Academy Ahri

First time I saw Academy Ahri in champ select I thought someone was trolling. Schoolgirl uniform on a nine-tailed fox spirit? Kinda feels like Riot just wanted to check a box. But after locking her in for maybe 30 or 40 games across two seasons, the skin grew on me in ways I wasnt expecting. Not a flashy pick. Not a statement piece. Just a clean, low-key Ahri option that works when you dont want all the particle noise of her newer skins.

What actually changes on Academy Ahri

This is a 750 RP Standard tier skin so keep expectations in check. You get a new model, new textures, and the splash. Thats it. No new VFX on her Q orb, no updated charm particles, base voice lines. The outfit is a navy school blazer with a plaid skirt and knee-high socks. Her tails get a slightly different color treatment, leaning cooler than default Ahri’s warm golds.

Played this in a Diamond ranked game last Wednesday night and honestly the silhouette reads clean in teamfights. Not gonna lie, the lack of visual clutter on her abilities is almost an advantage. You see the base Charm coming through without extra sparkle, which means your lane opponent sees it too, but in chaotic 5v5s around dragon pit the simpler particles blend into the fight better. Could be wrong here but I think I’ve landed more Charms on this skin than on Spirit Blossom just because the wind-up animation feels tighter without all the petals.

Voice stays default. No recall animation changes. Simple change – huge impact on how relaxed the skin feels to play. Sometimes you just want to queue up, cs in mid lane, and not have your screen looking like a fireworks show every time you press Q.

The Academy line and release context

Academy Ahri dropped August 26, 2015. Season 5 era, back when the Academy skinline was Riot’s attempt at a school anime theme. Sixmorevodka Studio nailed the splash, capturing that after-school vibe with Ahri sitting on a desk looking bored. Classic pose for the concept.

The Academy set includes Darius, Ekko, Vladimir and a few others. Ahri fits the theme naturally because she already has that playful personality in her base VO. Not sure if it’s just me but the whole line feels like it was designed for the Eastern market first and Western players just came along for the ride. (Random aside: I used the Academy Ahri splash as my Discord avatar for like six months in 2019 and nobody even recognized which champion it was.)

One chroma exists. The Ahri-versary chroma swaps the color palette to a deep blue and crimson pink combo. It was released for Ahri’s champion anniversary event. Permanent shop availability on the base skin, 750 RP. Sits in the shop year round.

Should you buy Academy Ahri?

Real verdict: if you already own three or four Ahri skins this one probably collects dust. Ahri has so many options now. K/DA, Spirit Blossom, Coven, Arcana. Academy cant compete with any of those on pure visual appeal. But 750 RP feels fair for what you get. Been maining Ahri with this skin on and off since season 9 I think or 10 dont remember, and I keep coming back to it when I want something understated.

Best use case: you’re an Ahri one-trick who rotates skins and wants variety without dropping 1350+ every time. Skip this if you only plan to own one Ahri skin. But for the price? Hard to complain. Three things stood out across all my games with it: the clean model, the readable abilities in lane, and how the tails move during her passive. Worth 750 RP if you main Ahri. Not a must-buy, not a regret either.
