World Champions: 2012 Skins

TPA skins hold a weird special place for me. Taipei Assassins winning Worlds 2012 was one of those moments where the entire competitive scene shifted, and Riot commemorated it with five 750 RP skins that feel more like souvenirs than premium cosmetics. Not gonna lie, I remember watching that finals run live and losing my mind when they took down Azubu Frost. The skins themselves are modest by today's standards but they carry history. Five champions, all wearing the TPA jersey colors, all locked at 750 RP. Pure nostalgia play.

What Makes the World Champions 2012 Line Stand Out

Kinda feels like these skins exist in their own category. They're not trying to reimagine the champion fantasy or push VFX boundaries. The whole point is "these champions won Worlds." Red and black color scheme across all five, TPA logo worked into the design where it fits, and that's basically it. No new particles, no new voice lines, no recall animations worth writing home about. Standard tier through and through.

What ties them together is the jersey aesthetic. Every champion in this set looks like they're repping their team at an esports event, which in 2013 was still a relatively new concept for League skins. Riot hadnt done many team-based cosmetics before this. The SKT T1 set came later in 2014, so TPA was genuinely the second batch of Worlds skins ever made, right after the Fnatic set from 2012's release for the 2011 champions.

The color palette is clean. Red dominates with black accents, gold trim on some pieces. It reads as "competitive team skin" instantly. Compare this to something like the 2022 or 2023 Worlds sets where champions get full model overhauls, custom VFX, unique recalls. The TPA line is humble. Five texture swaps with team branding. That's the charm though. Simple execution.

(Random aside: I actually think the simplicity aged better than some of the over-designed modern Worlds skins. There's something about a clean jersey recolor that just works.)

The splash arts tell the story better than the in-game models. Each champion posed with the TPA aesthetic, looking like they belong on a team poster. For 750 RP skins from 2013, the splashes hold up surprisingly well. Not S-tier artwork but competent and thematic.

Best World Champions 2012 Skins

Real talk though, picking a "best" skin from five 750 RP texture swaps feels like ranking five flavors of the same chip. But here goes.

TPA Shen is the standout for me. Been running it occasionally in my ranked games when I get autofilled top and the skin just fits Shen's vibe. The red and black works with his ninja aesthetic naturally. Doesnt feel forced. Lock this in and it reads like Shen was always meant to rep a team. Something about the headband with team colors clicking with his design language.

TPA Orianna sits at number two. Orianna's ball gets the TPA treatment and in teamfights it actually looks distinct enough from her base that you notice. Not a massive change but for 750 RP back in season 3, you got what you paid for. I've seen maybe two TPA Oriannas in my Diamond games all of last season. Rare pick these days.

TPA Ezreal is solid but forgettable. The problem with Ezreal skins is that he has like 15 of them now and most are significantly flashier. Could be wrong here but I think most Ez mains wouldn't even consider this over Pulsefire or Battle Academia. Still, the red jacket look is clean if you want something understated.

TPA Mundo is funny. Dr. Mundo running around with a trophy instead of his cleaver, wearing team gear. It captures the celebratory energy of winning Worlds. Not the most practical skin in terms of visual clarity but it has personality. Pre-rework Mundo wore it better honestly.

TPA Nunu sits last for me only because the champion has been reworked since and the skin feels like it belongs to a different era entirely. The new Nunu model with TPA colors works fine but you can tell it wasn't designed for the updated champion from the ground up. Willump in team colors is cute though.

The Champion Roster

Five champions. Shen, Orianna, Ezreal, Dr. Mundo, Nunu and Willump. Each one representing a role from the TPA roster that won Season 2 Worlds. Shen for top lane, Orianna mid, Ezreal ADC, Nunu jungle support hybrid, and Mundo as the flex pick.

Not sure if it's just me but the champion choices aged interestingly. Shen still sees pro play in 2026. Orianna is eternal mid lane. Ezreal will never leave bot. But Nunu jungle and Mundo top feel like relics of a different meta entirely. Season 2 comps hit different.

The thematic fit varies. Shen in team colors makes immediate sense because he's already wearing a combat outfit. Orianna works because her sleek design takes recolors well. Ezreal is Ezreal, looks good in anything. Mundo and Nunu feel slightly more awkward in jerseys because their base designs are so far from "esports athlete" but thats part of the fun. A giant yeti and a literal madman in team gear. Comedy gold.

Who would I add if Riot expanded this line? Nobody. The whole point is commemorating a specific team's specific roster. You don't add champions to a historical set. It's locked in time, season 2 forever. That's what makes Worlds skins different from every other skinline. They're time capsules.

Tier and Pricing Breakdown

All five skins sit at 750 RP. All Standard tier. No Legendary carry here, no Epic upgrades, no chromas. This was 2013 and 750 RP meant "new model textures, maybe a new weapon prop, call it a day." The entire set costs less than a single modern Legendary skin. Wild to think about.

For what you're paying, you get team colors and a piece of esports history. No new VFX. No new audio. Voice lines stay base across the board. The value proposition in 2026 is purely nostalgic. If you watched TPA win Worlds live back in October 2012 at the USC Galen Center, these skins mean something. If you started playing in season 10, they're just cheap recolors.

Might be overthinking it but I think the flat pricing across all five is actually respectful. Riot didn't try to milk Worlds nostalgia with inflated prices. 750 RP each, take it or leave it. Fair deal. Been playing since season 3 myself and I grabbed the Shen skin back when it dropped in 2013. Still sits in my collection. Zero regrets at that price point.

The whole set runs 3750 RP if you want all five. That's less than two modern Legendaries. For a complete esports commemorative collection thats honestly a steal, even if the skins themselves are basic by current standards. Standard tier doing standard tier things.
