Fables is one of those skinlines that most people dont even realize is a skinline. Honestly not gonna lie, I played League for three full seasons before I connected the dots that Musketeer Twisted Fate and Loch Ness Cho'Gath belonged to the same thematic family. The whole concept is folklore, mythology, fairy tales, classic stories ripped from books and slapped onto champions. No shared VFX. No matching color palette. No coordinated splash art. Just vibes. And somehow that looseness is exactly what makes Fables work as a collection, even if Riot never really marketed it as one. These are the skins you owned before you knew what a skinline was.

What Sets the Fables Line Apart

Not sure if it's just me but Fables feels like the anti-skinline. Every other thematic in League has a unified visual identity. Star Guardian has the pastel sparkles. Dark Star has the cosmic purple void energy. Project has chrome and neon. Fables has... stories. That's it. Each skin pulls from a different myth or legend and the only thread connecting them is that they all reference something you might have read in a book or heard around a campfire.

Musketeer Twisted Fate channels Alexandre Dumas. Sasquatch Nunu & Willump goes Pacific Northwest cryptid. Ghost Bride Morgana pulls from La Llorona. Loch Ness Cho'Gath is literally the Scottish lake monster. Perseus Pantheon is Greek mythology. Valkyrie Leona is Norse. The range is wild.

Visually there's zero cohesion and I think thats the charm. You're not buying into an aesthetic system. You're buying a costume that tells a specific story for a specific champion. Back in 2009 through 2014 when these dropped, Riot wasn't thinking about skinline ecosystems or event passes. They were just making cool individual skins. One at a time. No bundles, no prestige editions, no mythic essence gates.

(Random aside: I genuinely miss this era of skin design where each one felt like its own thing instead of a product line.)

The splash arts reflect that independence too. Each Fables skin has its own world inside the splash. Ghost Bride Morgana sits in this haunted cathedral setting. Loch Ness Cho'Gath emerges from foggy Scottish waters. There's no group splash, no shared background. Could be wrong here but I think that actually helps each skin feel more special. When you load into a game with Djinn Malzahar, it reads as "that's the genie Malzahar skin" not "that's the Fables Malzahar skin." The fantasy is individual.

Best Fables Skins Worth Your RP

Ghost Bride Morgana. Full stop. Been running this skin in ranked since season 4 and it still holds up. The spectral wedding dress, the eerie green tinting on her wings, the whole La Llorona reference. For 975 RP back when it released in 2013 this was a steal, and honestly it competes with some of her newer options. Played maybe 60 games with it last month in Diamond and I still get comments in lobby. Base voice lines, no new VO, but the model work carries hard enough.

Musketeer Twisted Fate is the other standout. The hat. The rapier replacing his cards in the splash. The whole Three Musketeers energy. TF mains I've talked to in solo queue swear by this one over most of his catalog, and he has like 15 skins. Something about the swashbuckler aesthetic just fits his kit. You're throwing cards and looking dashing doing it. 975 RP well spent for mains.

Dark Valkyrie Diana surprised me. Picked it up on a whim during a sale back in 2013 I think, and the dark armor aesthetic with the Norse mythological angle works way better on Diana than you'd expect. Her kit already has the crescent blade lunar warrior thing going, so leaning into Valkyrie territory feels natural. Not forced at all.

Loch Ness Cho'Gath is the meme pick but hear me out. It's genuinely funny to be this massive lake monster eating people in teamfights. The novelty factor is real. Been spamming this in normals with friends and it never gets old watching a fully stacked Cho'Gath Rift monster emerge from river. 975 RP for the comedy value alone.

River Spirit Nami rounds out my top five. The water spirit aesthetic maps perfectly onto Nami's kit. Kinda feels like this is what Nami would look like if she was designed around Southeast Asian river mythology instead of generic ocean mermaid. Clean skin. 975 RP, standard pricing, above-average skin.

The Champion Roster

14 skins across 13 champions. Cassiopeia actually got two Fables skins which is interesting. Siren Cassiopeia and Mythic Cassiopeia both pull from Greek mythology. Siren is the obvious one, half-snake woman luring sailors. Mythic leans more into the Medusa angle. Fair warning, neither has aged particularly well model-wise but they're cheap at 520 RP each so expectations should match the price.

The roster reads like early League's champion pool. Twisted Fate, Cho'Gath, Morgana, Veigar, Sona. These were the champs getting skins in 2009-2012. Real talk though, some of these fits are perfect and some feel random. Leprechaun Veigar? Sure, tiny angry mage as an Irish fairy creature works. Perseus Pantheon? Greek hero with a shield and spear, that's literally Pantheon's whole identity. Makes sense.

But Muse Sona feels thin. Yeah Sona plays music and muses inspire art. I get the connection. Just doesnt land as hard as Ghost Bride Morgana or Loch Ness Cho'Gath where the reference is immediately obvious and fun. Royal Guard Fiora works better. French fencer as a royal guard, very Dumas, very old-school European.

(Sidebar for Diana and Leona mains specifically: both of them got Fables skins and I think thats cool given their lore rivalry. Dark Valkyrie Diana and Valkyrie Leona, opposite sides of the same Norse mythology coin.)

Who should Riot add next? Nobody. Honestly. This skinline belongs to 2009-2014 League and bringing it back would feel forced. Let Fables stay as a time capsule. The charm is in its era.

Tier and Pricing Breakdown

Every single Fables skin is Standard tier. All 14 of them. No Epics. No Legendaries. No Ultimates. This is a skinline from the era when 975 RP was the premium price point and 520 RP skins were genuinely common in the shop.

Price range runs 520 to 975 RP. The 520 RP skins are mostly texture swaps. Siren Cassiopeia, Mythic Cassiopeia, Sasquatch Nunu & Willump. Model changes are minimal, no new particles, no new VO. You're paying for a color palette shift and maybe a hat. That's it.

The 975 RP skins get more. Ghost Bride Morgana has a noticeably different model silhouette. Musketeer TF has the full outfit change. These feel like what we'd call 750 RP skins by today's standards but they were priced at the premium end back when they released. Season 3 and 4 pricing was a different world.

Might be overthinking it but I think the all-Standard roster is actually a selling point. No FOMO. No mythic essence grind. No event pass required. You see one you like, you buy it for under 1000 RP, done. Last Tuesday I grabbed Djinn Malzahar for 520 RP during a sale and felt nothing but satisfaction. Simple transaction. No battle pass anxiety. The way skin buying used to feel before the loot system complicated everything.

No chromas exist for any Fables skin either. What you see is what you get. For skins in this price range thats expected and honestly fine.

Fables Skinline FAQ

How many Fables skins are there?

14 skins total in the Fables line. All Standard tier, priced between 520 and 975 RP. The roster covers 13 champions since Cassiopeia has two entries, Siren and Mythic. Been collecting these since I started playing in season 3 and the full set costs less than one Legendary skin honestly.

What is the best Fables skin?

Ghost Bride Morgana. Not close. The La Llorona reference, the spectral wedding dress, the eerie model work. At 975 RP its the best value in the whole line. Musketeer Twisted Fate is second. TF mains love it for good reason, the swashbuckler aesthetic just fits his card-throwing kit perfectly.

Which champions have Fables skins?

Twisted Fate, Nunu & Willump, Morgana, Cho'Gath, Sona, Veigar, Cassiopeia (two skins), Pantheon, Leona, Malzahar, Fiora, Diana, and Nami. 13 champions across 14 skins. Heavy on the original League roster since these all dropped between 2009 and 2014.

Does Fables have Legendary skins?

No. Every Fables skin is Standard tier. No Legendaries, no Epics, nothing above 975 RP. This line predates the modern tier system where Legendaries and Ultimates became the flagship releases. The highest price point is 975 RP which was the premium tier back in early seasons.

When did the Fables skinline release?

First Fables skin dropped in 2009 and the last one came in 2014. Five years of releases spread across early League history. Most of these landed in seasons 1 through 4. Riot hasn't added to the line since, and I dont think they plan to. Its a product of its era.

Are Fables skins worth buying?

Depends which ones. Ghost Bride Morgana and Musketeer TF are worth it even today. The cheaper 520 RP options like Siren Cassiopeia are basically texture swaps and only worth grabbing if you main the champion and want variety. At these prices though theres low risk. You're never spending more than 975 RP.

Do Fables skins have chromas?

No chromas for any Fables skin. These all released before Riot introduced the chroma system in 2015. What you see in the splash is what you get in game. No color variants, no bundles. Keeps things simple which I kinda appreciate after dealing with 12-chroma Epic skins in modern releases.

Will Riot make more Fables skins?

Extremely unlikely. The last Fables skin released in 2014 and Riot hasn't touched the line in over a decade. Modern skinlines get coordinated event launches with multiple tiers and prestige variants. Fables doesn't fit that model. Could be wrong but I think this one stays retired. Let it rest in peace.
