Star Guardian Season 1 Skins

All 7 skins in the Star Guardian Season 1 skinline. Browse splash art, chromas, and detailed reviews for every Star Guardian Season 1 skin in League of Legends.

Not gonna lie, Star Guardian Season 1 holds a weird spot in my heart. It dropped back in 2015 when Riot was still figuring out what a cohesive skinline even meant, and somehow they nailed the magical girl aesthetic on the first try. Five champions, seven skins total counting the Pajama Guardian variants, and one Legendary that still holds up years later. The pastel VFX, the sparkle particles, the whole Sailor Moon energy. Corny? Sure. But lock any of these into a ranked game and tell me the animations dont feel clean. You can't.

What Sets Star Guardian Season 1 Apart

The visual signature here is obvious the second you see any of these skins on the Rift. Pastel color palettes, star-shaped particles on abilities, and those familiars. Every Star Guardian champion gets a little companion creature floating near them, and honestly thats one of the details that sold the whole fantasy for me. Lux has her fox-looking familiar, Jinx gets Kuro and Shiro. Small touch. Huge payoff in-game.

Could be wrong here but I think Star Guardian Season 1 was Riot's first real attempt at building lore around a skinline. Not just slapping a theme onto champions and calling it a day. There's an actual narrative thread connecting Lux as the wide-eyed leader, Jinx as the rebellious wildcard, Janna as the mentor figure. That kind of storytelling in skins wasnt really a thing before 2015. Maybe Arcade came close but not like this.

The shared VFX language ties everything together. Star bursts on ability hits. Pastel trails on movement. Recall animations that actually tell a mini story instead of just being a flashy loop. Compare this to something like the Arclight line where skins share a gold palette but feel disconnected from each other. Star Guardian Season 1 reads like a team. Lock in all five in a flex queue game and the loading screen looks coordinated. Did this with my duo and three randoms last March and one of them actually switched to their Star Guardian skin to match. Random wholesome moment at 11 PM on a Tuesday.

Color-wise the first season leans heavy into pinks, light blues, and purples. Season 2 went darker. Season 3 even more so. But this original batch? Pure magical girl energy. No edge. No corruption arc. Just sparkles and determination. Kinda feels like Riot was less afraid of being earnest back then.

Best Star Guardian Season 1 Skins

Star Guardian Jinx. Full stop. The only Legendary in the batch at 1820 RP and she earns every point of it. New VO, completely reworked animations, Kuro and Shiro replacing Pow-Pow and Fishbones. Her rocket launcher literally transforms between a white and black familiar. Been spamming this in Diamond since season 8 and I still notice new details. The way her ult rocket trails stars across the map. The minigun spin-up sparkle effect. Not sure if it's just me but her auto attack animations feel smoother than base Jinx, like there's a subtle timing difference that makes cs-ing easier.

(Random sidebar: I genuinely think Star Guardian Jinx has the best recall animation of any skin released before 2020. She sits down with her familiars and reads. Thats it. No flashy explosion. No meme. Just a quiet moment. Hits different.)

Star Guardian Janna comes second for me. Epic tier, 1350 RP. The staff redesign is gorgeous and her shield VFX got this protective star barrier look that reads cleanly in teamfights. Played maybe 150 games of Janna with this skin across two seasons. The tornado particles alone justify the price. Bright enough to track but not so noisy that your ADC loses focus.

Star Guardian Poppy surprised me. Real talk though, Poppy doesn't seem like an obvious pick for a magical girl line. Hammer-wielding yordle in a skirt? Shouldn't work. Works perfectly. Her ult sends enemies flying with a burst of stars and her passive shield throw leaves a star trail. The splash art captures this determined underdog energy that fits Poppy's character better than most of her other skins.

Star Guardian Lux is the poster child of the line. Literally the face of the marketing. Solid skin, good VFX on the ult especially. But honestly? I think she gets slightly outshined by Janna and Poppy in terms of how much the Star Guardian theme adds to the base kit. Lux already has sparkly light magic. Star Guardian Lux is sparkly light magic but pink. Still good. Just less of a transformation.

Pajama Guardian Lux is a variant worth mentioning. Same VFX as base Star Guardian Lux but in a onesie. Cute if you're into that. 1350 RP though for what is essentially a costume swap feels steep. Pajama Guardian Lulu exists too in the same situation. Could be coping but I think the Pajama variants were Riot testing how far they could stretch a skinline before people pushed back.

The Champion Roster

Five champions. Lux, Jinx, Janna, Poppy, Lulu. Tight roster. Every pick feels intentional.

Lux as team leader makes total sense. Light-based mage, optimistic voice lines, the protagonist archetype. Jinx as the rebel who doesn't play by the rules. Classic anime trope and it works because Jinx's base personality already leans chaotic. Janna fills the wise protector role. Might be overthinking it but her wind magic translating to star magic feels like the smoothest thematic crossover in the whole line.

Poppy as the determined warrior who doesn't realize she's the chosen one. Literally her base lore. Riot just mapped it onto a magical girl framework. Smart writing. Lulu rounds out the team as the quirky support with Pix getting a Star Guardian makeover. Pix becomes this little star creature and honestly its one of the better familiar designs across all four seasons.

Who's missing? Been thinking about this since like season 10. Sona would have been perfect for Season 1. Musical magic, support role, the aesthetic fits. Soraka too. Maybe Riot was saving them for later seasons but the original five feel slightly support-heavy. Three supports (Janna, Lulu, Lux can flex), one ADC, one top laner. No jungler. No mid assassin. That came later with Ahri and Syndra in Season 2.

The five champions cover enough variety that you can actually run a semi-viable comp. Lux mid, Jinx ADC, Janna or Lulu support, Poppy top. Need a jungler though. Always need a jungler. (My friend group literally argued about this for an hour in Discord last winter. We settled on Lulu jungle which went exactly as well as you'd expect in a Gold flex game.)

Tier Breakdown and Pricing

Six Epics. One Legendary. Thats the lineup.

Every Epic sits at 1350 RP which is standard. Star Guardian Jinx at 1820 RP as the Legendary anchor. No Mythics, no Ultimates, no budget 975 options. Clean and simple. The price range across the whole Season 1 collection runs 1350 to 1820 RP.

The Epics carry their weight here. New models, new VFX, new recall animations, new sound effects. Standard 1350 package but executed well. No new voice lines on the Epics though. Voice stays default for Janna, Poppy, Lux, and Lulu. Only Jinx gets the full VO treatment as a Legendary.

Fair warning, the Pajama Guardian variants are technically separate skins at 1350 each. So if you want both Star Guardian Lux AND Pajama Guardian Lux you're paying 2700 RP for the same champion. Riot did offer a discount if you owned the original but I dont remember the exact amount. Something like 742 RP? Felt like Riot was testing the variant skin concept before committing to it harder with stuff like Prestige editions.

For value per RP spent, Star Guardian Jinx is the clear winner. Legendary pricing with Legendary-quality execution. Among the Epics, Star Guardian Janna and Star Guardian Poppy give you the most visual transformation from their base skins. Lulu is solid but less dramatic of a change since she's already whimsical by default.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Star Guardian Season 1 skins are there?

Seven skins total across five champions. Lux, Jinx, Janna, Poppy, and Lulu each got a Star Guardian skin, plus Lux and Lulu received Pajama Guardian variants in 2018. The Pajama versions share VFX with the originals but swap the outfit for a onesie. Kinda niche but collectors want them all.

What is the best Star Guardian Season 1 skin?

Star Guardian Jinx by a mile. Only Legendary in the batch, comes with new voice lines, completely reworked animations, and two familiars that transform between her weapons. Been my go-to Jinx skin for years. Among the Epics, Star Guardian Janna and Poppy stand out for how much the theme transforms their base kits.

Which champions have Star Guardian Season 1 skins?

Five champions: Lux, Jinx, Janna, Poppy, and Lulu. The roster leans heavily toward supports and ranged champions. Poppy is the only melee pick. Jinx is the only ADC. Feels like Riot picked for thematic fit over role diversity, which honestly worked out for the magical girl aesthetic they were going for.

Does Star Guardian Season 1 have Legendary skins?

One Legendary: Star Guardian Jinx at 1820 RP. She gets the full treatment with new voice lines, reworked animations, unique familiars Kuro and Shiro, and a completely different feel from base Jinx. The other six skins in Season 1 are all Epic tier at 1350 RP. Jinx carries the premium tier alone here.

When did the Star Guardian Season 1 skinline release?

Star Guardian Lux dropped first in 2015 as a standalone release. The team expansion with Jinx, Janna, Poppy, and Lulu came in 2016. Pajama Guardian variants for Lux and Lulu followed in 2018. So Season 1 rolled out across three years, which is wild when you think about it. Most skinlines now dump everything in one patch.

Are Star Guardian Season 1 skins worth buying?

If you main any of the five champions, yes. Star Guardian Jinx is worth 1820 RP for mains and the Epics are solid 1350 purchases with clean VFX and good recall animations. Pajama Guardian variants are more situational. Skip those unless you really want the onesie look. The original Star Guardian versions are the better value overall.

Do Star Guardian Season 1 skins have chromas?

Some of them do. Not all Season 1 skins launched with chromas since the chroma system was still relatively new back in 2015-2016. Check individual skin pages for exact chroma counts and color options. The Pajama Guardian variants from 2018 were more likely to ship with chromas since Riot had standardized the system by then.

Will Riot make more Star Guardian Season 1 skins?

Unlikely for Season 1 specifically. Riot moved on to Season 2, 3, and 4 with new champion rosters. The Star Guardian universe keeps expanding but the original five-champion team seems complete. Could see prestige or variant editions eventually but new additions would probably fall under a later season. The Season 1 roster feels closed at this point.
