What Is the GTA 6 Release Date?

When does GTA 6 come out? November 19, 2026. Rockstar announced that at Take-Two’s earnings call in November 2025. It was May 26 before that. Fall 2025 before that. Zelnick said the extra time was to make the game what Rockstar wanted. GTA 5 and Red Dead 2 both got better for taking longer.

November is no accident. That’s peak holiday window. As of late February 2026, Take-Two reportedly told Sony and Microsoft the date is not moving. Schreier called it the most solid date Rockstar has set. Full marketing starts in summer 2026, and a third trailer should land around April.

You can already wishlist GTA 6 on PS Store and Xbox Store. Pre-orders aren’t live yet, but the PlayStation Store added new GTA 6 title IDs behind the scenes recently. That usually comes a few weeks before pre-orders go up.

GTA 6 Delay History: Three Release Date Changes

It moved three times. Here’s what happened:

• Fall 2025: Original window. Set when Trailer 1 dropped in December 2023. Most people figured September or October 2025.
• May 26, 2026: First delay. Rockstar posted it on X in May 2025 – the same day Trailer 2 came out. They said they needed more time.
• November 19, 2026: Second delay. Take-Two announced it at the November 2025 earnings call. Zelnick said the six months were to get the game where it needed to be.

Rockstar always does this. GTA 5 slipped multiple times before it shipped in 2013. Red Dead 2 moved twice before it launched in 2018. Both turned out to be the best games in their franchises. Reddit is full of frustrated fans but most of them saw this coming and aren’t actually surprised. Former Rockstar dev Mike York said in 2026 that past a certain point, delaying costs you more than shipping. He figured November would hold.

Schreier wrote in January 2026 that GTA 6 was “still not content complete.” He still expected fall though – said it reminded him of how Red Dead 2 pulled together late. Since then nobody credible has raised any new concerns. As of March 2026, the November 19 date looks stable.

No PC date. GTA 5 took 19 months after consoles to reach PC. Red Dead 2 took 13 months. So 2027 or 2028 seems about right. PCGamesN put the window at six to twelve months after console launch – May to November 2027 range.

Rockstar has never released a GTA on PC day one. PC always waits. If you’re PC-only, November 2026 isn’t your date. Steam and Epic haven’t listed it yet.

Premium and collector’s editions could hit $100 – Zelnick has talked about “variable pricing” before. We’ll find out once the summer 2026 marketing gets going.

Standard AAA games went to $70 in 2022 when Sony repriced for PS5. GTA 6 is not going below that. The scale of what Rockstar built here means $70 minimum. The only question is how high premium editions go.

Trailer 1 dropped December 4, 2023 – actually a day early because someone leaked it. First look at Vice City, Leonida, and Lucia. 93 million YouTube views in 24 hours. Broke the record for non-music videos. By late 2025 it was at 268 million views, past the Avengers: Infinity War trailer.

GTA 6 Trailer 2: May 6, 2025

Trailer 2 dropped May 6, 2025 – the same day the first delay was announced. It was a surprise drop. Rockstar didn’t announce it ahead of time. It finally brought in Jason and showed him and Lucia together for the first time. Rockstar confirmed it was shot on a base PS5, roughly half gameplay and half cutscenes – which means what you saw was actually what the game looks like. In 24 hours it pulled over 475 million views across all platforms. That made it the fastest video launch in internet history at that point.

GTA 6 Trailer 3: Expected April 2026

Nothing official yet. Community sources are saying April 2026, ahead of the summer marketing push. Most people expect this one to actually show real gameplay – not just cinematic footage. GTA 6 Story: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval in Vice City

Who Are the Main Characters?

Two playable characters: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Lucia starts fresh out of prison. Her dad taught her to fight before she could walk. Jason is ex-Army, ended up running drugs in the Keys after getting out. Rockstar says his meeting with Lucia might be “the best or worst thing to ever happen to him.”

When a score goes wrong they get pulled into something much bigger across all of Leonida. A criminal conspiracy that stretches across the entire state. You switch between them as you play. Same idea as GTA 5’s three-character setup, but the story stays tighter here – it’s just the two of them throughout. Leaks point to five story chapters. The tone looks darker and more personal than GTA 5.

What Is the GTA 6 Map Like?

GTA 6 is set in Leonida, a fictional take on Florida. Vice City is at the center – basically Miami. Outside it you get the Leonida Keys (think the Florida Keys), Grassrivers (the Everglades), smaller towns, rural roads, and a long coastline. Fans who went through both trailers frame by frame figure the map is about twice the size of GTA 5’s Los Santos. No official figure from Rockstar, but the trailer footage supports that estimate.

Zelnick said in February 2026 that nothing in the world was procedurally generated. Rockstar built it all by hand using an upgraded version of the RAGE engine. His exact words: procedural generation is “not compatible with what makes GTA good.” Every building, every block, every neighborhood was made manually. That’s one of the main reasons GTA 6 has taken this long to develop, and it’s also why the world in those trailers looks so dense and detailed.

GTA 6 Gameplay Details

No full gameplay trailer yet. Here’s what we know from leaks and what Rockstar has officially confirmed:

• Rockstar confirmed Trailer 2 was roughly 50% gameplay, all captured on a base PS5
• Boats are drivable and water travel is more open than in previous games
• Seat and steering wheel adjustments for vehicles
• NPCs that react to players more naturally than in previous games

• A morality system similar to Red Dead 2. Multiple leaks mention it but Rockstar hasn’t confirmed anything

Trailer 3 or a summer showcase will probably be the first real gameplay look.

GTA 6 Online Mode

Nothing confirmed about GTA 6 Online. GTA 5’s online ran for 12 years and made more money than the single-player. An online mode is obviously happening, but Rockstar hasn’t said a word about what’s actually in it. Sony reportedly has a deal with Rockstar, so PS5 might get some exclusive stuff. More should come out once the summer 2026 marketing starts.

GTA 6 Game Pass: Will It Be Available?

Not on Game Pass. No deal announced. GTA 6 is going to print money. Putting it on Game Pass day one would cost Take-Two a fortune. It’s not happening.

A Polish gaming site reported in January 2026 that the physical edition might not land the same day as digital. The reason, reportedly, is street date security.
