with this skin last season and the Q proc animation always felt satisfying to land in trades. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but honestly Wendee Lee’s original performance still holds up. No new recall animation either, standard back.

Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack animation feels slightly smoother with this model. Probably placebo. Either way the gold particles on her passive proc look clean against the Rift, especially during dragon teamfights where everything gets chaotic. (Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play with me unless I use this skin because he says the gold makes my engages easier to follow.)

The Legacy line and who made it

Released February 10, 2012. Early season 2. Michael ‘IronStylus’ Maurino nailed the splash. Thats actually fitting because IronStylus was famously the biggest Leona advocate at Riot, pushed hard for the champion’s creation. The splash captures this divine warrior energy that the in-game model delivers on.

Part of the Legacy skinline. Shop has it, permanent availability at 975 RP. For a Standard tier skin from 2012, it holds up better than most of its era. A lot of skins from that year look rough by modern standards but Iron Solari Leona aged well because the design concept is strong.

No chromas on this one. Clean single version. Kinda feels like Riot could revisit it with a chroma pack but the gold and white color scheme already does the heavy lifting. Zero chromas means what you see is what you get.

Should you pick up Iron Solari Leona?

Real verdict: 975 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX updates carry the skin past what you’d expect at this price point. Last Tuesday I was peeling for my ADC in a late-game teamfight and the W burst looked almost Legendary-tier in the chaos. Overstatement maybe, but the point stands.

If you’re climbing with Leona in ranked, this is a solid pickup. Not the flashiest option compared to Solar Eclipse or PROJECT Leona, but those cost significantly more. Iron Solari Leona is the budget pick that doesnt feel budget. Best value Leona skin if you’re not trying to drop 1820 on a support champion you rotate between comps.

Skip it only if you already own Eclipse. Otherwise, for Leona mains specifically, this belongs in your collection. Been coming back to this skin for years and I think it’ll stay relevant even as Riot keeps pushing out newer Leona options. 975 RP well spent for mains, real talk. Simple change from base, huge impact on how the champion feels to play.
