First time I saw this skin pop up in the collection tab I had to double take. Sunken Shadows Lucian looks like someone dragged him through the deep ocean and he came out the other side looking better for it. Dark, waterlogged, eerie. Not the usual Lucian vibe at all and honestly thats what makes it work.

What Sunken Shadows actually brings to the table

Lucian has a massive skin catalog at this point. Hired Gun, High Noon, Pulsefire, Arcana, the list keeps going. So when a new one drops it needs to justify its existence. Sunken Shadows does that by going full aquatic horror, which is a lane Lucian has never really occupied before.

The color palette goes deep teal and black with these murky undertones that read really well on the Rift. Not gonna lie, the first time I locked this in for a ranked game around midnight last week, the loading screen splash alone had my duo asking what skin that was. The silhouette stays recognizably Lucian but everything feels submerged. Like he’s been fighting something underwater for centuries and just surfaced.

His guns have this barnacle-crusted, corroded look to them. Q still reads clean in lane which matters when you’re trading in bot, and the overall model doesnt sacrifice clarity for aesthetic. Been running this in Diamond and I can confirm the animations feel smooth. No weird hitbox confusion, no visual clutter during teamfights when things get chaotic with five ults popping off at once.

Could be wrong here but I think the recall animation is one of the better subtle touches. Standard voice lines, no new VO, which is expected for this tier. Voice stays default. But the visual package carries enough weight that the base voice doesnt feel like a mismatch. Lucian’s intensity still works when he’s wrapped in deep sea aesthetics.

The Sunken Shadows line and where Lucian fits

The Sunken Shadows skinline is one of those thematic sets that Riot drops and you either immediately get it or you scroll past. Think drowned gods, abyssal creatures, ocean depths that light never reaches. Lucian joining the Sunken Shadows roster makes for an interesting contrast because he’s traditionally a light-themed champion. Purifier, holy guns, all that Demacia-adjacent energy.

Flipping that on its head works. Real talk though, the skinline benefits from having a marksman in it. Gives ADC mains something to latch onto when the line might otherwise skew toward tanks and mages. (Random aside: the Sunken Shadows splash arts collectively would make a sick desktop wallpaper rotation.)

This is a Mythic tier skin. No standard RP price tag in the shop, you’re looking at Mythic Essence to pick this one up. Available now through the Mythic shop rotation. For Lucian mains who’ve been climbing with him since season 9 or 10, adding a Mythic to the collection hits different than just buying another 1350 Epic off the shelf.

No chromas on this one. Zero. Clean single version, take it or leave it. Honestly for a Mythic skin I think thats fine. The base colorway is strong enough that chromas would probably dilute the theme rather than enhance it.

How it stacks up against other Lucian skins

Lucian has what, thirteen skins now? Maybe more. High Noon Lucian is still the gold standard for a lot of people. Pulsefire has its fans. Arcana Lucian slaps. So where does Sunken Shadows land in that lineup?

Kinda feels like it occupies its own niche. If you want cowboy fantasy you pick High Noon. If you want sci-fi you go Pulsefire or Project. Sunken Shadows is for when you want something darker, more atmospheric. Been maining Lucian with this skin for maybe 15 games across the last two weeks and it hasnt gotten old yet. The novelty factor is real because nothing else in his catalog looks remotely similar.

In my Diamond games specifically, I’ve seen maybe two other people running Sunken Shadows Lucian. Low pick rate skin which means you stand out in the loading screen. That matters to some people. Played a game last Tuesday where my support Nami was running Sunken Shadows too and the bot lane had this whole coordinated ocean horror aesthetic going. Enemy Kayn probably thought we were a premade just from the skin coordination alone.

The Mythic tier positioning means this isnt something every Lucian player will have. Exclusivity factor is part of the appeal. Not gonna pretend that doesnt matter because it absolutely does when you’re spamming ranked and want your champion to feel special.

Should you spend Mythic Essence on this?

Verdict time. If Lucian is your ADC pick and you’ve got Mythic Essence sitting around gathering dust, this is a strong use of it. Best aquatic-themed Lucian skin full stop, which sounds obvious since it’s the only one, but the execution earns the Mythic label.

Skip it if you only play Lucian occasionally. Mythic Essence is a limited resource and burning it on a champion you lock in once every 30 games isnt the move. But for Lucian one-tricks who want something nobody else in their elo is running? Top pick for Lucian mains who value uniqueness over raw VFX spectacle.

The Sunken Shadows fantasy is well executed here. Lucian looks menacing, the model quality is clean, and it plays well in actual games without visual noise messing up your cs or your ability to track fights. Might be overthinking it but I think this ages well too. Dark oceanic themes dont go out of style the way some flashier skinlines do. Solid Mythic, no regrets if you commit.
