Tahm Kench

Tahm Kench Skins

7 skins available

Tahm Kench has one of the more underrated skin catalogs in League. Seven skins total and not a single Legendary in the bunch, which honestly feels criminal for a champion with this much personality. Been playing him on and off since his release in 2015, mostly as support but I've taken him top lane plenty of times too. His kit translates well to different skin fantasies because the animations are so exaggerated and theatrical. Big tongue, big presence. Not gonna lie, some of these skins absolutely slap for 1350 RP, and a couple punch way above what you'd expect from a champion that Riot seems to forget exists half the time.

The Full Tahm Kench Skin Catalog

Seven skins spanning from 2015 to 2023. That's about one skin per year if you average it out, which is pretty standard for a champion who isn't exactly selling like hotcakes compared to Lux or Ezreal. The breakdown is two Standard tier skins and five Epics. No Legendary. No Ultimate. No Mythic or Prestige either. Kinda feels like Riot just doesnt see the revenue potential here, which is a shame because Tahm Kench's model is incredibly fun to work with.

Master Chef Tahm Kench dropped alongside his champion release back in 2015. Classic move from Riot, giving a new champion a launch skin that plays into the obvious food theme. Then Urf Kench came along as the meme pick. After that Riot actually started putting real effort into his catalog with Coin Emperor, Arcana, High Noon, Shan Hai Scrolls, and Choncc Kench rounding things out.

The pace picked up from 2020 onwards. Three of his five Epic skins came after his mini-rework when they shifted his W and R around. Makes sense. The rework gave him more visibility in pro play and solo queue for a while, and Riot follows the money. (Random aside: I remember the patch where reworked Tahm was absolutely broken top lane and everyone suddenly needed skins for him.)

What stands out about the catalog is consistency. No real duds in the lineup. Even the cheaper skins have charm to them. Could be wrong here but I think Tahm might have one of the highest floor-to-ceiling ratios in terms of skin quality for any champion with fewer than ten skins. Every single one changes the vibe enough to feel distinct when you lock in.

Best Skins for Tahm Kench

Coin Emperor Tahm Kench is the one. Released during Lunar Revel 2020 and it completely transformed how he reads on the Rift. The gold and red palette hits hard. His Q tongue lash comes out looking like a golden ribbon, his W devour animation has this satisfying crunch to it with coin particles scattering everywhere. The recall where he sits on a pile of gold? Perfect characterization. Been running this in ranked since season 10 and I still havent found a reason to switch off it for more than a game or two.

Arcana Tahm Kench fights for that top spot though. Real talk. The tarot card aesthetic works so well with his gambler energy. His whole kit is about making deals and devouring people, and the Arcana theme leans into that mystical trickster angle. The E thick skin shield has these gorgeous card-like VFX swirling around him. Played maybe 30 games with it the week it dropped and the visual clarity on his abilities is actually better than base in some teamfights.

High Noon Tahm Kench goes a completely different direction. Western demon catfish. Sounds ridiculous. Works perfectly. The splash art alone sells it, this massive toad-demon sitting at a poker table in some dusty saloon. His W devour in this skin feels menacing in a way the other skins dont quite capture. The audio design on his abilities has this gritty undertone. Not sure if it's just me but the auto attack sounds feel heavier too.

Shan Hai Scrolls Tahm Kench is the newest one, 2023. Chinese mythology inspired with the ink painting aesthetic. Beautiful skin. The Q lash leaves these ink trail particles and his ult channel has scrollwork unfurling beneath him. It's the most visually polished of the bunch technically speaking. In my Diamond games last season I saw maybe two other people using it. Criminally underplayed.

Choncc Kench deserves mention too. TFT crossover skin based on the little Choncc companion. Pure comedy pick. The recall animation alone is worth it if you want to tilt your lane opponent with how unbothered you look. Locked this in during a late night ranked session around 1 AM and my duo couldn't stop laughing at the waddle animation.

Skinlines and Themes That Fit Tahm Kench

Tahm shows up in seven different skinlines: Culinary Masters, Urf, Lunar Revel, Arcana, High Noon, Shan Hai Scrolls, and Superfans. Decent variety for a champion with only seven skins. No repeats, no filler.

The skinlines that work best for him lean into his con artist and predator fantasy. Arcana nails this. The whole tarot fortune-teller thing maps directly onto a champion whose lore is literally about making Faustian bargains. High Noon does something similar but through a Western lens. Demon gambler energy. Both of these feel like Riot actually read his lore before designing them.

Lunar Revel with Coin Emperor is the other standout thematic fit. Tahm Kench's greed and appetite translate naturally into the prosperity god aesthetic. Gold everywhere. Coins spilling out of his mouth. Might be overthinking it but there's something poetic about a champion who devours everything being dressed up as a symbol of wealth and abundance.

Shan Hai Scrolls works on pure visual merit. The ink painting style gives him an elegant quality that contrasts with his grotesque base design. Good contrast. Culinary Masters with Master Chef is the obvious food joke, tongue plus cooking equals easy thematic win. Urf Kench is the obligatory meme skin and honestly it aged okay. The Superfans line with Choncc Kench is the newest direction, crossover territory, and it suits his playful side.

What I notice is Riot hasnt put him in any of the serious grimdark lines yet. No Coven Tahm Kench. No Dark Star. (Sidebar: a Coven Tahm Kench where he's some kind of eldritch swamp deity would absolutely print money and I will die on that hill.) The champion's design has so much potential for horror-adjacent skinlines that Riot just hasn't explored. Season 14 gave us nothing new for him. Hoping 2025 changes that.

Budget vs Premium Picks

Here's the thing with Tahm Kench skins. The price range runs from 750 RP for the Standard skins up to 1350 RP for Epics. No Legendary option exists. So your ceiling is 1350 regardless and that makes the "budget vs premium" conversation pretty compressed compared to champions who have 3250 RP Ultimate skins sitting at the top.

Master Chef Tahm Kench at 750 RP is the budget king. Solid model changes, the chef hat is iconic, and for the price it's genuinely good. Urf Kench sits in the same Standard tier range. Both are fine skins that do the job if you're not trying to spend big.

But honestly? The jump to 1350 RP is worth it here. Coin Emperor or Arcana at 1350 give you new VFX on every ability, recall animations, sound design changes. The gap between 750 and 1350 is noticeable in game. Not even close. If you main Tahm and you're climbing ranked with him, spend the extra RP. Coin Emperor specifically gives you the most bang for your gold. 1350 well spent for mains.

Fair warning though. If you only play him occasionally as a counterpick in support, Master Chef at 750 is perfectly fine. No shame in the budget option. Save that RP for champions you actually spam in solo queue.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Tahm Kench have?

Seven skins total as of 2023. Two Standard tier and five Epic. No Legendary, no Ultimate, no Mythic. Decent number for a champion released in 2015 but you can tell Riot doesn't prioritize him the way they do the popular picks. Roughly one skin per year on average. Could be worse honestly, some champions wait two or three years between releases.

What is the best Tahm Kench skin?

Coin Emperor Tahm Kench. Top pick for mains. The gold VFX on every ability look clean, the recall animation is chef's kiss, and the Lunar Revel theme fits his greedy personality perfectly. Arcana comes close second. Been running Coin Emperor since season 10 in ranked and it still feels fresh. 1350 RP, earns every point.

What is the cheapest Tahm Kench skin?

Master Chef Tahm Kench at 750 RP. Standard tier skin that dropped with his champion release back in 2015. Gives you the chef hat model change and cooking themed visuals. Solid budget option if you dont want to drop 1350 on an Epic. Urf Kench is in the same price range. Both are fine for casual play.

Does Tahm Kench have a Legendary skin?

Nope. Zero Legendaries. His entire catalog caps at Epic tier (1350 RP). Feels like a missed opportunity given how much personality his voice lines have. A Legendary with new VO would be incredible for him. Maybe someday. Riot seems to save Legendary slots for the popular champions though, so I wouldnt hold my breath.

What skinlines is Tahm Kench in?

Seven skinlines total: Culinary Masters, Urf the Manatee, Lunar Revel, Arcana, High Noon, Shan Hai Scrolls, and Superfans. No repeats which is nice. Arcana and High Noon fit his fantasy the best in my opinion. The demon gambler angle works perfectly with his lore about making deals and devouring people.

Does Tahm Kench have chromas?

Several of his Epic skins come with chroma options. Coin Emperor, Arcana, and High Noon all have chroma sets available. Worth picking up if you find a color variant that clicks for you. The Obsidian chromas tend to look cleanest on his model since the dark tones contrast well with his ability VFX. Check the individual skin pages for full chroma breakdowns.

When was Tahm Kench's last skin released?

Shan Hai Scrolls Tahm Kench in 2023. The ink painting aesthetic with scroll VFX. Gorgeous skin honestly. Been over a year since then with no new announcements. Hoping he gets something in 2025 but no guarantees. Riot's skin schedule is unpredictable for less popular champions.

Is Tahm Kench worth buying skins for?

If you main him or play him regularly in ranked, absolutely. Coin Emperor alone justifies the investment. His skins have solid quality across the board and the Epic tier ones all bring meaningful visual changes to his kit. If you only pull him out once every 50 games as a support counterpick, maybe just grab Master Chef at 750 and call it a day.
