Not gonna lie, the 2016 World Champions set holds a weird spot in my heart. SKT's third Worlds title, Faker doing Faker things, and Riot finally starting to figure out how to make these team skins feel like actual premium cosmetics instead of glorified recolors. The SKT T1 lineup here covers Olaf, Syndra, Zac, Jhin, Ekko, and Nami. Six skins, all Epic tier, all 1350 RP. And honestly? This might be the set where Worlds skins turned a corner. The 2015 batch was fine but forgettable. This one has personality.

What Sets the 2016 World Champions Skins Apart

Could be wrong here but I think this is the first Worlds set where Riot really nailed the balance between team branding and champion identity. The red and gold SKT palette runs through all six skins, sure. Every roster does that. But the 2016 World Champions line managed to keep each champion looking distinct while still reading as a cohesive squad in the loading screen. Previous years felt like "slap a team logo on base skin, ship it." This batch actually has custom particles, recall animations, and model work that justifies the 1350 RP tag.

The shared visual language is clean. Gold trim on armor pieces, SKT's signature red woven into ability VFX, and that T1 logo showing up in recalls. Not subtle about it. Doesnt need to be. You pick these skins because you want people to know you watched Worlds 2016 or you're repping SKT. The splash arts carry a unified composition style too, each champion posed with confidence, trophy energy radiating off them.

Compare this to something like the 2014 World Champions skins for Samsung White. Those felt rushed. Flat textures, minimal particle work. The 2016 set looks like Riot actually allocated real resources. The VFX on Jhin alone, the way his ult shots trail red and gold, that's a level of care the older Worlds skins never got. Syndra's orbs glow with that SKT crimson. Zac's blobs shimmer gold on impact. Small touches but they add up fast in a teamfight.

Real talk though, there's a limit to what team skins can do thematically. You're locked into the org's colors. You can't go wild with fantasy concepts or alternate universes. So the 2016 World Champions line works within those constraints better than most. It's a celebration skin set, not a creative showcase, and it owns that identity fully.

Best Skins in the 2016 World Champions Set

SKT T1 Jhin. Not even close for me. Been running this in ranked since like season 8 and I still think its one of the cleanest ADC skins in the game at 1350 RP. The auto attack animations feel crisp, the fourth shot has that satisfying red-gold burst, and the ult VFX with the SKT branding is just chef's kiss. Jhin already has some of the best base animations in League and this skin enhances every single one without overdesigning. The recall where he takes a bow? Perfect for the champ.

SKT T1 Syndra comes in second. Might be overthinking it but Syndra's kit translates incredibly well to the Worlds treatment. Her orbs in that deep SKT red look menacing in lane, and the scatter the weak stun has a clean visual read. Played against this skin maybe two weeks ago in Diamond and even from the receiving end the particles look good. That's rare for a 1350.

SKT T1 Ekko is the sleeper pick. Ekko's W zone in the SKT gold is actually easier to track than some of his other skins, which matters when you're trying to land that teamfight stun. His chronobreak trail looks sharp. Underrated skin that I dont see enough people using.

SKT T1 Zac is fun but niche. You gotta be a Zac main to appreciate it. The gold blob particles when he splits from passive are a nice touch. Honestly most people in my games cant even tell which Zac skin is which from a distance, so its more of a personal flex than a visual upgrade.

SKT T1 Nami rounds out the support slot. Solid. Not spectacular. Her wave VFX in red reads well in lane and the bubble has decent clarity. If you main Nami and you watched SKT win Worlds, sure. Otherwise there's better Nami skins out there.

The Champion Roster and Thematic Fit

Six champions, six positions basically. This is Duke's Olaf (top), Blank's Ekko (jungle), Faker's Syndra (mid), Bang's Jhin (ADC), and Wolf's Nami (support). Zac was Bengi's pick. Each player got to choose their champion, which is why the roster feels authentic instead of random. (Sidebar: the fact that Faker picked Syndra over literally anything else tells you how disgusting his Syndra was that tournament.)

Kinda feels like the top lane pick is always the weakest in these sets. Olaf in the SKT uniform works fine thematically, viking dude in red and gold, but it doesn't pop the way Jhin or Syndra does. Olaf's kit is simple. Axe throw, lifesteal, run fast. There's only so much particle work you can do with that at Epic tier. Still a solid skin but it sits at the bottom of this specific lineup for me.

Ekko fits surprisingly well. Time manipulation with that golden clock aesthetic plays nicely with the prestige vibe of a championship skin. Zac is the oddball pick, a green blob in red and gold sounds weird on paper, but Riot made it work. The translucent body with gold accents actually looks premium.

Who's missing? Nobody, really. This set reflects the actual 2016 Worlds roster choices. That's the beauty of championship skins. They're not about thematic fit, they're about the moment. These six champions won Worlds together. Thats the only fit that matters.

Tier and Price Breakdown

All six skins sit at Epic tier. 1350 RP each. No Legendary, no Mythic, no budget options. Straight down the middle. Fair warning, this means you're looking at 8100 RP if you want the complete set, which is roughly $55-60 depending on your RP bundle. There was a launch bundle back in 2017 that saved you some RP but thats long gone.

The consistency works in this line's favor though. Every skin gets custom particles, recall animation, and model changes. No one champion got shafted with a lower tier treatment. Compare that to some other Worlds sets where you get a Legendary for one champ and the rest feel like afterthoughts. Here everyone eats equally. Played a full SKT comp in ARAM once last season with randoms who all happened to own these. Looked clean as hell.

For the 1350 price point, SKT T1 Jhin and SKT T1 Syndra punch above their weight. Ekko is right at expected value. Olaf, Zac, and Nami are standard Epic fare. Nothing wrong with standard when the baseline is decent. Not sure if it's just me but I think 1350 is the sweet spot for Worlds skins. Going Legendary creates too much expectation and going lower means cutting particles. Epic tier for all six was the right call by Riot here.

These skins dropped in 2017, celebrating SKT's 2016 championship run. At the time 1350 felt premium. Nowadays with the price creep on newer skins, 1350 for this level of quality is actually a better deal than it was at launch. The 2016 World Champions set aged well. Not every skinline can say that.

Maybe just my experience but in Diamond ranked I see the Jhin skin pop up maybe once every 30 games or so. Syndra less often since she falls in and out of meta. The rest are genuinely rare. Been playing since season 5 and I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen SKT T1 Zac in a live game. That rarity factor matters if you care about standing out on the Rift.

One thing worth mentioning. These are permanent shop skins. Still available. You dont need to wait for a vault rotation or pray to the Hextech gods. Walk into the shop, buy whichever ones you want, done. Simple. (Random aside: I wish Riot would do a legacy vault rotation for older Worlds skins eventually, the exclusivity would boost their perceived value, but for now they just sit in the store year round.)

Frequently Asked Questions

How many World Champions: 2016 skins are there?

Six total. One for each starting roster member of SKT T1's 2016 Worlds run. Olaf, Syndra, Zac, Jhin, Ekko, and Nami. Each player picked their champion, so the roster reflects actual picks from that tournament run. Been that way since launch in 2017 and Riot hasnt added to it since.

What is the best World Champions: 2016 skin?

SKT T1 Jhin by a mile. The auto attack VFX, the ult particles, the recall animation. Everything about it hits. Syndra is a close second with those red orbs looking menacing in lane. Spammed both in ranked and Jhin just feels better to play with. Personal opinion obviously but most people I've talked to agree.

Which champions have World Champions: 2016 skins?

Olaf for Duke, Ekko for Blank, Syndra for Faker, Jhin for Bang, Nami for Wolf, and Zac for Bengi. Covers all five positions with Zac as the secondary jungle pick. Each player chose their own champion from their Worlds performances which is why the lineup feels authentic to that specific tournament.

Does World Champions: 2016 have Legendary skins?

Nope. All six are Epic tier at 1350 RP. No Legendary, no Ultimate, nothing above Epic. Honestly I think thats fine for a Worlds set. Keeps everyone on equal footing instead of one champion getting special treatment. The particle work at Epic is solid enough that you dont feel cheated.

When did the World Champions: 2016 skinline release?

All six skins dropped in 2017, celebrating SKT T1's championship victory at Worlds 2016. There's always a delay between the tournament and the skin release because Riot needs time to work with the players on champion selection and then actually produce the skins. Standard timeline for Worlds sets.

Are World Champions: 2016 skins worth buying?

Depends on the champion. SKT T1 Jhin is absolutely worth 1350 RP, top-tier Jhin skin even today. Syndra and Ekko are solid pickups if you main them. Olaf, Zac, and Nami are more for collectors or hardcore SKT fans. Not bad skins by any means but those champions have stronger options elsewhere in their skin pools.

Do World Champions: 2016 skins have chromas?

No chromas for any of the six. Worlds skins generally dont get chroma treatment because the whole point is representing the team's actual colors. Changing SKT's red and gold to purple and green would defeat the purpose. Dont expect Riot to add chromas to these retroactively either.

Will Riot make more World Champions: 2016 skins?

No chance. Each Worlds set is locked to that specific year's winning roster. SKT won again in 2016 and the six skins represent that roster permanently. Riot moves forward to the next year's champions. SKT got another set for their 2015 win and their 2017 win too, but those are separate skinlines with different champion picks.
