Katarina Skins

Katarina has one of the fattest skin catalogs in the game and honestly most of them hit. Been a Kat player since season 4 on and off, climbed to Diamond maining her through some truly unhinged metas, and I've owned nearly every skin she has at one point or another. 19 skins total spanning from 2009 to 2025. Some are genuinely incredible, a few are filler, and there's one Legendary that I think carries the entire roster. Heres the breakdown from someone who's actually played ranked with all of them.

Katarina's Skin Collection: 2009 to 2025

Nineteen skins across sixteen years. That's wild to think about. Mercenary Katarina dropped back in 2009 when the game was basically in beta and the newest addition is Prestige Masque of the Black Rose Katarina in 2025. The range is massive.

Tier breakdown tells an interesting story. Eight Standard skins, eight Epics, one Legendary, and two Mythic Prestige editions. Could be wrong here but I think Riot took a while to give Kat a proper premium skin. The early catalog is mostly cheap recolors and texture swaps from the 520-975 RP range. Not gonna lie, some of those older skins feel like they belong in a museum at this point. Mercenary and High Command are very much products of their era.

The shift happened around 2015-2016 when PROJECT: Katarina dropped. That was the first time Kat got a skin with real VFX work and it showed. From there Riot basically committed to giving her at least one quality skin every year or two. Death Sworn in 2017, Battle Academia in 2019, Blood Moon in 2020, and then the big one - Battle Queen Katarina as a full Legendary in 2020.

Two Prestige skins is notable. Faerie Court Prestige came first, then Masque of the Black Rose Prestige in 2025. Having two Mythic-tier skins puts Kat in a pretty elite club. (Random aside: I remember grinding tokens for the Faerie Court Prestige during a week where my internet kept dropping mid-game. Painful.) The collection basically covers every price point from 520 RP budget picks all the way up to 1820 for Battle Queen. Good spread for mains who want options without breaking the bank.

Best Skins for Katarina

Battle Queen Katarina. Full stop. This is the skin. The only Legendary in her catalog at 1820 RP and it earns every point. New VO, completely reworked ability VFX, unique animations on every dagger pickup. The E resets feel different on this skin in a way thats hard to explain. Spammed this in Diamond for two straight seasons and the recall animation alone is worth it. The chess-piece aesthetic with the crown and the blade work during her ult - chef's kiss. If you're buying one Kat skin ever, this is the one.

PROJECT: Katarina at 1350 RP is the best Epic she has. Fight me on this. The cyberpunk theme fits an assassin perfectly and the Shunpo VFX with the digital trail looks clean in teamfights. Been running this since it came out and even after Battle Queen dropped I still rotate back to PROJECT every few weeks. The sound design on the daggers hitting the ground is crisp. You hear the metallic ping and you know exactly where your E reset is.

Death Sworn Katarina is the sleeper pick. 1350 RP, Halloween-themed, and the ghostly green VFX on her abilities read so well against the Rift. Played maybe 150 games with this one in season 8 and it felt like opponents had a harder time tracking my daggers. Might be placebo. Probably is. Still felt good though.

Prestige Faerie Court Katarina hits different if you like the elegant aesthetic. The white and gold color scheme on her daggers and the sparkle effects during Shunpo are top tier for a Mythic skin. Not sure if it's just me but the auto attack animation feels smoother on this one. Kinda feels like Riot put extra attention into the animation cancels.

Blood Moon rounds out my top five. The mask, the crimson particles, the thematic fit of a blade assassin in the Blood Moon universe. It just works. Locked in this skin for the entire 2021 ranked split and had zero desire to switch. The R channel with the swirling red energy around Kat reads perfectly in a chaotic teamfight where you need your team to peel around your ult.

Skinlines and Themes That Fit Katarina

Kat shows up in a lot of skinlines but not all of them make sense for her. The ones that hit hardest lean into either her assassin identity or give her something completely different that still looks sharp on the Rift.

Battle Queen is probably the best thematic fit outside of her base design. The whole "warrior royalty" angle plays into Kat's Noxian noble background from the lore. PROJECT works because cyberpunk assassin is basically a free space on the bingo card. Death Sworn and Blood Moon both lean into the darker fantasy angle and honestly Kat just looks good in red and black. Big surprise.

The weaker fits are some of the older skinlines. Bilgewater Katarina is fine but it's basically just a pirate costume. Red Card from the Soccer Cup line is a novelty pick that I see maybe once every 200 games in Diamond. Real talk though, Warring Kingdoms Katarina gets overlooked. The Lunar Revel aesthetic with the flowing robes and the jade-colored daggers is beautiful. Released back in 2015 and it still holds up visually which is more than I can say for some of her other older skins.

Snowdown Showdown gave us Slay Belle which is the holiday skin. Silly concept, surprisingly good execution. (Sidebar for Kat one-tricks specifically: you know you lock this in every December, dont even pretend.) Guardian of the Sands turned into Sandstorm Katarina which is one of those skins that just exists. Not bad, not memorable.

Budget vs Premium: Where to Spend on Katarina

If you're climbing ranked and want a skin that feels good without spending much, Warring Kingdoms at 975 RP punches way above its weight class. The VFX are subtle but the model quality is solid for a Standard skin. Slay Belle at 975 is another option if you want something playful.

The 1350 RP bracket is stacked for Kat. PROJECT, Death Sworn, Battle Academia, Blood Moon, High Noon, Faerie Court. Six Epics and honestly four of them are genuinely good. Could be coping but I think Katarina might have the strongest Epic lineup of any assassin in the game. You can pick almost any of these and feel good about the purchase.

Premium means Battle Queen at 1820. One Legendary, no Ultimate. The two Prestige skins are event-locked so you either grinded for them or you didn't. For pure shop purchases, Battle Queen is the ceiling and it's a high one. Worth 1820 if you main Kat. Period. The cheap skins from the 520 range like Mercenary and Bilgewater are basically collector items at this point. Wouldn't recommend them for actual gameplay in ranked - the VFX clarity just isnt there compared to anything from 2016 onward.

Best value overall? PROJECT at 1350. It competes with the Legendary on feel and it's 470 RP cheaper. That's the smart money pick for Kat mains who want one good skin and done.
