Leona Skins
17 skins availableLeona has one of the most stacked skin catalogs for a support champion. Full stop. Been playing her since season 3, locked her in through every meta shift from tank support to roam-heavy engage, and Riot has consistently given her quality over quantity. 17 skins total, three Legendaries, three Mythic-tier options. For a champion that most people associate with "press R and pray your ADC follows up," that's a seriously loaded wardrobe. Not sure if it's just me but I think she might have the best support skin collection in the game right now.

How Leona's Skin Collection Grew Over the Years
Leona dropped in 2011 with Valkyrie and Defender as her launch skins. Both are Standard tier, both show their age. Defender Leona especially looks like it belongs in a different game at this point. The textures are muddy, the shield model is basic, and honestly the splash does all the heavy lifting. But thats how it was back then. Every champion got these 520-750 RP basics that were basically recolors with maybe a new helmet.
Iron Solari came next and that one still holds up surprisingly well. Simple concept, clean execution. Then Pool Party Leona hit in 2015 and became an instant classic. Riot figured out the formula early with Leona: give her a strong thematic, lean into the shield and sword silhouette, let the splash artist cook.
The real turning point was 2018. Solar Eclipse and Lunar Eclipse Leona dropped as a dual Legendary release. Two skins, same patch, same champion. Riot basically said "Leona mains, here's your endgame." And they were right. Those two skins dominated the support skin conversation for years. The Eclipse line fit Leona's solar fantasy so perfectly it felt like cheating.
From there she kept getting consistent releases. PROJECT in 2017 (solid Epic), Barbecue in 2018 (fun meme skin), Mecha Kingdoms in 2020, Battle Academia in 2021 with a Prestige variant. Then High Noon Leona in 2022 gave her a third Legendary. Three Legendaries on a support. Wild. Crystalis Motus and Battle Lion rounded things out in 2023 and 2024, bringing the total to 17. Could be wrong here but I think only Lux and Ezreal have more Legendaries proportionally for how many skins they have.
The tier breakdown tells a story too. 5 Standards from the early days, 6 Epics that form the solid middle, 3 Legendaries that are all genuinely good, and 3 Mythic options if you want the flex. No Ultimate skin yet, but honestly with what the Legendaries offer she doesnt need one.
Best Skins for Leona
Solar Eclipse Leona. Number one. Not even close for me. The dark armor, the corrupted sun motifs, the way her Q impact effect looks like a small solar flare going off. Been running this in Diamond for maybe 400 games across seasons 9 through 13 and it never gets old. The custom voice lines sell the power fantasy hard. "The sun sets on you" when you ult someone. Clean. The recall animation where she channels dark solar energy through her shield is probably the best support recall in the game.
Lunar Eclipse sits right behind it. Same quality, different aesthetic. The silver and blue palette reads beautifully on the Rift, especially at night map settings. Kinda feels like Riot designed both skins knowing players would argue about which one's better forever. The W shield effect on Lunar has this cold moonlight burst that I actually prefer over Solar's version. (Random aside: I swap between Solar and Lunar based on whether Im feeling aggressive or defensive that day, which makes zero logical sense but here we are.)
High Noon Leona surprised me. When they announced a third Legendary I thought Riot was pushing it. Three Legendaries on one support champion? But the Western sheriff theme works. Her E - Zenith Blade - turns into this lasso-style chain that looks gorgeous in teamfights. The ult drops a massive sun-branded sheriff's badge on the ground. Played maybe 60 games with it last season and the sound design alone justifies the 1820 RP. Every ability proc sounds like a six-shooter going off.
PROJECT: Leona deserves mention too. Solid Epic at 1350 RP that gave her the cyberpunk treatment before it was overdone. The visor, the holographic shield, the digital effects on her W. Still a strong pick if you want something techy without Legendary pricing. Had this in rotation for two seasons before Eclipse dropped.
Pool Party Leona is the fun pick. Parasol instead of shield, beach ball effects. Not gonna lie, something about stunning the enemy Draven with a beach umbrella in a Diamond ranked game hits different. The splash is iconic too. One of Riot's best thematic executions on the entire Pool Party line.
Skinlines and Where Leona Fits
Eclipse is obviously Leona's home skinline. Built for her. The entire Eclipse thematic revolves around celestial duality and Leona IS the sun champion. Having both Solar and Lunar variants means she owns that skinline harder than almost any other champion owns theirs. Maybe Jhin with PROJECT comes close but I dont think so.
Battle Academia was an interesting choice. Leona as a student council president type? It works better than it should. The skin itself is a solid Epic, and the Prestige Battle Academia variant adds the gold-white treatment that Mythic skins do well. Took this into ranked for a week when it released in 2021. The ability effects are crisp, the uniform design is clean. Fits her disciplined personality.
Mecha Kingdoms put her in a giant mech suit. Cool concept, decent execution, but I think the proportions feel slightly off compared to how Leona normally reads on screen. The shield is massive. Maybe just my experience but in teamfights the visual noise from Mecha Kingdoms Leona + any other Mecha skin gets overwhelming fast. Real talk though the splash art is gorgeous.
Culinary Masters gave us Barbecue Leona which is pure comedy. Apron, spatula, grilling theme. Not every skin needs to be serious and this one knows exactly what it is. (Sidebar for support mains specifically: nothing tilts the enemy bot lane harder than getting all-inned by a woman with a spatula.) The Fables skinline brought Debonair Leona in 2021, giving her a fancy suit-and-tie look that feels underrated. Rarely see it in my games.
Budget vs Premium Options
If you're climbing ranked and want a Leona skin without dropping 1820 RP, PROJECT: Leona at 1350 is the move. Best value Epic in her catalog. Custom particles on every ability, the tech aesthetic is sharp, and the price is standard Epic. Pool Party at 975 is solid too but showing its age on the VFX side.
Iron Solari Leona at 975 RP punches above its weight for the price. Simple changes but the golden armor reads clean and fits her lore perfectly. Could be coping but I think it still competes with some of her Epics.
On the premium end, you cant go wrong with any of the three Legendaries. Solar Eclipse if you want the definitive Leona experience. High Noon if you want something different. Lunar Eclipse if you prefer the cooler color palette. All three earn their 1820 RP price tag with custom VO, unique animations, and ability effects that transform how she feels to play.
The Mythic options - Prestige Battle Academia, Crystalis Motus, and Prestige Battle Lion - are for collectors. Can't buy them normally, need to roll them or wait for Mythic shop rotations. Nice to have, not essential. Standard pricing on her Epics gives you 90% of the experience at a fraction of the exclusivity tax.
For brand new Leona players just picking her up, honestly grab Iron Solari or wait for a sale on PROJECT. Both give you enough visual upgrade to feel good about locking in without committing Legendary money to a champion you might drop after a bad weekend of ranked. Been there. Season 11 I bought a Legendary for Thresh, played him for two weeks, went back to Leona. 1820 RP lesson learned.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many skins does Leona have?
Leona has 17 skins total as of 2024. That includes 5 Standard tier, 6 Epics, 3 Legendaries, and 3 Mythic options. Honestly a massive catalog for a support champion. Most supports are lucky to get half that. Riot clearly knows Leona sells and they keep delivering quality with each release.
What is the best Leona skin?
Solar Eclipse Leona. No contest for me. The dark sun thematic, custom voice lines, and ability VFX make it the definitive Leona experience. Lunar Eclipse is a close second if you prefer the silver palette. High Noon is the wildcard pick. All three Legendaries are genuinely top tier so you cant really lose.
What is the cheapest Leona skin?
Defender Leona and Valkyrie Leona at 520 RP each. Both are her original launch skins from 2011. They're basic texture swaps with no new particles or animations. Showing their age hard. Iron Solari at 975 RP is the cheapest skin that still feels worth using in ranked if budget matters.
Does Leona have a Legendary skin?
She has three. Solar Eclipse Leona, Lunar Eclipse Leona, and High Noon Leona. All 1820 RP with full custom VO, new animations, and unique ability effects. Three Legendaries on a support champion is rare. Think only Thresh matches that. Each one feels distinct enough to justify owning all three if you main her.
What skinlines is Leona in?
Leona appears in Eclipse, PROJECT, Pool Party, Mecha Kingdoms, Battle Academia, Culinary Masters (Barbecue), High Noon, Crystalis Motus, and Battle Lion lines among others. Eclipse is her signature line. Fits her solar champion identity perfectly. The rest range from serious tech themes to comedy skins like Barbecue.
Does Leona have chromas?
Yeah several of her skins have chromas. Battle Academia, Debonair, Mecha Kingdoms, and a few others come with chroma packs. The Prestige variants are technically separate skins not chromas. If you want color options, her Epic tier skins usually ship with the most chroma choices. Worth checking on a per-skin basis.
When was Leona's last skin released?
Battle Lion Leona dropped in 2024 alongside a Prestige variant. It's her most recent release. Riot has been pretty consistent with giving Leona at least one skin per year or every other year since 2018. Before Battle Lion it was Crystalis Motus in 2023. She stays in the rotation.
Is Leona worth buying skins for?
If you play support at all, yes. Leona stays meta relevant almost every season because engage supports rarely fall out completely. Spammed her from Gold to Diamond and she's always viable. Her skins are high quality across the board. Even if the meta shifts away temporarily she always comes back. Solid long-term investment for your skin collection.
