First time I saw Warring Kingdoms Azir load in, I thought Riot finally gave the emperor a skin that matched his fantasy. Not the space thing, not the pharaoh retread. An actual dynasty-level ruler aesthetic. Been running this in Diamond for a few seasons now and honestly its one of the cleanest Azir skins in the pool.

What the skin actually changes

So the big draw here is the VFX overhaul. Every soldier summon comes with this red and gold particle burst that reads way better on the Rift than base Azir’s sandy yellow. Your W soldiers look like actual imperial guards with the Warring Kingdoms armor plating and those ornate headpieces. Looks sick in a teamfight when you have three or four posted up.

Q send command gets this trailing crimson effect. Not gonna lie, it makes the poke game feel more satisfying even though nothing mechanically changes. The E dash has matching particles and the shield pop looks cleaner against dark terrain like dragon pit or baron area specifically.

Ult is where the skin earns its keep. Emperor’s Divide summons this wall of armored warriors with red banners and the knockback effect has way more visual weight. Played maybe 40 games last month where I used R to cut off the backline in choked jungle paths, and the wall just reads better for your team. They actually follow up because they can see it. Could be wrong here but I think the soldiers are slightly more visible than base, at least on my monitor settings.

Recall animation is a new one too. Azir does this imperial gesture thing, very dynasty warrior energy. Short but clean. Voice lines stay base, which is fine because Travis Willingham already cooked on the default VO. No VO refresh needed when the base is that solid.

The Warring Kingdoms line and release context

Warring Kingdoms Azir dropped January 19, 2017. Late season 7 Lunar Revel event. The Lunar Revel: Warring Kingdoms skinline has some absolute bangers in it. Jarvan, Vi, Katarina, Garen. Azir fits the theme naturally because the champion is literally an emperor commanding soldiers. The skin concept basically writes itself.

Pan Chengwei nailed the splash. The composition with Azir on the throne, soldiers flanking, red and gold color palette. It’s my desktop background on my second monitor (random aside: been rotating LoL splashes as wallpapers since season 5 and this one has stayed the longest).

This is a Legacy vault skin so you cant just grab it whenever. Comes around during Lunar Revel events or you need to roll it from Hextech crafting. I got mine from a chest back in season 9 I think, felt like a steal honestly. When it does show up in the shop during events, 1350 RP is the asking price. Standard Epic tier pricing.

No chromas but does it matter

Zero chromas on this one. Normally I’d dock points for that on an Epic skin but the base color scheme already hits. The red and gold is the correct palette for this theme. Not sure what chromas would even add here. Maybe a jade green variant could work but Riot never went back to it.

For Azir mains specifically, the competition is real. Elderwood has the nature vibe, Gravelord goes dark, SKT T1 is the esports flex. But Warring Kingdoms sits in this sweet spot where the theme and champion identity just click. Been spamming Azir in ranked this split and I keep coming back to Warring Kingdoms over the alternatives.

Should you buy Warring Kingdoms Azir

Real verdict: if you play Azir regularly and the Lunar Revel event rolls around, pick this up. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX on every ability, solid recall, a splash that goes hard. The Legacy availability actually makes it feel more special in lobby. Seen maybe 5 of these in my games all season.

Best executed skin in the Warring Kingdoms set alongside Jarvan. The emperor fantasy translates perfectly into the dynasty warrior aesthetic. Might be overthinking it but I think this skin even helps with gameplay clarity because the soldier positioning reads so clean with the red particle contrast. Worth 1350 RP if you main Azir, and worth grabbing from a chest if you even play him occasionally. S-tier Azir cosmetic, locked behind the vault which is the only real downside.
