Hecarim

Hecarim Skins

12 skins available

Hecarim's skin catalog is one of those collections where nothing hits Legendary but the Epics carry hard enough that you dont really miss it. Twelve skins deep, spanning from 2012 all the way to 2023, and honestly most of them land. Been playing Hecarim on and off since season 3, mostly as a jungle pocket pick when the meta favors him, and I've probably tried every single skin he has at this point. The horse has options. Not all of them are winners, but the hit rate is solid for a champion who could easily get overlooked by Riot's skin team.

Hecarim's Skin Collection Over the Years

Twelve skins across eleven years. That's a pretty steady pace for a jungler who isn't exactly a poster child for League. Hecarim launched in 2012 with Blood Knight Hecarim, which feels like a relic now. Basic recolor energy. The kind of skin Riot was putting out before they figured out what 1350 RP should actually deliver.

The collection breaks down into four Standard tier skins and seven Epics, plus one Mythic in Lancer Zero. No Legendary. Kinda feels like Riot keeps circling back to Hecarim for solid mid-tier releases but never commits to the full package. Seven Epics is a strong lineup though. Most champions would kill for that ratio.

Not gonna lie, the progression from his early skins to the later ones is night and day. Blood Knight and Reaper Hecarim are season 2 artifacts. Functional but forgettable. Then you hit Headless Hecarim from the Trick-or-Treat line and things start picking up. The real quality jump happened around 2014-2015 when Arcade dropped. Everything after that point ranges from good to great.

Could be wrong here but I think Hecarim might have one of the more consistent skin catalogs in the game. No absolute stinkers past 2014. No controversial redesigns. Just steady releases that each bring something different to the table. The 2023 Winterblessed release kept that streak going, even if it wasnt my personal favorite of the batch.

Season 12 and 13 gave him Arcana and Winterblessed back to back. Both Epic. Both solid. Riot clearly sees him as a safe bet for skin sales, and the quality reflects that. Worth noting the price ceiling is 1350 RP across the board for purchasable skins. Your wallet stays relatively intact compared to champions with multiple Legendaries eating 1820 each.

Best Skins for Hecarim

Lancer Zero Hecarim. Full stop. This is the one. Mythic tier, special pricing, and it looks like Hecarim got pulled straight out of a mecha anime. The armor plating on the model is clean, the lance redesign on his Q feels weighty, and the E charge animation with the energy trail behind him is probably the best version of that ability across all his skins. Problem is getting it. Mythic means you're either lucky with Hextech crafting or you were around when it was available. Seen maybe two of these in my ranked games all of last season.

Arcade Hecarim sits right behind it. Been running this one in Diamond since like season 6 on and off and it still holds up. The pixel art VFX on his W heal circle look distinct from anything else in the game. His ult sends a wave of retro ghost horses across the screen. 1350 RP and it delivers more personality than skins twice the price on other champions. The sound design carries hard here - every ability proc sounds like an arcade cabinet.

Elderwood Hecarim is the sleeper pick. Released into the Elderwood line and it transforms him into this ancient forest spirit thing. The green and brown palette works surprisingly well. His Q sweep leaves these leaf particle trails. Real talk though, what sells it is the recall animation. The whole nature spirit vibe fits a charging horse spirit better than you'd expect. 1350 RP, permanent shop.

High Noon Hecarim goes Western and it works. Spectral cowboy horse charging down mid lane. The W circle gets this dusty saloon energy. (Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play with me when I use this skin because he says the ult sound effect is too loud in his headphones.) 1350 RP, standard Epic quality, new particles across all abilities.

Cosmic Charger Hecarim rounds out the top five. The cosmic skin line gives him these galaxy-themed particles on every ability. His E charge leaves a trail of stars. Looks gorgeous in teamfights when everything is going off at once. Not sure if it's just me but the auto attack animation feels slightly smoother on this one compared to base. Probably placebo. Still worth mentioning.

Skinlines and Themes That Fit Hecarim

Hecarim shows up in eight different skinlines and honestly most of them make sense thematically. The horse fantasy translates well. Arcade works because the retro VFX contrast with his aggressive kit. Elderwood works because ancient forest spirit plus spectral horse is just natural. High Noon works because cowboys and horses. Not exactly a stretch there.

The Lancer skinline might be the best thematic fit though. Knight on horseback with a lance. It's literally what Hecarim is, just cranked up to sci-fi levels. The Worldbreaker skin pulls from a more primal direction. Tribal warrior energy. It's fine but doesnt stand out the way Lancer Zero does.

Death Sworn Hecarim from the Death Sworn line (Halloween 2017 I think) goes full spectral undead. Fits his lore perfectly since he's already a shadow of the Shadow Isles. Nightbringer takes him into the cosmic horror space. Arcana gives him tarot card energy. Winterblessed is the holiday seasonal.

Might be overthinking it but I feel like Hecarim benefits from skinlines that lean into either his knight fantasy or his undead fantasy. The ones that try to go cute or lighthearted (Arcade being the exception) tend to land weaker. He's a giant spectral centaur charging at you - the skin needs to match that energy or deliberately subvert it like Arcade does.

Missing from his collection: no PROJECT skin, no Star Guardian (obviously), no Spirit Blossom. Spirit Blossom Hecarim would actually go crazy. The Ionian spirit aesthetic with his ghostly horse form? Riot is leaving money on the table there. Maybe season 15.

Budget vs Premium Picks

Good news for Hecarim mains on a budget. His price ceiling is 1350 RP. No Legendary tax to worry about. The four Standard skins (Blood Knight, Reaper, Headless, and one more in that range) go from 520 to 975 RP. Headless Hecarim at 975 is probably the best value play. Halloween themed, decent model changes, and it shows up in the Legacy vault rotation so you might catch it on sale.

For the 1350 tier you genuinely cant go wrong with any of them. Arcade and Elderwood are my personal recommendations if you're picking just one or two. Arcade for the fun factor, Elderwood for the aesthetic. High Noon if you're into the Western vibe. Cosmic Charger if you want something flashy in teamfights.

Took this into ranked for about 30 games last split - if you're only buying one Hecarim skin, Arcade at 1350 RP gives you the most bang for your buck. New model, full VFX overhaul, unique sound design, and a recall animation that actually makes people stop and watch. Hard to argue against 1350 for that package. The cheap skins are fine for collecting but Arcade is where the real value sits.

Lancer Zero is technically the premium option but you can't just buy it. Mythic crafting only these days. If you roll it from a chest, congrats. Keep it. Don't reroll.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many skins does Hecarim have?

Hecarim has 12 skins total as of 2023. Four Standard tier, seven Epic at 1350 RP each, and one Mythic in Lancer Zero. Solid collection for a jungler. No Legendary yet which is kinda surprising given how long he's been in the game. Been around since 2012 and Riot keeps feeding him consistent Epic releases.

What is the best Hecarim skin?

Lancer Zero if you can get it. Mythic tier, best model and VFX in his catalog. For purchasable skins, Arcade Hecarim at 1350 RP is the one. Full VFX overhaul, unique retro sound design, and it still holds up years later. Been my go-to Hecarim skin since season 6. Elderwood is the close second.

What is the cheapest Hecarim skin?

Blood Knight Hecarim and Reaper Hecarim sit at the bottom of the price range around 750 RP. They're season 2 releases so don't expect much beyond model changes. No new particles, no new sounds. Functional recolors basically. Headless Hecarim at 975 is the sweet spot if you want something cheap but with actual personality.

Does Hecarim have a Legendary skin?

Nope. No Legendary for Hecarim yet. His highest tier is Mythic with Lancer Zero. Feels like an oversight honestly. Twelve skins and none at the 1820 RP tier. A Legendary Hecarim with new voice lines and a full animation overhaul would be an instant buy for most jungle mains. Maybe someday.

What skinlines is Hecarim in?

Eight skinlines total. Bloodstone, Death Sworn, Trick-or-Treat, Arcade Heroes, Elderwood, Worldbreaker, Lancer, and High Noon. He also appears in Arcana, Cosmic, Winterblessed, and Nightbringer lines. Wide spread. Lancer and Arcade fit him best in my experience. The knight and retro themes just click with his kit.

Does Hecarim have chromas?

Several of his Epic skins have chroma sets. Worldbreaker, High Noon, Cosmic Charger, Arcana, and Winterblessed all got chromas. The chroma counts vary but you're looking at 6-8 options per skin usually. Obsidian chromas tend to look cleanest on him because the dark tones match his shadow rider fantasy.

When was Hecarim's last skin released?

Winterblessed Hecarim dropped in 2023. Holiday themed Epic at 1350 RP. Decent skin, ice and snow VFX on his abilities, festive recall animation. Not his best but far from his worst. Before that was Arcana Hecarim also in the Epic tier. Riot's been giving him roughly one skin per year which is a healthy cadence.

Is Hecarim worth buying skins for?

If you play jungle regularly, absolutely. Hecarim's kit translates well to skin VFX because his E charge and R engage are so visually prominent. Good skins make those moments feel way more impactful. Arcade or Elderwood at 1350 RP is where I'd start. You dont need more than two Hecarim skins unless you're collecting.
