Dragonmancers Skins

Dragonmancers might be the one skinline where Riot actually went all-in on the fantasy aesthetic and didnt hold back. Been seeing these skins pop up in my ranked games since 2020, and the line keeps growing. 18 skins across 14 champions at this point, mixing Eastern dragon mythology with high-fantasy energy that just works on the Rift. Not every skin in the set hits the same, but the ones that do? Absolute bangers. The color palettes alone set this line apart from most of what Riot puts out, and I think the Legendary tier entries here are some of the best in the entire game.

What Makes Dragonmancers Stand Out

The visual identity of this line is tight. Every Dragonmancer skin shares this flowing energy motif, like the champions are channeling raw dragon power through their abilities. You get these signature swirling particle effects in gold, blue, or purple depending on which "dragon" variant the skin falls under. Storm, Truth, Dream, Eternal, Fae. Each sub-theme carries its own palette but they all read as part of the same universe.

Splash arts across the line share a consistent composition style. Dark backgrounds with intense light sources coming from the dragon energy itself. Not gonna lie, some of the best splash work Riot has commissioned lives in this skinline. The level of detail in the dragon forms behind each champion is wild.

What ties the whole thing together is the VFX language. Kinda feels like every ability gets this layered particle treatment where you see the base spell shape wrapped in dragon energy. On the Legendary skins this goes even further with unique animations and recalls, but even the Epic tier entries get solid VFX passes. Compare that to something like Marauder or Warden where the Epics feel phoned in. Dragonmancers Epics actually justify the 1350 RP tag.

(Random aside: I used to think Immortal Journey was the best Eastern-themed line, but Dragonmancers passed it around 2022 for me.)

The color work deserves its own mention. Storm variants lean into electric blues and whites. Truth Dragon goes crimson and gold. Dream Dragon hits these ethereal purples. Obsidian runs dark with orange accents. Every variant feels distinct while still being recognizably Dragonmancer. Thats rare for a line this big.

Best Dragonmancers Skins

Storm Dragon Lee Sin. Full stop. This Legendary dropped in 2020 and it still holds up as one of the cleanest skins in the game four years later. The Q animation alone - that dragon spiraling toward the target - changed how Lee Sin feels to play. Been spamming this in Diamond and the auto-attack resets feel smoother with this skin's animations. Could be placebo but I dont care.

His ult sends targets flying with a full dragon impact VFX that reads perfectly in teamfights. New voice lines, new walk animation, everything. 1820 RP well spent for Lee Sin mains. If you one-trick Lee and you dont own this skin, I genuinely dont understand what you're doing.

Truth Dragon Yasuo and Dream Dragon Yasuo are interesting because they're two Legendaries for the same champion in the same line. Truth goes hard red and aggressive, Dream goes soft purple and fluid. Played maybe 80 games with each back in season 12 when they dropped. Truth feels better for the wind wall and Q animations specifically. Dream has the superior recall and ult VFX. Both are S-tier Yasuo skins but if I had to pick one? Truth. The Q tornado in crimson just hits different in lane.

Obsidian Dragon Sett is the Epic that punches way above its weight class. Real talk though, the W true damage cone in dark obsidian energy looks menacing. Sett's kit translates perfectly to the dragon theme because everything he does is about raw power. Locked in this skin for an entire month of ranked last season around November. The splash is phone wallpaper material too.

Eternal Dragon Brand rounds out my top picks. Fire champion plus dragon theme is almost too obvious, but Riot executed it clean. His passive burn marks look incredible with the dragon fire overlay. Good luck tracking Brand's passive stacks in a teamfight when every tick looks like a mini dragon breath. Might be overthinking it but I think Brand players actually get a slight advantage because enemies lose the visual read on his combo sequencing.

Champion Roster and Thematic Fit

14 champions in the Dragonmancer universe. Some fit naturally. Some feel like Riot threw darts at a board.

Lee Sin is the poster child for a reason. Martial arts champion channeling dragon energy? Writes itself. Yasuo works for similar reasons. The wandering swordsman archetype maps perfectly onto Eastern dragon mythology. Aurelion Sol is literally a space dragon so putting him in a dragon skinline is almost cheating, but Storm Dragon Aurelion Sol still looks great. The irony isnt lost on anyone.

Sett fits because his brawler identity translates well into "guy who punches with dragon fists." Volibear works too. Giant bear god infused with duality dragon power reads well on the Rift. His Prestige version goes even harder with the white and gold colorway.

Not sure if it's just me but Kassadin feels like an odd pick. The void walker aesthetic clashes with dragon mythology in a way that the skin has to work overtime to justify. It's not bad, but it's not cohesive either. Vayne is similar. Crossbow user plus dragons? The skin itself turned out fine but the thematic connection is thin.

(Sidebar: champions I think should get Dragonmancer skins - Xin Zhao, Wukong, Jarvan IV. All martial arts or Eastern-coded champions that would slot in perfectly. Riot if you're reading this, Dragonmancer Wukong is free money.)

Karma got the Tranquility Dragon treatment which fits her meditative energy. Rakan works because his dash-heavy kit looks incredible with dragon trail VFX. Thresh and Kai'Sa are serviceable additions. Fiora is decent. 14 champions and I'd say 9 or 10 of them genuinely belong in this skinline, which is a better hit rate than most Riot lines this size.

Tier Breakdown and Pricing

The distribution here tells you something about how Riot views this line. 12 Epics at 1350 RP, 3 Legendaries at 1820 RP, and 3 Mythic tier Prestige editions. No Standard or budget options. Riot positioned Dragonmancers as a premium line from day one.

The Legendaries carry this skinline hard. Storm Dragon Lee Sin, Truth Dragon Yasuo, and Dream Dragon Yasuo are all top-tier purchases. But the Epics dont slack either. Obsidian Dragon Sett, Eternal Dragon Brand, and Lagoon Dragon Kai'Sa all deliver solid value at 1350.

Price range runs 1350 to 1820 RP for purchasable skins. The Prestige editions - Duality Dragon Volibear, Dragonmancer Rakan, and Prestige Obsidian Dragon Sett - require event tokens or Mythic Essence. Fair warning, if you missed the events you're waiting on Mythic shop rotations. Maybe just my experience but I've seen Prestige Volibear come through the rotation once in the past year. Keep your ME ready.

For the money, Dragonmancers sits in that premium-but-justified category. You're not getting ripped off at any tier. The Epics deliver 1350 RP value, the Legendaries deliver 1820 RP value. Straightforward. No bait-and-switch where the splash looks amazing but the in-game model disappoints. Played enough of these skins to confirm that in game at 2 AM on a Tuesday night, they look as good as the previews suggest.

One thing worth noting: the line launched in 2020 and Riot kept adding to it through 2024. Four years of releases means the production quality actually improved across waves. The 2022-2024 entries have slightly sharper VFX than the 2020 originals. Not a huge gap, but noticeable if you own skins from both eras.

Dragonmancers FAQ

How many Dragonmancers skins are there?

18 Dragonmancer skins total as of 2024. That covers 14 different champions across Epic, Legendary, and Mythic tiers. Riot's been adding to the line since 2020, dropping new batches every year or so. Been tracking this since the first wave and honestly the roster grew faster than I expected. Wouldn't be surprised if they hit 20+ by end of next season.

What is the best Dragonmancers skin?

Storm Dragon Lee Sin. Not close. The Legendary treatment gave Lee Sin completely new animations, VFX, voice lines, and a recall that still looks fresh years later. Grinded ranked with this skin for three seasons straight. Truth Dragon Yasuo is second place. If you dont play Lee Sin, Obsidian Dragon Sett is the best Epic in the line.

Which champions have Dragonmancers skins?

14 champions: Lee Sin, Yasuo, Sett, Volibear, Brand, Ashe, Kassadin, Karma, Vayne, Fiora, Aurelion Sol, Kai'Sa, Thresh, and Rakan. Lee Sin and Yasuo got the most love with Legendary skins. Sett, Volibear, and Rakan each have Prestige editions on top of their base Dragonmancer skins. Solid roster overall.

Does Dragonmancers have Legendary skins?

Three Legendaries. Storm Dragon Lee Sin at 1820 RP was the first, then Truth Dragon Yasuo and Dream Dragon Yasuo followed. All three are high quality with new animations, voice lines, and VFX overhauls. Honestly the Legendary tier is where Dragonmancers peaks. Had this in rotation for months and the Lee Sin Legendary still feels top five in the game for me.

When did the Dragonmancers skinline release?

First wave dropped in 2020 with Storm Dragon Lee Sin leading the charge. Riot kept expanding the line through 2021, 2022, and into 2024 with new champion additions each wave. Four years of releases is a long run for a non-event skinline. Kinda feels like Riot sees real money in the dragon aesthetic and I cant blame them.

Are Dragonmancers skins worth buying?

Depends on the tier. The Legendaries are absolutely worth 1820 RP if you play those champions. The Epics at 1350 RP are solid buys across the board, none of them feel like filler. Skip the Prestige editions unless you already had the tokens or Mythic Essence lying around. Not worth grinding an event just for a gold chroma essentially. Spammed most of these in ranked and zero regrets on the purchases.

Do Dragonmancers skins have chromas?

Several of the Epic tier skins have chromas available. The exact count varies per skin but most of the 1350 RP entries got at least a few color variants. Legendaries typically dont get chromas in this line since they already have extensive VFX work. Check each skin's store page individually because chroma availability changes with vault rotations and event shops.

Will Riot make more Dragonmancers skins?

Could be wrong here but I think yes. The line has had consistent releases from 2020 through 2024, which means Riot sees it performing well commercially. Four years of additions is a strong signal. Champions like Wukong, Xin Zhao, and Jarvan IV are obvious fits that havent been tapped yet. My bet is at least one more wave by season 15 if not sooner.
