First time I locked in Abyssal Nautilus was back in season 3, maybe late season 2. Cant remember exactly. What I do remember is how different the whole vibe felt compared to default Nautilus. The deep sea horror angle hits hard on this one, and for 975 RP it was one of the better pickups I made that year. Clean skin. Not flashy, not trying too hard, just a solid rework of the base model that leans into something darker and more threatening.

What Abyssal Nautilus actually changes

The model swap is where this skin earns its price. Nautilus goes from rusty deep-sea diver to full corrupted ocean creature. The helmet redesign alone is worth it, there’s these bioluminescent elements running through the armor that give him a predatory look. Not sure if it’s just me but the whole silhouette reads more menacing in lane.

You get new VFX on this one which is solid for a Standard tier skin. The Q hook has this darker particle trail, and his W shield carries that deep ocean glow. Played maybe 60 games with this skin last season in Diamond and the E ripple effect specifically looks cleaner than base. Voice lines stay base, no changes there, but honestly Nautilus already has one of the better base VOs in the game so thats fine.

Teamfight readability is good. When you’re engaging with ult in a 5v5 around dragon pit, the darker color scheme actually makes your CC chain easier to track. Had a game last Wednesday where I dove their backline as support Nautilus and my ADC said the skin VFX made it easier to follow up. Could be coping but I’ll take it.

The Forgotten Depths line and release context

Abyssal Nautilus dropped February 14, 2012. Valentine’s Day release for a horror skin. Classic Riot. Alex Konstad nailed the splash, the underwater lighting in that piece is genuinely impressive for a 2012 splash art. (Random aside: I used this splash as my Discord avatar for like two years straight.)

Part of the Forgotten Depths skinline. The line doesnt get much love from Riot these days but the aesthetic holds up. Deep ocean horror before it was trendy. No chromas on this one, which makes sense given the era. Zero chromas means what you see is what you get.

975 RP puts it in Standard territory. Shop has it permanently, no vault nonsense. For Nautilus mains who want something different without dropping Legendary money, this is the practical choice.

Should you pick up Abyssal Nautilus?

Real verdict: if you play Nautilus support or jungle with any regularity, Abyssal Nautilus is worth the 975 RP. Best value Nautilus skin in my opinion. The VFX additions punch above the price point, the model redesign is genuinely creative, and the Forgotten Depths theme ages better than some of his newer options.

Been running this in ranked on and off since season 4. Keep coming back to it over Astronautilus and even Worldbreaker. Might be overthinking it but there’s something about the darker palette that just fits how Nautilus plays. You’re this unstoppable peel machine walking out of fog of war, and Abyssal Nautilus sells that fantasy perfectly. Fair price. Skip only if you already own Conqueror or one of his newer legendaries. For everyone else who mains the big guy, this is the one.
