Dissonance of Pentakill Viego

First time I saw this skin load in on the enemy team, I thought Riot finally gave Viego something that matched his whole tortured king energy but cranked it through a guitar amp. Not gonna lie, Dissonance of Pentakill Viego caught me off guard. The splash alone sold me before I even saw the in-game model, and I ended up locking it in for maybe 30 ranked games straight that September.

What the skin actually brings to the table

So the base Viego already has that ghostly ruined king aesthetic going. This skin takes him in a completely different direction. Full rock star treatment. The outfit is this dark leather-and-metal look with purple accents that glow during ability casts. His blade gets a redesign too, less spectral and more like something you’d see on a metal album cover.

New VFX across the board. His Q feels heavier, the slash particles have this electric purple energy that reads cleanly in teamfights. W charge-up gets a musical distortion effect that I think looks better than base. The E mist changes from the standard Ruination green to this deep violet fog, which honestly helps with lane visibility if you ask me. R possession keeps the core animation but adds rock-themed particles on the reset. New recall animation too, Viego shreds on his blade like a guitar. Standard stuff for Epic tier but well executed.

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Sean Teale’s performance still carries through fine though. Kinda feels like they could have added a voice filter at minimum for 1350 RP, but the VFX make up for it. The auto attack sounds have a slight crunch to them that wasnt in base, almost like amp feedback on each hit. Small detail but I noticed it around my tenth game with the skin, specifically in bot lane while cleaning up a 2v2 skirmish last season.

Pentakill III and the context around this release

Dissonance of Pentakill Viego dropped September 9, 2021. Part of the Pentakill III: The Lost Chapter skinline, which was Riot’s big push to revive the Pentakill universe with a whole album and event. Francis Tneh and West Studio handled the splash, and they cooked. The composition puts Viego center frame with this dark concert stage energy, purple lighting cutting across the piece.

The Pentakill III line was interesting because it pulled in champions who werent part of the original Pentakill roster. Viego fit the vibe naturally though. His whole tragic backstory maps onto rock ballad territory pretty cleanly. (Random aside: the Pentakill III album actually had some bangers, I had it on repeat during my climb through Diamond that fall.)

8 chromas total for this skin. Obsidian is my pick, goes full blackout and the dark particles against the Rift just hit different during late-game teamfights. Sapphire swaps the purple for a cold blue that reads almost icy. Rose Quartz is the wildcard, pink Viego sounds cursed but it actually looks clean in game. The rest fill out the standard gem lineup but those three are the ones worth caring about.

Is 1350 RP the right price?

Real verdict: Dissonance of Pentakill Viego sits in a weird spot. It’s a solid Epic skin. Good VFX, strong thematic, the recall is fun. But Viego has some real competition in his skin lineup now. King Viego exists. EDG Viego exists. Could be wrong here but I think this skin peaks when you’re specifically into the rock fantasy.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The particle work is above average for Epic tier, and the Pentakill III theme gives it personality that some of his other skins lack. Shop has it, permanent availability, no vault nonsense. If you main Viego and you rotate skins, this belongs in the rotation. If you can only own one Viego skin, I’d probably point you toward his Legendary instead.

Been running this in Diamond on and off since it dropped and the skin aged well. The purple VFX dont clash with any map changes Riot’s made since 2021, which is more than I can say for some skins from that era. For Viego one-tricks who want something that feels different from the base Ruination theme without going full prestige or event skin, Pentakill Viego is the answer. Spammed it in ranked around 2 AM one Tuesday, went on a five game win streak. Correlation isnt causation but I’m not changing what works.

Skip it if you dont vibe with the music theme. Worth every RP if you do. Simple as that.
