Played this skin maybe two weeks after it dropped in 2020 and my first thought was how clean the hook animation looked mid-teamfight. FPX Thresh carries that Worlds 2019 energy without being too loud about it. Not gonna lie, I wasnt expecting much from another esports skin but Thresh got one of the better executions in the FPX set.
What the FPX treatment actually does to Thresh
The model swap puts Thresh in the black and red FPX jersey colors. Dark base with gold and red accents across his armor and lantern. Feels like a proper esports celebration skin without going overboard on particle effects.
VFX got reworked and this is where the 1350 RP price tag shows up. The Q hook trails red and gold particles, reads cleanly against the Rift background. Been running this in Diamond ranked and the hook visibility is honestly better than base Thresh for me. Might be overthinking it but the red trail against green grass just pops harder in lane.
W lantern has the FPX logo treatment. Subtle but noticeable when you throw it for peel in a chaotic teamfight. E flay particles carry the same red-gold theme. Nothing crazy for an Epic tier skin but consistent across the whole kit. Voice lines stay base, no new VO here. Mark Oliver’s original performance still holds up so thats fine.
The recall animation is the highlight for me. Thresh lifts the Summoner’s Cup, which is exactly what you want from a Worlds skin. Had a game last Thursday where I hit a predict hook on their Ezreal and immediately recalled to flex the trophy animation. My ADC pinged me alive for it. Worth.
The FPX line and where this skin sits
Released April 30, 2020. Season 10. The whole World Champions 2019 line came out together celebrating FunPlus Phoenix’s Worlds run. Pan Chengwei handled the artwork and they captured the vibe perfectly. The splash has Thresh holding the lantern with that championship energy, dark background with red lighting.
Legacy vault skin. You cant just grab this whenever you want. Gotta wait for the vault to rotate or get lucky with Hextech crafting. Seen maybe 5 of these in my games all season, which honestly makes it feel more special when you do lock it in.
Only 1 chroma available, the Elite variant. Goes black and deep red, darker than the base colorway. Kinda feels like they could have done more here. Most Worlds skins get minimal chroma treatment though so its par for the course. The Elite chroma reads a bit more aggressive than base if you’re into that edgier look.
Compared to the rest of the FPX lineup (Lee Sin, Vayne, Gangplank, Malphite), Thresh got a solid deal. FPX Thresh sits comfortably in the middle. Not the flashiest of the bunch but the hook VFX alone makes it worth considering for Thresh mains.
Should you pick up FPX Thresh?
Real verdict: at 1350 RP this Epic skin delivers what you’d expect. New VFX across Q/W/E, a solid recall with the Summoner’s Cup, and a clean model that doesn’t clutter your screen during engage. (Random aside: the splash is genuinely one of my favorite Thresh splashes, the lighting is insane.)
If you’re a Thresh one-trick who collects every skin, this one belongs in the rotation. The hook particles feel crisp for landing Q predictions in bot lane. Been maining Thresh with this during season 10 and kept coming back to it even after newer skins dropped.
Skip it if you already own Dark Star or Pulsefire though. Those Legendary skins give you way more for the price. But if you want something understated that still looks premium in loading screen, FPX Thresh is a fair price for the package. The Legacy availability means you might need to wait for a vault opening or roll it from chests. Could be wrong here but I think it showed up during the last Worlds event shop around October 2024. Keep an eye out next time Worlds rolls around.
